And you realise what will happen if they find out. They can access your medical records, after all.

I know somebody who wasn't allowed to join the army because they had a suicidal episode of attention seeking when they were 15 and it was in their medical records. They didn't tell anybody but they accessed their records and that was it for them, they're banned from the army.

A soldier kills themselves every 18 hours statistically; they don't want mentally unstable people.

You show ADD qualities here all the time, it's not hard to see when we're waiting for a post for ages from you and you make excuses only to post a tiny bit that would had taken 5 minutes. You realise by law you HAVE to submit ALL medical records relating to it that have been within the past 3 years under the Disability Act, right?

Mast3r, they'll find out you took them one way or another. And believe me, if you lie it'll only end up with a dishonorable discharge. I had people in my division sent home on the first and second day for lying about it. They're not going to let you stay in for that, I'm sorry to say. And if you get a Dishonorable then you can't claim veteran status or anything like that.

And I've had no medical records pertaining to ADD since the age of 15, four years ago. I've not taken medication for it since I moved in with my father four years ago. Yes, it still shows, but I don't take medication for it anymore.

If I couldn't get away with it, would my teacher, who used to be a recruiter himself, have said I could?

Someone was DQ'd from being a part of the military in any division because they took meds for it 10 years ago, they didn't even have ADHD but because they had meds for it, that was all that was needed.

Like I already said; recruiters say anything to get young people to join. It's not the recruiter's decision either, it goes higher than that. Like Vena said; you'll be heading for a dishonourable discharge once they're given your medical records which is mandatory.

He went through MEPS, it was also because he never had ADHD and was given pills because his mother couldn't be bothered with him (and beat him when he was little), it's why I removed the link since I knew you wouldn't read those parts.

His situation was different, he had to take a full-blown medical examination under intensive conditions to prove he didn't have ADHD. Lying about the fact and keeping it secret would earn you a DQ and it will be a dishonourable one.

You're trying to avoid the MEPS which is required for anyone who has had a medical condition in the past and may still have it.

And did you consider I might have changed my mind after reading that thread? I'm going to talk to my teacher again tomorrow before I call the recruiter..

And I read the entirety of that thread, actually.

Great, then have it back and take this one considering it's relevant.

I'll be making damn sure I know what's needed before I talk to that recruiter. Since there's a chance that, despite being forced onto that medication at one point, I can get in after telling them about it, I'll likely take it.

EDIT: After browsing that About site, I've decided I'm not even going to have that discussion with that teacher. I've been seeing examples of recruiters recommending withholding information and the troop suffering for heeding that advice, so I'm not taking that chance. Thank you, Mog. You probably just saved my career by providing that link.

Recruiters are used car salesman, they have a quota to fill anyway they can. They all say they're honest, but it's a lie.

I am no genius, but I'm not the average smuck walking into the army office. When my recruiter was talking to me, I could easily tell when he was lying to me.

Caboose couldn't have put it better. If I could even count the number of lies my recruiter told me when I enlisted...

Not all of it is a total lie, but they're going to glamor it up. It's exactly as Boose said, they're filling a quota. More people they get, the better they look. End of the day you're a number and they'll say what they got to in order to make you enlist. Not bashing them, it's their job, but just realize that what you're being told is likely a load of (not nice word here).

Well, Mog's link did help out a lot, and I'm still going to try and get in. If I don't, I've still got a few options I can pursue that don't necessarily require college.

So you're willing to become a statistic for somebody else's paycheck? A meatshield for the government? I'd understand if you were Swedish where boys have to go to the army without choice (not girls though, pretty backwards), but whatever.

Look, my decision's already made. I'm not changing my mind. I'm going to try at the very least, but my plans for the future aren't so tied up with the military that I'll be set back too much if that falls flat. It's not like I've only made one plan.
