This is an interest check for a character driven story set in a city that has recently been changed forever.

The OOC can be found Here

Awesome! Ill keep editing and adding information. I just wanted to test the waters first.

Feel free to throw out any ideas you might have! I want to collaborate on all the aspects of the game as a group.

Quick question: So this is essentially a completely open RP where you can pretty much be anything you want, as long as it's not too overpowered and fits with the time frame?

I'm just wondering due to the extent of powers and such.

Yes, you can basically go through whatever motivation for your character that you would like. You could just be a highly trained assassin looking to exterminate all of the new 'supers' or vigilante cop that just found out he has super strength.

I just have the Paradigm Stone as a plot point that any character can pursue for any reason. A scientist could try to experiment on the radiation it gives off, someone else might want to use it as a magical portal to an Asgard-like world and another might just want it to take over the mob. Someone else could just want to destroy the gem and keep others from having it.

But, again, the stone isn't even a necessary point at all.

Cool! I pretty much have my idea for a character and his plot, it just needs some finishing touches. I hope this gets more interest! I'm looking forward to the whole teamwork/rivalry/interconnecting storylines thing lol, it seems like it has the potential for lots of fun! ^_^

Cool! This sounds great! I already have a few ideas flying around in my mind about my character.

I really like the images on the intro post btw, they're cool.

Now all we need is a bit more interest, would you like me to check whether anyone I know would be interested?

Absolutely, the more, the merrier! I wasnt sure if i should have posted this as a high casual or advanced but we'll see how many more we can get interested.

And thanks, I like to use images and hopefully a map to help get the mood and theme across.

Sorry about the delay, but I promise to get the character sheet up ASAP.

Dare I say that you have my attention. Looks like quite the ambitious project you have here, mind if I'm a part of it?

I particularly enjoy open sandboxes, and have some ideas for possible locations... map help is beyond me, sorry (I'm a general kind of guy, specifics send my head spinning). If you're looking for a name, I can suggest those, but it would depend on how the city would end up lookin'. Big name city with tall buildings like New York? Something that pops and sounds fancy, like Verelle, Iambic City, or St. Navarro. Justatown? Something plain, like Saxton or Southwick or Bricksvale. Industrious boom town choked with smokestacks? Make it sound like it relates in a way like Eastport, Marquee, or Central Junction. Dilapidated hellhole? Rotterdale, Blackwood, Crampton, or something shady like that.

Cities I can name all day. Feel free to steal what you want from the list or ask me for something else. I can also give very general help with the map, such as interesting locales and around where they should be in relation to each other, maybe in what cardinal direction, but nothing with drawing tools.

YAAAAAY! We have more interest!

I may be able to cook up a map, but I promise nothing spectacular... I shall get to work on it as soon as I can. Depending on what type of city you want.

I'll help out too with whatever I can. I don't have the ability to create maps and such but I can toss ideas around lol. I like the idea of the setting being something like NYC with skyscrapers and tall buildings but with different boroughs to add some variety. Umm...some key locations could be like a downtown area/times square section, every city needs a nice park, don't forget the seamy underbelly part of town, maybe a beach or amusement park, an advanced subway or sewage system, a military base could be interesting, an airport, a bridge or tunnel that connects the city with the rest of the world, umm...a bunny ranch? lol How do you feel about the city being one large central locations, with like different sections mentioned above? It just seems like it’ll be easier for people to interact if they’re normally within a reasonable radius of one another?

Also I have a question about how the points are distributed. It seems like everyone is able to make up their own categories and pour the appropriate amount of points into them. Do you think it would be easier to just have a core set of abilities and let everyone set up their characters accordingly? I mean people could still make whatever super powered character they want but as far as skills sets to compare characters abilities I was thinking something like this:

Strength
Strength is your raw physical power, can you overturn an SUV? It's also how much damage it takes to bring you down.

Dexterity
This is your speed and agility. At top rank this person is going to be pacing a cheetah in a dead sprint and doing half a dozen somersaults off walls before landing unharmed.

Intelligence
This one is tricky, because obviously intelligence is going to be drawn heavily from the the brain of the player, not their character. But how about we say it's a prerequisite for creating/using advanced technology. Perhaps it could possibly be used for logical explanations. Ex: “Well if I put a lever under here and…” or “I know that this plant would make an excellent, flavorless poison/antidote.”

Finesse
This is your accuracy, your reaction speed and your perception. If you want to be a weapons or combat specialist this is a must. This would be a stat that helps you land a hit on the speedster, if his dex is much higher than yours, or precision tag a chink in someone’s armor.

Willpower
This is your characters resolve. Do they refuse to go down? It's also their endurance; if your opponent is a better fighter than you, you can try to drag the fight out and tire them out. It will help you resist telepathy, poisons and drugs. A character with a high will power will recover from injuries insanely quickly.

I like the sound of that idea for the skills, but I think we can combine both ideas, and have 15 different areas, and 15 points. So if you want to, you can put one point in each and be the average Joe, or you can mix things up, but you have to sacrifice something, meaning no one will be too overpowered.

Also, the map is slowly going underway.

I love all the input ^_^

As far as a compressed list of skills to pick from- I appreciate the effort, but a big reason I wanted to plan the game with a wide option of skills is so we can get a more specific idea of their abilities. I understand the classic set of Strength/Will/Dex from most games, but it seemed to keep people from fine tuning their characters in my own opinion. Maybe if I go a bit more in depth, it could help.

I like the idea of also keeping the list to fifteen skills as well. This is a brief list of skills I thought up when I first made the game:

Brawl: 1- One scrappy fighter 2- Boxing or hand to hand training 3- Deadly assassin fists
Melee: 3- Can cut a bullet in midair
Strength: 1- Pro Body Builder 2- Able to toss a car a bit Strength 3- Hulk Smash
Speed: 1-Higher than Olympic speed, 3- Near The Flash or Quicksilver
Psionic: Fire-bending, Telekinesis, Ice-Man,
Psychic: Telepathy, Empathy, Illusions, Animal Control, Precognition, Super Reflexes
Endurance: 1
Dexterity:
Science: Your ability to create and augment scientific equipment both in complexity and offensive/defensive capability.
Magic: Alternate-universe granted abilities
Agility:
Flight:
Stealth: 1- Slip into the shadows 2-Dark Knight 3- Invisibility
Manipulation: The more manipulation you have, the more henchmen you have. One is equal to six consistent goons at your disposal on a mission or in a quick getaway. Two is several small gangs and informants. Three is corporation or similar under your control.
Security: Your ability to hack into devices, pick locks,
Wealth:
Hideout: 3- Batcave, Stark Tower
Transportation: 0- Hoofing it, 1- Average vehicle, 2- Sports car, motorcycle 3: Batmobile, Goblin Glider

I was trying to work on my own profile and found that it was hard to create his power profile with even a range of sixteen skills. This is what it would be with an open choice of skills:

Magnetic Field Manipulation: 3
Force Field Creation: 3
Flight: 3
Hideout: 1
Endurance: 2
Wealth: 1
Brawl: 1
Strength: 1

Older Lady with Cash:

Wealth: 3
Hideout: 3
Manipulation: 3
Transportation: 2 (A bullet-proof limousine)
Science: 1
Political/Social Fame: 2
Body Guard Robot: 1

I just figure with an open discussion between everyone involved in the game, every new character can have equal and interesting skill sets that can be very diverse.
