Well, I'm good with all that. I am just trying to figure out what caused someone raised by Joseph to turn into such a brat. Then again, he was always limited by what the "actual" parents wanted, and probably often blamed when the kids weren't perfect, for both generations. I'm thinking some alcoholism, coupled in with mental disorders and eventual insanity.

I also now have this really lovely vision of Joseph often putting himself in the "line of fire" to protect the children and the other slaves. He would probably write the schedules so that he was the only one who had any real contact with Mr. Vandros. Even though as a vampire he was stronger and could have fought back, he wouldn't have, except when he was going to attack Alexi and Mois. Of course, that would not have always prevented things, because he could have been just ordered to stand aside or something. But if we go with all of that, it certainly strengthens the relationships Joseph has with both of them.

Also, Joseph was "domesticated" looong before Alexi took over. I would say he has been for about 400 years. If he resisted their father in any way, it would have been to protect them and the slaves.

I'm good with the mental disorder, and the alcoholism would explain why Mois and Alexi don't drink much. I like yer vision, and I agree, it would bring him closer to them, and I like that.

Not sure if and how that will come up in the story, but it is pretty sweet. Joseph is awesome. :-P Such a tortured soul though. I just want to hug him and tell him that the universe forgives him and that over five centuries of being a good person is enough punishment and penance for about 40-50 years of being an evil jerk.

Neither of them would accept it. :-P Joseph can't accept love because he just doesn't think that's something he deserves. And Erik is too angry at Alexi, and is having trouble keeping him separate from a lovely piece of steak at the moment...

We shall see. I'd love to see him try... especially with Erik. I'm sure his blood is very very tasty. :-P

I'll have a post for you sometime tonight probably. Not sure if you'll be awake for it. I finished Joseph's part, but I've still got to practice piano and maybe sleep.

I made a decision there about the potion administration, and I kinda wanna keep it as I stated it. We could have it that there are baseless rumors of the procedure killing the intended slave, but I want Alexi to be telling the truth there. . . .

Alright... maybe no one has died from it for the same reason people haven't died from lack of sleep. Because the body and mind will do anything to get the drug. And Vampires can and have died from lack of blood to feed on, but the reason they don't is that their "feral minds" will ultimately take the potion rather than just shut down.

There is a significant portion of people who committed suicide though, and it's happened enough that it's something that slave owners are told to take precautions against.

Is that fair?

Foolish slavers is acceptable, however in those cases it is the slaver's stupidity and not the procedure itself that brings about the death. However, I do not see Erik splitting hairs at this point. . .

Yeah, this way they can both be "right."

Also, keep in mind that if a vampire were completely deprived of blood, with absolutely no way to get it, like if Erik were chained up without the potion, then they would actually die. I want the lack of blood to be ultimately fatal for them.

So between suicides and the fact that if not given the potion it would be fatal, I can see why Erik thinks the way he does.

A more accurate description would be that, "this procedure, if performed correctly, has never been fatal."

Sorry to split hairs about it, I just want to be sure we are on the same page.

Oki, makes sense. So we're going with the non immortal vampires and more animal based ones, got it!

They're immortal if nothing ever kills them... as in, if they have the blood they need and they don't get killed some other way.

On a related note, they can heal quickly but they would still die from say, a fatal gunshot wound. They are more weak to silver bullets, but you dont need to stake them in the heart or whatever.

Yay for silver allergies. . . .I personally rebel against that one, but I'm a bit of an old fashioned guy :P When I was growing up, silver was purly a werewolf thing :P But, if this ish the vampire type you want, go for it :P

I've read silver as lycanthropes and werevolves. I'm just trying to give them some realistic weaknesses to counter the immortality.

Like I said, have at it :P You play the vampire characters, and I usually like leaving the one playing the race freedom to difine a lot of it. There are only a few things about certain races that I insist upon, so, whatever makes you happy :P

What exactly is stopping Erik from strangling himself on his chains, especially when Alexi is asleep and Joseph is out of the room?

Also, I might want to work with you on some of the history of this alternate world we've made up. I kind of already decided that technological advancement happened the same way. But what about the various wars? Most notably, what about human on human slavery? Was there a need to enslave other humans in the last 500 years after magicals were available as free labor?

I'm asking because I want to use a Frederick Douglas quote, but I need to know how it would have originated in this world.

Your wish to continue this RP? I can think of several things that Alexi could have in place for such events, but if you really want him to kill himself, I can't stop you.

I remember having this discussion before, this is earth, basically, long in the future after a very devastating war with the magicals which lead to a fall in technological advancement for quite some time, the humans having to recover, and a lot of the tech focusing on the enslavement of the magicals for well over 50 years I'd say. Human human slavery happened much the same way it did on earth, but I'd place the war with the magicals, say. . .Only about 80 years after humans stopped enslaving one another. And no, while I can see humans having indentured servants, if you really want them, I don't think we should have any human slavery after the magicals war. As for the quote, go ahead. *Shrug* I don't see why you can't use it. . . .

Of course I want to continue this RP! When he realizes there is zero chance of him escaping or withstanding the torture until he dies rather than taking the potion, that's going to be his next option though. I don't want him to die, but I can't change the fact that he will want to. He will have to attempt something and (preferably) be unsuccessful. That's why I asked what methods would be used to stop him.

Hmm, they have to have recovered quickly then, because I placed the war with the magicals around the Renaissance period, and I already had the Industrial Revolution happening around the same time. I also put this with a roughly modern level of technology. Joseph has mentioned email and used online shopping several times now. But that all still works.

Alright, well, that kind of makes people like Frederick Douglass not exist, since American slavery was in the 1700s-1800s, which is supposedly post-war. But I can use it and attribute it to a magical then. It is supposed to be an alternate reality after all.
