Anyway, I've got a couple character concepts in mind. I'll make 'em publicly known to some degree for now.

The first is a general who's very loyal to his ruler, probably hailing from either Thule or the Iron Kingdoms. He'll be a famous fellow if I use him - very much the sort that's known for his honor, honesty, and also abrasiveness... and for winning wars.

Alternatively, I MAY remake Safiyya, my old character - but only if her niche still needs to be filled, and only if the niche my first choice would fill gets taken.

That works pretty much perfectly. Obviously we can work out the specifics once more setting information is available in the OOC, but I can help with details on a case-by-case basis.

Great. Looking forward to playing. Per your notes elsewhere in the thread I'll hold off on developing explicit connection to other characters.

I would not rely so heavily on pre-established concepts, particularly those from other games. I would be wary as well of the language and cultural barriers that may result from having such an exotic character. I won't outright veto a character from the Jade Kingdoms (a concept most new players present most likely do not yet know of), but I'm hesitant. There is a distinct focus on the Iron Kingdoms in this story, mostly because someone from outside of them would not have been particularly affected by the Years of Dusk, and for other, plot-related reasons.

Fair enough. I could easily translate something from Legend of the five Rings into our use here. But your desire to keep the characters from the Iron Kingdoms is what I was looking for. I'll stick with the Hyperborean.

I'll have to put some thought into this. But since my character will be in his 50s, he would have been born close to the beginning of the Age of Dawn. I would prefer for him to be born in the North, but then either his family moved to the Borea, or he himself moved there. He would possess no magic, and be more of a barbarian than a cultured leader of men. Kind of like that avatar I have on display.

Very interested, I would love to make a thief character, perhaps an apprentice remaining remember of thieves guild that once plagued the Iron Kingdoms. Perhaps even give him a gift of magic as he one few patrons to gods of deceit and trickery. I'm unsure on all the detail but this sounds amazing and I'd love a chance to join.

This is all perfectly workable. His being an older character actually works to the benefit of the lore, as throughout the Age of Dawn, most Hyperboreans have taken to worshiping what are called by many, "the Dark Gods of the North." I would imagine that your character shies away from the worship of such malevolent entities.

@Dead Cruiser, huh I was more interested in a magical character than I was a swordsman. If typical magic as we know it- ie fireballs, healing spells, typical elemental stuff- is too 'gamey', what would you describe as examples of magic?

and while I do intend on playing a human, are there any non-human races available to players?

Magic is a very abstract thing; it is the power of the Gods, wielded by the clumsy hands of mortals. It is most usually dangerous and unreliable, and practitioners of it are rightfully distrusted by the majority of the populace.

As for examples, I can cite some from the original game. My character, Arkos, was able to see the influence of fate and destiny in varying forms, often reeling with visions of the future that never was, and the past that never could be. Some Hyperborean shamans wreaked havoc in another player character's encampment by channeling infernal energies through themselves, which coalesced into the forms of vicious demons. A side character, Ryan, was narrowly saved from being burned at the stake after her latent power over fire burned down her home and killed her family; the result of foolishly trusting a malign entity that promised to help her control the magic.

Hopefully this is illuminating.

For the latter question, that's a solid no. There are scarcely any "races" other than humans in this setting, and each player character must be human for plot reasons.

@Dead Cruiser also, are there any rough cultural equivalents for the different regions of the world? Like is Borea/The Iron Kingdoms the equivalent of medieval europe/england? Are the Atlanteans similar to Mediterranean peoples? Are there any pseudo arabic cultures?

Yes, you basically have the correct understanding of it. I had a shitty map before, but if @Shorticus wouldn't mind lending their considerable talents to my cause, I wouldn't mind making a better one.

Iiram was generally comparable to an Ottoman/Arabian empire, though with distinct Persian and Egyptian influences as well. Gotta mangle all the cultures together.

There are other cultures in the wider world, as briefly mentioned by Gunther, who has read the info-dump from the last game (which, worry not, will be provided to all of you fine folks in its revised form). Other regions of the world include the Sand Kingdoms to the east, the Ivory Kingdoms to the south, the Jade Kingdoms in the far east, the Obsidian Kingdoms in the west and the Clay Kingdoms somewhere in parts unknown.

My talents aren't considerable, but I'm totally willing! Just give me the map you want, point out roughly where you want mountains/etc placed, and I'll make something.
