Archetype: Atlantian Name: R'olyt - Pronounced r-ohl-it - Adopted name Roland Alias: Kraken Age: 19 Powers:
The Ability to dive and swim through soil, earth and natural rock. Roland is physically able to dive into these materials and swim through it as if it were water. This is enabled through his enchanted necklace.
Slight water manipulation. Roland is able to turn solids into a water like substance and very slightly control water with his mind. The solids revert back to their natural state after Roland has stopped touching them. Also enabled by his enchanted necklace.
Telepathy with sea animals
Fish physiology. This is a broad term that includes a number of different abilities.
Breathing underwater
Seeing underwater and in extremely dark areas
Swim exceedingly quickly
Survive great pressure and cold
Enhanced hearing
Enhanced durability. Roland's durability is a bit finicky. Blunt objects and attacks do a lot more damage to him than precise sharp ones. For example, a bullet or a knife would only leave a scratch on him, but a bat to the face, while doing less than it would to a normal person, will still damage him quite a bit.
Equipment:
Enchanted necklace - Bears his family sigil - Enables him to swim through soil, earth and natural rock and manipulate water.
Dual daggers - Two curved daggers made from a stone hardened by pressure found at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.
Weaknesses:
Blunt objects and attacks.
He cannot swim through anything other than the materials listed.
Naive - Still doesn't know a huge amount about the upper world, cars and guns still confuse him.
Alignment: Hero Personality: Honest, naive, cunning, eager, fun Appearance: Roland stands at a short 3 foot 7 and is rather skinny under all the baggy clothes he wears. His knowledge of clothing is limited to say the least, and he takes his style from the American ambassador who he met upon first surfacing. The man was old to say the least, and basically picked out a combination between things that were popular in the 80s and things that just work in any time period and gave them to Roland.
His clothes now consist of mostly loose fitting black shirts coupled with black trousers on top of blue high-top trainers. He also wears a keffiyeh like scarf around his head, as his appearance often gives a fright to those who haven't met him yet.
He doesn't really have a costume, it's obvious who he is from the get-go so hiding his identity seems pointless. He does, however, bring his scarf up to cover his mouth, so he can be confused with the numerous other fish people that are no doubt walking the surface world.
BRIEF Bio: Roland, or R'olyt as he is formally known, was born in a place called The Dark Caves. The Dark Caves are a system of connected caves within the deepest point of the Mariana Trench. The Dark Caves are partially filled with water and partially dry, leading to evolution creating a race of fish people who went on to create an entire civilization within these caves. Tribes were formed and destroyed, armies came and went and finally the N'ilyt people as they became known were united under one monarchy.
This monarchy has lasted for centuries and is well respected within The Dark Caves. Roland is the son of king Ke't and queen Maedra. He was raised in lavish and luxury, being showered with gifts and high quality food. And for good reason, when he was of age he was to be the very first N'ilytian to visit the surface. The N'ilytians had visited before, although with much less fanfare and much more horror. Fortunately enough though, one strange American author met a N'ilytian and was inspired to write a book because of the experience.
Unfortunately, the expedition divided a great deal of N'ilytians. Many opposed the journey as they believe that humans would invade The Dark Caves, or were just plain racist. Nevertheless, the expedition went ahead, and at the young age of 18 Roland was sent up to the world, surfacing in North Carolina and meeting the American, British and Russian ambassadors who had rushed out to meet him.
They took their turns convincing him to make home in each of their countries, but Roland eventually decided on America, solely because one of the first things he did after surfacing was try pizza, something which he didn't and still doesn't know you can get just about anywhere.
He was roped into being a superhero after discovering that he had many abilities humans did not, and has been helping in whatever way he can ever since.
Storylines:
* Fighting some sort of political assassin group who want to destroy the monarchy of The Dark Caves
* Integrating with society - sort of just something as the plot goes along
Archetype: Alien/Plant Name: Imbricata Opuntia Alias: Grand Surveyor Opuntia (Venus) Age: Millions of years Powers: Dryad Physiology - Imbricata's appearance morphs to better match the environment, local flora blooms on her. Floraportation - Can teleport via plants Spontaneous Growth - Plant life grows faster in her wake. Photosynthetic Regeneration - Heals quickly in the presence of fertile soil, water and strong sunlight Poison/Disease Resistance - Can purge plant life from her to cure ailments Plant Manipulation - Imbricata can persuade plants into performing biological functions including floration. Plant Assimilation - Flora becomes a part of Imbricata's own biology Alien Plant Archive - Impregnated with seedlings of other worldly plants Intelligent - Possesses human intelligence
Weaknesses: Typical Plant Weaknesses Intense Heat / Fire Intense Cold Lack of Sunlight Lack of Water Herbivores
Alignment: True Neutral, plants must be found to repopulate her home planet Personality: Proud, somewhat aloof but always observant, nurturing and honest Appearance:
Imbricata is a towering 6' 0'' plant woman, her impressive height and graceful movements giving the impression of both absolute sovereignty and immense beauty. The flower petals, leaves and fronds that adorn her head emulate that a short bob. Despite being a distant traveller, all the plant life that makes up her is distinctly earthly. Her piercing ruby eyes do not look, or gaze, but survey the surroundings, judging intently. Narrow shoulders but wide hips suggest a level of fertility far beyond that of Earthlings. Instead of looking gangly or weak, Imbricata's long slender arms appear elegant. Naturally, her legs too are elegant, but also toned and shapely. Her posture is stellar, giving her perfect regal poise.
Imbricata dresses in a long dark green sleeveless gown, adorned with local flora. Primarily red flowers grow in it, accented with yellow and orange, which blend the shifting colour down the dress. Finally, Imbricata wears no shoes, and feet are cushioned by the growth that follows in her wake.
BRIEF Bio: A cutting of the amorphous plant god Eith'Og-Darhg, Imbricata Opuntia crash landed on Earth roughly 3 years ago. The event that was far more traumatic that she'd envisioned, losing more than 99.9% of her biomass on entry and what did make it to the ground was hardly fit for immediate use. All was not lost though, the dense woodland she found herself in suggested the soil was rich enough to begin healing. Her roots sunk in, analysing and absorbing the nutrients while building new synergies with the primitive life forms that shared this space. It would not be enough to mend what was lost, a feeler needed sent off to find more fertile land and to integrate with new life. It was scary to leave so much of herself behind to continue growing but it was a necessary act, the charred growth would only slow her down. Imbricata shook herself free, equipped with only with what was truly necessary and her precious cargo. She took off a writhing tentacular horror, whipping wildly through the trees as she scouted the terrian.
Unbeknownst to her, her flight path had not gone unseen. Scientists had been watching for months as her impact trajectory became more and more certain.Military had been dispatched immediately to the location once the landing had been confirmed by locals and the attention of the media was drawn, who were already speculating whether the outsider was friend or foe. It wasn't long until they found her whisking round the perimeter, attempting to get a feel for her surroundings.
Imbricata froze mid squirm. They were terrifying. Mobile Non-plants with inorganic limb extensions, they emitted light and noise too. Aggressively stimulated by even small movements. Intelligence. Maybe they can help me.
In return for her freedom, Imbricata has been working as a botanist at STRIKE for their Advanced Astroculture division. In addition, attempts have been made to train her as agent however it has been a difficult endeavour, with her only being made ready for field work recently.
Storylines:
Learning to be truly human Coming to terms with never being able to return home Coming to terms with the possibility of home planet not existing anymore
Imbricata's "ship" mends the hydroponics laboratory sufficiently for use, the alien seeds can now be grown Actually hideous plant monster hellbent on conquering Earth and making it her new space vessel kingdom. Who can stop her? Using her alien plant/plant knowledge to assist human endeavours, Imbricata angers multinational food/medicine corporations, could this illegal alien residency in the US be in jeopardy? Eith'Og-Dahrg's reputation for planetary consumption is well documented across the cosmos, who knows who might seek that bounty of a cutting? The Old Gods hide in crevices all over the unknown universe, if Imbricata can't bring herself to HIM, maybe she can find someone who knows how to bring HIM to her.
Archetype: Advanced Techno/Evil Genius Name: Fang Ai Ling (Eileen Fang) Alias: Interference, or Dr. Fang Age: 35 Powers: Eileen was born with the ability to control phenomena that exhibit mathematical wave behavior starting with sound and light, possibly getting into gravitational waves in the future. She uses technology to augment her abilities relying on harmonics. The light and sound is emitted from her body. She is also blessed with a very high intelligence and her personality gives her a certain degree of charisma.
Sound Wave Emission/Reception: Eileen can emit as well as absorb/hear audible sound as well as sound outside the audible range, allowing her to mimic voices, make herself completely silent, send out shockwaves, fire disorienting beams of ultrasound, produce the brown note, have superhearing, tell when people are lying, etc.
EM Wave Emission/Reception: Eileen can emit and absorb/see visible light as well as light outside the visible spectrum allowing her to fire microwaves, create flashbangs, camouflage, have x-ray vision, night-vision, etc.
Gravitic Wave Emission/Reception: Not yet.
Equipment:
Power suit: Provides minor protection, mainly used to focus or augment her sound and light abilities, gives her control of her 'locusts'.
Surveillance Swarm: a swarm of microrobot drones in the form of beetles/locusts used mainly for spying and eavesdropping, though Eileen can also use them offensively by laying them around in intricate patterns that amplify the harmonics of an area, augmenting her powers.
Blast Bludgeon: a long, bat-like triangular rod that functions like a tuning fork. Eileen uses this to triangulate the harmonic frequencies of objects she strikes with it. After several strikes, she is able to determine the vibrational frequency that is most destructive to the particular material she is striking. She already knows what frequency works best for concrete and bone-through-flesh.
Weaknesses: Her power is purely offensive, her body has typical human frailty. Her armor protects her somewhat, but isn't that strong, and cannot withstand a direct punch from someone with 'peak physical condition'. Without her suit, her power is also extremely unfocused due to waves' natural behavior to dissipate in all directions and losing power as a function of distance. Her most powerful abilities also often requires specific conditions for maximum effect, namely the creation of acoustic/harmonic zones with the aid of her swarm. Alignment: Villain, STRIKE Chief of R&D, Agent of STRIKE Personality: Pleasant, bookworm, Machiavellian, curious, idealistic. Or: Sweetest. Supervillain. You. Ever. Met. Appearance:
Interference wears a caped, white enamel androgynous power suit that is easily mistaken for a robot. It looks something like the following image. But the head has a single red camera in the center like the following image.
BRIEF Bio: Eileen went through her life as a model citizen. Eileen was obedient and went through life without incident. In secret, Eileen practiced her abilities; the more she learned about the scientific and mathematical properties of light and sound, the more powerful she became, able to emit anything on the electromagnetic spectrum, and all frequencies of sound, especially the inaudible frequencies. Her intellect allowed her to achieve a high profile academic career doing research for the government. Her research is in optronics: using photons instead of electrons for data storage and transfer. To harness light in this way, Eileen relies on crystals, which she has an intuitive understanding of thanks to her powers; she uses light and sound to deduce the refractive and acoustic properties of crystals before she creates devices to harness them. Optronics will be significantly faster and more powerful than electronics, so Eileen plans to make artificial intelligence based on optronic hardware. Mostly her work is in weapons development, creating efficient laser weapons and sensor technology for the military. As a government researcher, she decided to risk letting her mutant side show little by little because she wanted more from life. Slowly she revealed herself, showing off her harmless abilities, and figuring out the best and safest way to be a mutant working in the government. It wasn't long before the 'proper authorities' in the form of STRIKE came to acquire her. She leveraged her research position and her overall compliant nature and then she started demonstrating the more 'dangerous' applications of her abilities in order to get noticed, pretending that she had 'only recently' figured out these abilities in order to become a government-sanctioned superpowered individual. She has weaseled her way into STRIKE, becoming the head of their R&D department. Her understanding of light and sound as well as her computer science understanding has become a vital part of STRIKE's surveillance of superpowered individuals, or as Eileen likes to say, "I AM the Police-State". She has setup her own private lab within STRIKE HQ that people call the 'Recording Room'. Early in her life, due to her intelligence, she saw the governments of the world as inherently broken, but she did not succumb to angst and rebellion. She sees super-powered individuals as the catalyst necessary to subjugate the old conflicting governments and create a new united utopia for Earth; an Earth that can stand toe-to-toe with the allies and enemies in the galaxy and the universe at large. Her final ambition is to establish a Star Trek-esque United Federation of Planets, with Earth at the center, securing a place for Earth in the universe. Her intentions are pure, but her methods may be a little extreme as she has no qualms with 'sterilizing', cleansing or purging the world of the 'old order' as she sees necessary. Storylines:
Cheating STRIKE and the government of resources
Creating the AI being, Mythos Biblios Omniac
Assembling a team of villains
Attempting world domination
Notes:
She wants to recruit both villains and heroes to her cause, since she sees 'villains' and 'heroes' as labels the world uses to divide supers from helping each other to greatness.
Eileen will slowly attempt to accumulate things that are useful to her. Her hunger for power and knowledge is insatiable: if there is easy-to-use magic, she will attempt to infuse it into her inventions; if there is alien tech, she will reverse engineer it and incorporate it into her designs. She will cannibalize her surroundings to become more powerful. If STRIKE has a 'secret' vault, that's what she will rob right before going rogue.
Themes:
Here's something happy~
And here's something a little more...contradictory and noisy~
Archetype: Demi-God Name: Allan Vicman Alias: Fire Starter Age: 26 Powers:
Fire Manipulation- As a phoenix Allan can tap into his power and control even a tiny ember. He can create fire hot enough to melt steal or control a raging inferno and potentially snuff it out. This amount of control over fire is rather useful in dealing with an apartment fire or fighting armed criminals.
Enhanced Healing- Allan has gotten heavily injured in his time acting as a vigilante. He's dealt with gunshot wounds and even had limbs blown off. These were all fixed due to his amazing ability to heal almost any blunt force trauma quickly. However no matter how much he's able to heal pain is still a major factor and destroying the brain can cause death.
Phoenix Eyes- The eyes of the Phoenix is capable of not only incredible vision (Allan could spot a pen from three miles away) but is also able to sense how powerful a person is. For example if Allan saw a supersoldier he'd likely simply wonder who he/she was but eventually forget about them.
Phoenix Vitality- Physically Allan is closer to Olympic Athletes than most. He's generally pretty fast, strong and capable of sprinting 20 kilometers without needing a break. However, none of his physical abilities are beyond human or even peak human.
Skills:
Street Fighting- Allan has had a lot of experience brawling with people who didn't necessarily deserve to be burned up, but needed to be taught a lesson. Hacking- Basically what his older sister taught him and it is essentially both how to use simple viruses and steal passwords. Swimmer- Allan has always been interested in sports and one of the few things he excels at is swimming. He's an amazing swimmer and can hold his breath for three minutes under stressful conditions. Almost three times that otherwise.
Weaknesses: Overheating is a real possibility Allan faces when using his abilities. Allan is able to shoot out fire at close to or potentially over 1500 degrees celsius. However, this is incredibly risky since it could potentially get out of control. Its even likely Allan will simply be rendered unconscious by prolonged usage of his abilities in such a manner.
Allan also suffers sudden outbursts of rage at times. This usually occurs when seeing crimes occur that hurt the innocent. He attributes this to the Phoenix inside and the possibility that all it really wants is to see everything burn. Fighting crime is sort of a cathartic release for him, but this isn't a cure.
Allan doesn't have a superhero costume yet due to lack of affordable materials good enough to withstand his own fire and also allow to wearer good maneuverability. At most if he can prepare for it he would wear some black cargo pants, boots, gloves, dark shirt and a red hockey mask. Not much but he still needs money for books unfortunately.
BRIEF Bio: Allan Vicman is a hardworker. He works a part time job, attends college and on occasion tries to be a superhero. Allan is the only person in his family who could be called a superhuman, but more than that he's also something called a Phoenix. How they came to know about this was rather simple. His blood at around seven began to boil away if he bled, wounds healed extremely fast and sometimes he'd occasionally start fires when emotional. It took time but he was able to control it to some degree. Now, despite the knowledge of what these mythical beings actually are they only know as much as they were told by experts. A certain expert in the field of mythical creatures explained to them what he was and how Allan specifically likely came to be. The process itself varied, but what was true was that he killed the original child inside his mother's womb. While his parents either didn't believe or didn't care Allan was distraught by it and could never forgive himself.
The strong sense of justice Allan claimed to have felt like a constant inferno that partially originated from the knowledge of how he was brought into this world. As a kid even if Allan saw his family do something that was typically considered "bad" he would at least unintentionally naturally heat up his surroundings before lecturing them. Not long after learning about his birth Allan appeared obsessed with always doing the right thing whenever presented the opportunity. As he got older the world was more complicated and doing what was right was never simple. However, in New Athens he knew there was an opportunity for him to at least redeem himself and use his own powers for the greater good.
Storylines: Seek out the mysterious "Expert" who mysteriously appeared at the perfect time to assist his family, but also may know how to control his dangerous urges.
-Learn more about his own past that existed before even the modern era. A Phoenix can live for a millennia before dying, but he had no knowledge of his other lives.
Notes: Hates talking about his own love life due to finding it rather embarrassing.
