The best lies are those with little flecks of truth in them. There was no nuke, but there were explosives, oh yes. Donny knew when the right time to detonate the c4 in the bag would be. It would be when some rube walked up and took a look in. Only a hero would have the guts to do that, but what they wouldn't know would almost certainly kill them. As soon as Constantine unzipped the bag, Donny pressed a small button on his digital watch, hiding behind his vehicle and smirking.
Nothing happened. Moments later the stranger pulled a teddy bear from the bag. The trap hadn't worked.
So the freak could turn bombs into bears. Donny weighed his options, wondering what he should do. If this one had supernatural power, he'd be too dangerous to try and take alive. Well, one hero begets another. If this one was kept busy long enough, perhaps another would come loping in. Donny strode out from behind his vehicle, neatly snagging a fleeing woman by the hair and clubbing her in the jaw with his right fist before tucking the hand back into his coat pocket, where it almost always hid. She went limp as a rag doll. Donny let out a sharp whistle in Constantine's direction, and were the hero to look, Donny would give the dazed woman's head a good shaking for emphasis as he nodded for him to come over. A hostage right off the bat, and where were the police? There were a several in city hall, but it was out of their jurisdiction to leave the building and abandon the mayor and his staff. The rest of the precinct were of course dealing with literal clowns.
