The year is 2072 and the world is a stark, neon-drenched shadow of its former self. Following the Awakening in 2012, magic has returned to the world. Elves, Orks, Dwarves and Trolls have returned to the general populace, with incidents like Goblinization of 2021 causing humans to transform into Orks or Trolls seemingly at random. As if that weren't enough, megacorporations call the shots now, wielding the autonomy and power of small nations with the private security manpower to match.
Inequality is rampant, freedom can be bought and civility is a memory. In a world where zebra meat is cheaper than coffee and corporate espionage is better funded than national intelligence agencies a Runner can either thrive or perish, living in the shadows as a glorified smuggler for hire. Depending on your scruples, you could deal in anything from data to drugs to human life if the nuyen is right. But a Runner is only as good as their team, and how good you are determines how long you live.

Welcome to the future, chummer.

Shadowrun Wiki.

Rules:

- Try to post every 3 days or so if you can. If you can't just let me know in the OOC here.

- Try to post at least three sentences.

- Try to tag (i.e @Hjalti) the player you're replying to in your post so they get a notification to come check the RP.

- Obviously, no god-modding.

- Don't be a bastard. Try to be civil. (In the OOC, I mean. In the IC you can be Spider Jerusalem if that's your characters personality.)

- I don't plan on getting too caught up in the lore, so you don't need to be an expert in Shadowrun to play.

- Rules are subject to change as situations arise.

@HeySeuss

Okay, I looked over your PM and I'm going to be frank (just don't call me Shirley), your CS holds me to a higher standard (you seem better versed than I in the lore and universe) and I appreciate that. Accepted.

Awesome, thanks. I am pretty versed in SR but it's too extensive for one person to know it all. It's gotten revived with the games, which is really cool and it's awesome to see people getting into it again, since it was a speciality item in RP communities for some time.

Are we going to be set in Seattle?

I follow @The Survivor's question.

Also, can we chose sub-metas such as Dryads etc.? They are in the 5th edition in a sourcebook.

@HeySeuss I'm thinking of having a run in Neo-Tokyo, what's your opinion?

@Dark Eternity@The Survivor I'd say PM them to me to prevent the OOC getting too cluttered too fast. I'll also say yes to metavariants (With the exception of HMHVV, obviously).

Well, Japan is way more hostile to magic and metahumanity, so it's a different ball of wax. North America is more like Europe in that there's a border not too far away if you are in the Pacific Northwest.

@Hjalti

Edit: I re-read more carefully after work. Sure, a Tokyo run -might- work, but it's hard to use non-Japanese runners. An extract run to Yomi might be interesting.

@HeySeuss@Dark Eternity@The Survivor@boomlover Oh, and while I remember, everyone has 6 essence to spend on cyberware if they so choose, with a limit of one implant per area (one for arms, one for eyes, legs, etc). Just make sure you can explain how you got it in your backstory.

Physad, no implants. It dilutes essence. ;)

I posted the sheet up, but I reckoned the use of Essence and physad abilities based on the pen and paper rules rather than the PC game version. They changed the mechanics around for the game. In the RPG, physads are a lighter touch than a Street Sam.

@HeySeuss Yeah, I've been going of a bit of the game more than the books, not out of preference, just that's how it worked out. Plus I need to brush up on my reading. I figure the Physads, Shamans and Mages are less likely to go for implants anyway unless something goes horrible wrong and they lose a limb :P

Yes, because it dilutes their essence, which is tied to their ability to do magic. Though there are lots of unholy combinations of magic and cyberware out there. Some mages do basic cyberware, like a smartlink or something, but significant cyber-upgrades are anathemic for the most part.
