A new Beginning

No matter where you've landed, you sit up and before you squats a rather dilapidated building. A Tavern maybe? Surrounding it was a well kept meadow, complete with a small pond. The sound of a small creek running through the miniature body of water brings a small sense of calm over you, even if only for a moment. It would seem, at first glance, a very wild forest set up a perimeter around the meadow. In all, the meadow seemed just barely thirty feet across, if you could guess at such a thing. A second look at the tavern affords you a much better understanding of it's appearance. It's old, like the wood and a small wisp of smoke is making it's way out of a square brick chimney. Most of the structure has been overtaken by ivy and a single wooden door is set into the front wall. A sign hanging from the front of the door reads: “Open”

As Evelyn woke, she was met with a clear, blue sky. A light breeze blew through the meadow and over her body as she laid in the grass. She didn't move, glancing around out of her peripheral vision at her surroundings. Nothing but grass and wild flowers scattered around. As she sat up, something slid off her face, onto her chest. Evelyn picked up the small round glass piece and inspected it. It had a chain which was connected to her shirt. Looking through it, and around her surroundings once again, she noticed a blue notebook a few inches away from her, and a few yards away she noticed a rundown looking building. Standing up, the eye piece in her hand, and the notebook in the other, she opened it and read the first page, then flipped through to see it was all blank. What is happening? She thought. What have I gotten into? Am I still alive? Following what seemed to be instructions, Evelyn put the monocle down her shirt, keeping it clipped on, of course, and walked towards the dingy looking wooden door, opening it and peering in.

Shira could feel her eyes fluttering open as she groaned. Last thing she... huh, that was odd. She couldn't remember that much it seemed, except her name. She sat up and looked around, noticing that she was in a place she did not recognize, but to be fair, she barely knew Adam from Steve at the moment. Her eyes seemed to adjust to the bright blue sky above and the sun. As she sat up, she realized that she was holding something in each of her hands. Her right had an odd green composition notebook, and in her left, there was an odd green coin. As she looked at the large coin, roughly the size of her palm, she could feel something buzzing in not only her hand, but her head. This coin... She stood up and tucked the coin into her jeans pocket and frowned a bit as she looked around.

She opened her notebook, read briefly and then closed it and sighed a bit. Seems she had gotten herself into something interesting. She smiled a bit at that thought and tucked the notebook under her arm, and remembered the letter again. She shrugged and walked over to the tavern, and noticed a woman who looked maybe slightly younger than her opening the door and peering in to the very tavern she was planning on walking into. "Excuse me, can I pass by to get in? I kinda need to get in sooner rather than later." She offered a smile to this stranger at the door.

The first thing Jocelyn noticed when she awoke on the meadow, was a sharp pain in her head. Her hand immediately went to held it and she discovered what felt like two bumps. Her hair hid them from sight, but she sure could feel them. Her hand moved down again as she looked around.

The second thing coming to her was that in her right hand lied a purple note book. With a soft frown she took it and looked through it. Only one letter seemed to be in it and the words of it only confused her more than she already was. The letter, being adressed to her, left her wondering why she couldn't remember who the one was that signed in the bottom with only one letter of his name.

Searching her memory didn't really help much for it was mostly blank. No personal information regarding family or friends or anyone she might have ever met was available. A little concerned she told herself that it had to do with her brain injury and was only temorary. The wish to make a quick note appeared in her head and - to her big surprise - she suddenly held an elegant quill in her hand. She couldn't remember to have picked one up or even seen it. Fear struck her. Maybe she was already getting crazy? Or losing her short-time memory very very badly? Did she pick it up and then immediately forgot about it? How absurd it sounded, it still made more sense than the quill magically appearing in her hand just because she had wished for it. No that's not it.

She quickly wrote a few words underneath the letter.

Given that she couldn't do anything about her memory loss right now, she got up and - after feeling a little dizzy from getting up too fast and also the headache kicking back in - walked towards what she would guess was a tavern. The wooden door seemed to somehow pull her towards it, not magically, not over-naturally, just a feeling that she should go there to check it out.

Two other seemingly female living creatures that looked very much like humans were standing at the door. Jocelyn slowly stepped closer to them, close enough now to hear them talk. She stopped a few feet away from them.

"Excuse me?", she tried to sound polite. "Can you please let me pass?" She waited for either of them to make a move or deny her entrance. Her head started to throb in slight pain and she wished for a cold water right now.

The sun shined brightly upon William's eyes as he drifted into consciousness. He creaked his eyes open, and sat up, only to feel a rush of nausea pass over him. He shivered and rubbed his eyes, only for him to find a red notebook caught in his hand, along for him to notice a white robe upon his own body. He froze, and tried to figure out where he was, only for him to come up with a hot steaming load of nothing. He started to get more and more stressed out, realizing that he knew practically nothing about himself. He put his head in his hands, and started to sweat, and then realized what was about to happen. He leaned out over his legs, and threw up onto the ground, which actually did help clear his head a bit. He stood up shakily, and took a deep breath, starting to calm down and feel at least a little better.

He flipped open his notebook, to find it blank save for one letter. He scanned it over and frowned, finding himself with more questions than answers. He didn't have a place to put the notebook, and it did say that would always return to him, so even though he was pretty sure that that was impossible, he placed the notebook on the ground, deciding that he would just attempt to summon it back when he next needed it. He saw a of group of humans congregating near the door to the tavern mentioned in his notebook, and he made his way over to them, saying, "Killer idea guys, let's go in the tavern." He drawled, not in the most patient mood right now. The taste of vomit still was still stuck in his mouth, and he desperately wanted to clear it out.

As the small group waited at the entrance, something refused to wait on them. It had been quite some time since the meadow had entertained visitors and, thusly, had been left unfettered. Now that true footsteps had fallen on the hallowed ground once more, so once more hunger had awakened. A chill breeze starts up out of seemingly no where; a dark pall. Each one of them experience an over assertive chill run both ways along their spines. Any of the group holding their notebooks would noticed that they had blinked out of existence and attempting to call them would only call them for a fraction of a second. If things could be taken at face value then each of them might choose to enter the tavern, posthaste. Unfortunately, those peering in through the door way could see... well, very little. just past the threshold of the door was, what could be best described as, black water. It was teeming and coalescing but never crossing towards them and the doorway. The light of day passed within an inch or two of the odd surface but revealed nothing. They had a choice, brave the darkness or! Brave what ever it was happening outside. Either way, bravery was required ahead.

Evelyn heard a woman's voice. She turned her head, pulling her attention away from inside the tavern. She smiled at the woman and opened her mouth to respond... when she heard footsteps coming behind the stranger who just appeared, came yet another stranger. Again, asking her to move out of the way. Evelyn smiles at stranger #2 and begins to respond when she hears someone retching. She leans to side to look past the other two ladies to see an eccentric looking young kid, looking a bit unsteady as he straightened himself up. He walked over and rather than asking us to move, he was impatient and the sarcasm came out as easily as that vomit had. Evelyn stepped back to look at everyone, her hand on the door knob.

"I'm sorry everyone," she spat out nervously, "I was just being cautious." Giving an awkward smile to her new acquaintances, she peeked through the door again, then stepped back away from it to let everyone in before her.

Shira looked at girl in front of the door and offered her a small smile. "Nothing wrong with being cautious, but next time, maybe not block the doorway." As she looked around at the three other strangers there, she couldn't help but have a feeling of protection wash over her. She knew she barely knew these people, or even their names, but she had to protect them.

She couldn't do that in the field. She instinctively took a step towards the inside of the tavern and turned towards the others. "C'mon, something tells me we should all head inside instead of waiting out here for whatever is gonna happen. I think our best bet is to head inside." Shira turned towards the group, looking them over again. There was a boy that barely looked like he was legal in any sense of the word, and a woman that looked around her age. She knew in her gut that she had to lead the way for this group of ragtag people, even if she had never met them before. She took the step into the darkness of the tavern and let everything fade away.

Jocelyn felt relief wash over her as the doorway was free for her to pass through, and even more so when a woman suggested they should head inside. Suddenly a very sharp feeling crashed onto her - horror. She looked around for anything to see. She could feel something was odd, she suddenly felt very watched out there in the open and she knew if they didn't move now, they would probably not make a next move whatsoever.

Jocelyn was convinced that the tavern was their only safety right now, and staying out here would mean playing a beast into their hands - or paws? However, she wanted to quickly get them all inside.

So Jocelyn agreed with a nod and added: "We should get inside real quick. Whatever knocked me out, it might come back." She didn't believe that her knocked out state and her memory loss were a simple "accident". There was more to it. She had been attacked - she couldn't think why else she would have lied in the open with not even a brick to her head to explain her memory loss and bumps. She wanted to get inside, right now. Luckily she had never been scared of the dark before.

"Move", she said with pressure in her voice and stepped inside the tavern, hoping the others would follow right away. If not, she would either have to pull them in or leave them to their destiny. Quickly she decided to add one last sentence to try and get them all to come in right now. "I think something's out there."

William looked into the tavern as the girl moved out of the way, apologizing for her prudent behavior. He waved it off, "You're fine, I just need t-" He started to say, before seeing what was inside the tavern, and feeling his stomach turn over. He felt another poignant spell of nausea wash over him as he saw the indescribable blackness spilling out in the Tavern. He swallowed hard, not wanting to throw up again, and he exhaled heavily as a horrible dizziness passed over him. He shivered, unable to tell if the outside was getting colder, or if it was just his body getting ready to vomit. He heard somebody suggesting that they should get inside, and he wasn't in any state to argue, so he weakly nodded and entered into the tavern, watching the darkness in the Tavern carefully as he tried to regain control of himself.

Those of you still standing in the meadow can practically taste the tension in the air. The sky itself seems to hang heavily on your shoulders. If things progress any further then it doesn't seem as though our adventurers will partake in much of an adventure. The wood of the tavern begins to creak under the weight of the air and the sky visibly darkens despite the lack of any kind of inclimate weather. You can hear what sounds like branches snapping in the distance. Anyone would be hard pressed to think of a locale they'd rather not be and, for our fledgling group, that frame of mind was a harsh reality.

What ever had been destructively making it's way through the forest was becoming louder, surely staying put was a fools errand. OR maybe we've a group of risk takers?

Evelyn noticed a slight discomfort in the teen and irritation in the other woman. As the three hurried into the tavern, she took a quick glance around her surroundings. It seemed to be getting darker, and...louder? It felt like it was about to storm. There should have been clouds hiding the sun, and the wind should be whipping around, but there was nothing.

Evelyn nodded i agreement with the irritated woman. "Something really doesn't feel right." She followed everyone in quickly, practically shoving the teenage boy forward, and slamming the door shut behind her.

As Shira stepped into the tavern, she realized it was dark all around her. She felt like she had stepped into a room full of water, rather than just a dark room. The first step felt like mud, and the second felt like she wasn't getting any further into the room. It took her a moment to realize, but she wasn't able to breath. She gasped and clutched at her throat and then flailed around the room a bit. Her vision blurred as she realized she was passing out. "Oh... so this...is how..." She then blacked out.

She awoke with a gasp, as she realized she could breath again. She looked around the room frantically, and realized she was sitting in one the most comfiest chairs she had ever sat in. In front of her were three doors. A door of copper with iron fixings, a wooden door with copper fixings, and an iron door. However, all three doors lacked a way to open them, and as she looked around and realized there were no windows, and no way she could have fallen into this room. She willed her notebook into her hand, and a pen appeared with it. She smiled and started writing.

Jocelyn stood inside the tavern and what little light had been coming from outside the door died down when the wooden door got shut closely. They were in pitch darkness now, not that the light from outside had given any insight anyway.

The blonde made another careful step - and felt like water was passing over her, though there was no temperature change. The substance felt quiet thick, but she moved through it easily. The feeling of stepping onto mud and then --

She had only a second to yelp, and then slided downward for what felt like an eternity. Jocelyn was almost sure that there was no end, when her breathing heavied and she had trouble gaining oxygen into her lungs.

When she woke up, her head felt slightly dizzy, but to her relief she felt no chains or restrains, no headache, no wounds and no broken bones. She was relatively fine, as it seemed. Jocelyn looked around. She was sat on a mahogany chair cushioned with white lace pillows. It seemed as thoughs she was set atop a stone pillar. Only that fact made her cringe, thoughts of bloody rituals roaming throug her uneasy mind. And there she thought the tavern was safe - but nevertheless, she was still 100% convinced that this was better than whatever had waited for them outside.

Her eyes kept moving. Around the pillar is darkness and nothing but darkness. Of course, she thought annoyed. A doorway seemed to be the one and only way to get in or out this creepy room; about twelve feet away. But there was no way to guess how deep this pillar went and if it was safe to climb down. The more Jocelyn tried to see any kind of ground, the more it seemed there was none. She shivered. The situation was not at all making her feel good.

She tried to guess why someone would put her into the chair, why someone would even put a slide-thing beneath a tavern... but no answer would come across her mind. Thinking about answers or rather the lack of it, she suddenly got the deep, heavy wish to be able to at least talk about this whole mess with someone. Even if they had no answers, being two was better than being lonely in this darkness. Carefully, and not convinced that it was a good idea, she called out. "Is someone there?"

She didn't expect an answer and - what is that? Something was lying on her lap and as she looked down she saw the note book from earlier. How....? She couldn't remember it being there when she woke up, she couldn't in fact remember it being on her after getting up from the meadow whatsoever. Jocelyn frowned. The quill lied on the closed note book, basically begging to be used.

So the took the quill and opened the book - and gasped! Her earlier little note had indeed received a reply, not a useful one to say the least, but nevertheless a reply. She frowned and quickly decided that whoever had put her here, had written the few words beneath her own to mess with her. She was angry. Someone was playing games.

The quill in her hand, she began to write an angry note for when whoever had taken the note book to answer was getting it into their hands again to know exactly how much she liked this little game!

William was caught off guard by the sudden shove from Evelyn, and found himself falling headfirst into the cold blackness. He felt himself grow cold, tumbling over until he landed crosslegged on the floor of a much more warm and welcoming tavern. The tavern was alive and /actually/ had a barkeep. He glanced around and saw Evelyn, before waving at her and summoning his notebook, along with a number two pencil. He quickly sketched a response into it, before giving a bemused expression at some of things that had been written to him.

He stood up and walked over to Evelyn, already starting to feel better from the dizzy spell he was suffering from. He glanced around and said, "Something's a bit off, though I can't quite remember what normal is, this is certainly weird." He mused. He cocked his head over to her, "Uh, I'm William by the way." He introduced himself, realizing they didn't know each other's names yet.

Evelyn felt herself fall into the pool of some seemingly black liquid. It was cold, wet, but didn't stick to her. She opened her eyes and was on the floor, in a position much like the way she woke up in this... world? Lying down on her back. Evelyn noticed the more welcoming atmosphere. Is this the same tavern? Looking around to take in the new surroundings, a rough looking barkeep didn't seem to notice some strange woman appearing on the floor. Or was I in here, on the floor this whole time? Shaking her head to clear the thought, she sees the teenager from the group.

He spoke to her, mentioning the oddness of the situation, and then introducing himself. Evelyn took a couple steps closer, then realizing the awful headache that was forming. She gave a half-smile, and nodded in agreement. "I feel like we'll need to get used to this. Fast." She held out her hand. "I'm Evelyn."
