Pazice watched her cannonball sail past her target and she began to strafe around the arena, outrunning his gunfire and keeping on the move, her eyes locked on him as she readied herself. This time, she tracked his movements and blew on her horn to send another cannonball flying, this time sending it slightly ahead of him to stop his movements, then she could open fire with another straight shot.

As he spotted the incoming projectile, he fought the instinct to stop in his tracks and instead forced his legs forwards while shifting his centre of mass downwards, causing him to slide underneath the cannonball with the barest of margins. Pushing himself back into a crouch, he angled his run so that he drew closer to her. His thumb flicked a switch on the side of his rifle, the lights near the end of his weapon turning purple as a vial of Gravity Dust clicked into place.

He managed to raise his weapon in time as she fired her second shot, firing a bust at the incoming cannonball. The gravity dust infused into the shots ignited on contact, the resultant forces knocking the iron ball off-course to smash into the ground to his right. Seemingly un-phased on the outside, Venator was very glad his on-the-spot gamble worked out, or he would have taken a mass of iron straight to the face. Taking advantage of the time between shots, he ran towards her at a shallow curve, hoping to keep her pinned under rapid bursts of gravitationally-assisted gunfire.

Pazice blinked a few times at the slide underneath her attack, but she didn't hesitate to fire a second time. There was a brief misconception that the projectile was solid iron, it was more akin to an energy construct created within the workings of the trombone, more akin to a ball of energy, though it still bore the strength and weight of a cannonball. Nevertheless, it was still affected by gravity, and sailed past him and slammed into the floor.

Pazice once again moved in opposition to his gunfire as it nipped at her heels, only just missing her before they closed the gap and now Pazice pushed on the end of her trombone. The weapon took on its alternate mode as it extended out and a long vibrating chainsaw blade now replaced the handle. She was coming right at him, going for a chest stab with her saw.

Sidestepping the initial strike, Venator was quick to back-step a few times to fire another burst of fire as he closed the dust valve. Being careful to stay outside her melee range but too close for her to use the cannon effectively, he forced her back with a few more bursts before bolting forward with his weapon in sword form and striking at her arms and torso, specifically near her weapon.

Pazice hissed as her strike missed and she wasn't able to follow through. She held her chainsaw blade flat to deflect some of his shots but took a little residual damage from his gunfire, keeping her position pointed at him. When he finally sprung forth, she met him head on, blocking the blade of his sword with her chainsaw. As they clashed, the vibrations from her saw traveled into Ven's arms and caused harsh shaking in them. It was happening a bit for Pazice too, but from the smile on her face, he could gather she was used to this.

Venator couldn't help but grit his teeth at the rapid onset of dumbness from the vibration of the chainsaw's teeth against the blade of his sword. Either by clever engineering or a damn-near miracle, the blade held out against the savage weapon, but he knew he had to force her back while his arms still could. Dangerously close to having the weapon slip from his grasp, he forced the chainsaw away and used the opportunity to make a slash at her.

He was able to knock her backwards to break their clash and take his swing. Pazice wasn't able to effectively counter him so she instead opted to block with the flat end of her chainsaw, their blows bouncing off of one another in a resounding clash. Her arms most likely couldn't take another round of playing chainsaw vs blade.

His eyes locked onto his target, Venator pulled his blade back as it bounced off of the chainsaw's flat side and prepared to strike again. He needed to avoid getting blade-locked, lest he risk the vibrations numbing his arm, so he adopted a strategy of quick slashes intermittently interrupted with strong stabs. With any luck, he could put her completely on the defensive and push the match a little more in his favour. If he could avoid it, he wouldn't use any of the tricks up his sleeve and would win through skill.

Pazice's face scrunched up slightly as they battled, having to use the flat of her weapon to block the quick strikes, Ven's superior strength slowly pushing her back. She didn't dare try to block his stabs, so instead opted to dodge to the left of his attack and move backward quickly, swapping her weapon's mode again and firing off another brass sound cannonball.

Venator barely had time to react as she fired. He side-stepped just in time to avoid the worst of the blow, but it was still enough to knock him backwards and off his feet. Rolling to recover as quickly as possible, he put his weapon back into rifle form, quickly raising the weapon to load Lightning-type dust and fire off three retaliatory bursts, one in front and two on target.

With any luck, the increased velocity of the bullets would grant him a few more hits, and the residual electrical effect would stun or at least slow the girl down. His goal of using as few tricks as possible getting further and further away, Venator was still hesitant to rely on his semblance if he didn't know more about Pazice's fighting style. After all, the right semblance could counter his completely, which would be a serious problem.

The increased velocity caught Pazice off guard as she took the electrical rounds on the chin and cried out as she was paralysed from the residual electricity, leaving her open for a strike.

Using the electrical stun effect to his advantage, Venator bolted towards his target as he fired off a stream of Ice-laced bullets, the freezing effect serving to further immobilise his opponent. As he got close to Pazice, he swept his leg around and kicked her legs from under her before pressing his boot into her ribs, hard enough to keep her down but not hard enough to cause severe pain. He lined the sights of his weapon to the spot between her collarbones.

"Surrender."

The ice bullets laced her form, slowing the girl down further before Ven's legs swept under her, knocking her down with an unceremonious "Ooof!" from her. She was pinned down under his boot and reached for her weapon, about to jam it into his leg, but his rifle found her chest first and prevented her completing her attack. Her eyes flicked between Ven and his weapon before she sighed in irritation.

"A-alright... I surrender." she let her weapon go as the screens above correlated to her words, a white flag waving in front of Pazice's picture as Venator was declared the victor.

"Very good show, both of you." Miss Lariet came onstage, looking between them. "Ven, you have excellent technique and a sign of mercy, something a huntsman can make good use out of... just be aware such mercy can have consequences, ok?" she was smiling throughout. "And miss Pazice, it takes a humble huntress to know when she's beat and admit defeat, it can save lives. Of course, you need to improve on avoiding bit strikes for the smaller ones as well."

"Yes ma'am." Pazice nodded, putting her trombone back in its case.

"I'll... keep that in mind."

Venator collapsed his weapon into its compact form and placed it back onto its place on his hip as he took in the instructor's words. Mercy wasn't something he was familiar with, but he was glad he had the opportunity to choose for once. It felt... calming almost, a stark contrast to his life before Lustre. Nevertheless, he pushed those thoughts away as he turned to Pazice before getting changed and returning to his seat.

"That was a good fight, It was a pleasure sparring with you Pazice."

"Woo good job cap'n!" Azura cried out excitedly as she saw the fight come to an end. It had been super cool and colorful, switching from gunfire to melee combat to a final sweeping conclusion! Ven was pretty good at this whole fighting thing, or least looked like he was. Azura wondered if everybody in class would get to fight like this or if it would only be a few. She also curious what her next class would be like, hopefully it would be fun.

Julio watched only with mild interest. However, he watched Pazice with much more interest than Venator. Her choice of weaponry was quite interesting. He also wondered if the bullets, if he can even call it that, were made of lead or something else. When the match ended with Pazice's surrender, which was quite surprising for Julio. He hasn't seen a spar where someone actually surrendered. It was usually a fight 'till someone's aura dropped a certain level. Well, he guessed there were things he one can do in a spar that Julio was unfamiliar with. Anyhow, a good fight it was.

Once both students had returned to their seats, Miss Lariet decided to approach the class, standing on the arena and looking over them

"I've seen some great impressions of this year's students here today and I look forward to more classes with all of you. In your time outside of class, I want you to practice your combat skills with one another, learn from your mistakes and strive to work together. It is together we stand and divided we fall."

With that, the bell rang, indicating the class was over and the students could leave.
After lunch, the students were told to gather in entrance hall for a group assignment, various boards were lined with jobs they'd be doing for the rest of the day.

Among some of these options was patrolling the wall around Vault, Grimm hunting outside the town, assisting on security detail at the Vault museum and protecting a convoy of dust to a smaller settlement.

Azura ran over to a job board quickly after once again scarfing down enormous quantities of food in a remarkably short period of time. "Hey, hey Cap'n, which one are we gonna do huh? They all look kinda boring but that just means we get to do more team bonding! Which one should we do?!" She seemed very excited about the whole thing and it seemed like Azura would keep asking until she got a reply one way or the other. Perhaps she was simply excited to go on her first mission.

His eyes closed as he rested briefly into his seat, they slid open again at the sound of the bell in time to see Azura bolt off towards the main hall. He sighed a little to himself as he quickly deduced her destination as the main hall, namely the Mission Boards. Rising from his seat to roll his shoulders, he gestured for his team to follow him as he lead them towards their excitable compatriot.

He stepped in line with her as he spoke, taking a second to look at the details of each mission before straightening up and turning to his team. "Depending on if you all feel up to it, I've narrowed it down to two options. If you guys want to play it safe and go for a more relaxed option, I'd suggest patrolling the wall. We'd most likely being assisting the defence force already stationed there, so we don't have to be so on guard. The other option, if you'd prefer something a little more active, is the Convoy. It's going through open territory, so we'd have to be alert for possible Grimm encounters. If you don't like either of those, We'll join up with the hunting party outside the walls."

With classes largely done for the day, there were a bunch of jobs on the noticeboard, that they gathered around to look at. A few groups already grabbed a bunch, leaving only three left. Regular patrol, convoy escort, or hunting. The hunt appealed to him personally, but he didn't have much experience when it came to tracking out in the woods. Tracking people in a city he can do, but not a beast out in the woods. Maybe convoy escort then...? Since he was the leader of his team, he gets the final say, but maybe he should see what they think...

"I'm thinking convoy or hunt, what do you guys think?", he asked simply. Combat was assured in one, and merely expected in the other. A dust shipment to a small village is usually a simple affair, with very little interference, so it was likely a peaceful mission. Occasionally there'd be thieves he would wager, but they lived in a rather peaceful time. The Grimm Hunt seemed more standard to what their profession was to be though, but he had no experience tracking in the wild, perhaps Cedar did though... Regardless, he waited for an answer.
