War... War never changes...

But people do... based on the roads one travels...

But there are some roads in life...ONE MUST NEVER TRAVEL!!!

-----

Come travelers, Take a seat around the fire. Let its fire scare away the darkness of this moonless night. Listen to a tall tale of an old wander. I come from a place far from here. Far to the South and far to the east. From a place surrounded by Ocean on three sides tucked underneath the main of the continent. Back in the old days, Before the war, When the good old US of A still stood proudly, the Place was known collectively as the State of Florida. I cannot say I ever know why it was called that. You see I am a survivor of those nightmare lands. Among the first to leave vault 122, first to stumble on vault 38. That number still haunts my dreams. Thirty Eight. Inside the ruins of Vault 38, we found a miracle of science. The fabled G.E.C.K. OH!? Never heard of a G.E.C.K.? It stands for the Garden of Eden Creation Kit. It was a world changing device. Able to create rainforests out of deserts. Restore the world as it was before the war, before the bomb. It was the pinnacle of Human technological prowess. Well, at least of anything before the Great War. Possible, after too. Doubt the Enclave could build one if they wanted to. Anyways, Before I get sidetracked, The G.E.C.K. is not what it is advertised to be. Vault City got lucky. Project Purity got Lucky. But you must believe me, Humans were exiled from Eden. We were never supposed to go there again. When we activated the device, it was not Eden, but Pandora's Box. Florida returned to lush green but it was wrong. Monsters, demons, and all kinds of horrors sprung forth. Never go to Florida. This wasteland seems peaceful in comparison... but, if you do, destroy the G.E.C.K!

----------------------

Ok, I kinda got carried away with the theatrics. A Garden of Eden Creation Kit has been activated in Florida. An Irradiated G.E.C.K. actually. Any Fallout fans should imagine what terrible things an irradiated piece of terraforming equipment would be like. Nothing good came from radiation. Well, maybe ghouls, if you are into that. We will be going to destroy the G.E.C.K. and stop the spread of this post apocalyptic terror that is the Everglades. You can be from any faction (or not) the east or West Coast. If you are from the West Coast, you need to be able to justify you crossing the entire US to get to Florida.

Any Questions? Anyone interested?

----------

Anyways, as far as the kind of monsters given life here are but a few. Alligators grow as large as Cars. Snakes grow aware from 15 to thirty feet long. This jungle land has a unique breed of Giant ants. Primarily black in color, its workers grow to be the size of a dog. Warriors can get to stand six feet while on all 6 legs. Workers will spray a flammable tar-like substance as a defense mechanism before fleeing. Warriors are able to breath fire which can ignite the tar. Dragonflies are common in the jungles, though they now are as large as eagles. Beetles now grow up to the size of small house cats.

Now, not all threats are unique to the Post war everglades. Deathclaws take on a sickly shade of green as they stalk prey through the trees. Radroaches of course exist. Yuoi Gui have made their nests within the safety of the greenery. Large cats and dogs also roam here. A variety of Green Geckos exist here as well. They hunt in packs and can if in large enough numbers be bold enough to challenge a deathclaw. Supermutants have found a natural home here. Their large size makes survival easier. They have socially devolved into stick wielding savages mostly. They hunt and gather to support a tribal lifestyle. They are less threatening to humans than other areas because humans have too little meat compared to other jungle critters.

Now, if radiation and animal life was not enough, you should take a look at the plants. Many of the fruit bearing plants do not like their delicious fruits being stolen. When a fruit is plucked, the plant will release a poisonous mist to kill the would be plunderer. Some plants do eat meat. There are several Venus fly trap like plants that lure animals inside. Other plants stay still until movement awakes them and they grab with veins to slowly devour their prey. Not all plants are stationary. Some get up and hunt like animals. These walking trees are called Ents.

Another plant type to be avoided is a parasite that infects those who do not have proper access to medicine. It spores buries itself under the skin and begins to grow. First symptoms is skin irritation followed by Flowers coming out of the skin. The plant then slowly takes over the host and eventually turnes the host into something akin to the spore carriers out of Vault 22 in Nevada. When the host corpse eventually dies, the plant takes roots wherever it falls.

Age: (Be reasonable for your race. Ghouls could have existed since before the war while Synths are new to the environment.)

Gender:

Race: (Primarily human, but i will allow Ghoul, Supermutant, or Synth to be playable)

Primary Skills*: (Pick three from the games.)

SPECIAL*: (You start of with 1 point in each of the special stats. You then have 33 aditional points to distribute among the seven different stats. You may not have more than 10 points in any one stat.)

Gear/inventory: (At most three weapons based on their weight. If you carry a fat man, it is likely to carry a second large weapon unless you are a super mutant.)

History: (Why did you come to FLorida?)

*These have more of a roleplay use than actually gameplay mechanics. Just because you have chosen to use to specialist in energy weapons it does not forbid you from picking up an ax and hitting your enemy with it. But if your strength is low, do not be so naive to think that you can take on a supermutant in a arm wrestling contest.

History: Joshua was only 4 when his vault was opened and the horrors of the wasteland came to greet him. Life was pretty good until then, and to be perfectly honest, life was pretty good after that too. For a time, anyway. Sure, his human family was either murdered or transformed into super mutants thanks to the invading army of The Master, but on the bright side he had made plenty of new friends! Joshua was deemed too young to be dipped into FEV, and so he was raised as a human for a few years, living with the Order in their great cathedral. Thanks to this, he became a devout member of the Unity and follower of the Master. Once he had reached his teens, it was deemed appropriate that he be dipped.

Once he had made the transformation, Joshua was one of the lucky mutants that not only managed to hold on to his intelligence, but actually found his mind enhanced. Of course this was a blessing brought on by the Master, just one of the gifts provided by Unity. Those mutants that lost a few brain cells, he considered to have been heretics or non-believers that were being punished with a “lesser form” after becoming one with Unity. So for many years he served the Master and the Lieutenant as a loyal soldier in their army. While he preferred not to roam the wastes and instead focus on the infrastructure of their main HQ at Mariposa military base, occasionally directives came from higher up and he’d have to journey out. Finding smaller guns too impractical to work with, and most larger weapons too difficult to aim (for he wasn’t a trained combatant), Joshua found his niche with explosions. You know how the old saying goes. Almost only counts in horseshoes and high-ordnance missile launchers.

Joshua was out on one such patrol when a devastating event occurred. He returned home only to find that Mariposa… Was a smoking ruin. Joshua did what he could and managed to salvage just enough of the security footage outside the base to see a squad of Brotherhood paladins in power armor storming the front doors, but nothing more. With the Lieutenant gone and desperate for guidance, he made the long trek to the Boneyard to seek out the Master… Only to find the same. That moment broke something deep in Joshua. He had spent his entire life devoted to Unity, to the Master, believing that they were completely unstoppable in their perfect forms… But clearly that was not the case. Lost, Joshua took to roaming blindly about the wastes, searching for any of his mutant kin.

Over the years, the California wasteland changed around Joshua. Mutants were few and far between, but humans… They began to thrive. They got more organized, built an infrastructure, even a small country! This gave them great strength, and Joshua had to admit to the irony in it. The Master’s army attempted to force Unity upon the population, and they were destroyed for it. Now these humans were achieving a different kind of Unity, and while there was the occasional bloodshed, it appeared to mostly be by choice. Disillusioned, and seeing some of his brothers joining this New California Republic, Joshua decided to roam eastward.

His travels took him to many interesting locations, usually fraught with dangers (as the wasteland tends to be). One place in particular, however, stood out. It was a small town that occupied an old military base: Hopeville. The community was only just growing, but the resources they had were truly considerable. It brought Joshua back to his old days at Mariposa. The people were distrustful of him, and he of them, but as it turned out they were having problems with some of the machinery they needed to get their settlement up and running. So Joshua approached them with a deal. He would use his skills and experience as a mechanic and knowledge of old world military tech to repair their damaged equipment, and in return he would get some provisions and a specialty weapon for his travels. The citizens of Hopeville agreed to the provisions, but refused to place heavy ordnance in the hands of a super mutant. Disappointed, Joshua agreed to the terms, as he was not a negotiator.

It took a few days, but Joshua trained a few of them on the workings of the base, and together they got things up and running. Things quickly turned around when a deathclaw attacked, killing three of the citizens in a blitz before running off. Having grown attached to the people, Joshua decided to join the hunting party they had put together. To his surprise, they allowed him to go along and provided him with a treasure from the military base: a Red Glare Rocket Launcher. Over the course of four days they hunted the deathclaw back to its nest, but by the time they had arrived, the humans were exhausted and in no condition to battle one of the wasteland’s most dangerous predators. Joshua went into the cave alone, promising them retribution. Inside he found more than just the deathclaw. He found an entire chamber full of eggs, all surrounding a misplaced nuclear warhead. Daring not to engage the nest head on, Joshua used his extensive knowledge of explosives and fired his rocket launcher at the warhead, damaging the casing and triggering a contained explosion… Without setting off the nuclear component. The resulting explosion destroyed the eggs, killed the deathclaws, and caused a cave in. Joshua was regarded a hero of Hopeville and given the moniker of the “Megaton Mutant.” For the first time in a long while, he felt like he belonged…

Which meant he had to leave immediately. The last time he had belonged, he lost what he lived for. It was too painful, and he couldn’t bare to stand the thought of repeating it. His journeys continued, now armed with the Red Glare. Pressing forward, Joshua arrived in the midwest, where he happened upon by far the most peculiar and bizarre sight in his life. A small group of Brotherhood of Steel paladins approached, and among their ranks were two ghouls, a protectron, and a trained hound. Expecting a fight with his kind’s oldest and most hated enemy, he prepared himself, but nothing could prepare him for what happened next. The commanding officer there… Offered to recruit him. What? He couldn’t have heard that correctly, right? No, he did? Um, ok. Well then, uh… In any case, Joshua declined, but the encounter had been thought provoking. How long had he been wandering alone? How out of touch was he? Were mutants now accepted among humans? If the Brotherhood of all people could accept him… He still wouldn’t join anybody, but perhaps he didn’t have to remain as isolated as he was. That’s when Joshua decided to become a mercenary for hire. He heard tale that the East coast was in a great deal more turmoil than than back home in the West was, so that’s where he headed.

A week was all the time Joshua needed in the Capitol Wasteland to realize that no, mutants were not universally accepted now. Over there, mutants and humans remained in a constant never-ending war, killing one another uselessly. He had learned his lesson after getting shot at the first time he approached a group of humans. His first run in with the local mutants didn’t go so well either, as they had proven to be even dumber than the worst of his brothers back home, and twice as bloodthirsty. Actually, it was strange that there were other mutants at all when he thought about it. Of course, he didn’t know too much about the FEV or its origins, only what Unity and the Master had told him, and thinking back on it there was never a lot of practical knowledge or history in those sermons. Well to get back to the point, Joshua decided that while the Capitol Wasteland had indeed been in greater turmoil and thus a man of his talents and services would be in high demand, clearly his origins were a dangerous point of contention. He left, deciding to head South.

And that is where our tale begins, as the Megaton Mutant has crossed the entire country over more than a century, and now has found his way to the Florida Everglades, unsure of what awaits him, save for one certainty: war. Because war never changes.

Name:
Rogh Hill

Alias:
The Lucky Bastard

Age:
29

Gender:
Male

Race:
Human

Appearance:
Rogh is a rather tall man, standing at just about 1 meter and 92 centimeters. He has fairly long, messy, black hair which leads just about down the shoulders. A bit of a stubble is forming on his chin, but it doesn't seem to grow past that. Across the right side of his lip is a small scar that looks like it might've torn it in half at one point, but has long since healed. He's a little on the orange side in terms of skin but manages to just not be. His normally green and gray eyes are covered by a leathery brown cowboy head he keeps on all the time. His clothes consist of a pre-war white shirt, some pretty neat brown pants and a long, black overcoat that leads all the way down to his knees. His shoes consist of practical boots, though they look like they've seen some wear and tear.

Primary Skills:
Small Guns, Sneak, Lockpick

SPECIAL:
Strength: 1.
Perception: 7
Endurance: 2
Charisma: 7
Intelligence: 5
Agility: 8
Luck: 10!

Gear/inventory:
He has three stimpacks, a .44 Magnum Revolver with exactly 42 bullets, his black coat, a desperado hat and a whole lot of bobby pins and caps.

History:
Rogh's a gambling man. A betting man. A risky man. His whole life in the wastes he's been doing nothing but enter casinos and getting kicked out for his winning streaks, surviving dangerous encounters by eerily convenient means and once staring a deathclaw right in the eye, somehow managing to get far enough away from it. It's been a wild ride for the guy and didn't look to be letting up any time soon. He's picked up the habit of flipping pre-war coins to go wherever, having realized that his luck would probably set him on the right path. It didn't take long for him to learn he was the luckiest person on the planet, not with those encounters. His habit of flipping coins paid off time and time again, until a wanderer went up to Rogh and started a conversation. They told the man about Florida, and how he should never, ever go there. His reply, was this: "Well, pardner... We'll flip a coin, both of us. Either land on heads, I'll stay. But with tails..." Rogh had warned the man, who didn't have a coin on him. Rogh lent him one.

The results? Two tails.

Question, would a companion be too much to ask? I want my guy to be a Vault Dweller, but I want to recreate my fondest memories of killing wasteland scum with a ghoul buddy by my side. Or a dog. Or a mutated alligator named Sebastian.

@Orlan This rp is set after the events in fallout 4, though that would have little to no impact on this region. Project purity did get activated like in fallout 3 by brotherhood hands. I could imagine the DC BoS sending some scouts south but their main focus continues to be the commonwealth. As far as the West coast, Legion lost the second battle of Hoover dam during the events of New Vegas and is trying to invade the NCR while holding onto its vast territories after the death of Ceaser.

@POOHEAD189A companion is not out of the question. If you want one, feel free. And that goes for anyone actually. If you want a companion and can do it justice than you can have one. Also, a mutated alligator named Sebastion could easily be doglike enough to qualify.

Oh certainly, an old man and an even older super mutant arguing over who has the best explosives, over how superior or inferior super mutants are, probably even over which mutated traveller is better, Ol'Com or Joshua, maybe even over how good a hunting rifle is compared to a rocket launcher that gives the Railroad ideas.
