A GOT-esque style roleplay, world building, big old fun time.

Hi everyone! This is a very very sloppy interest check so I apologize in advance.

I've had a couple people already contact me about my status I had posted a few days about wanting to host an extensive Game of Thrones style type of roleplay with action, love, drama, and of course a splash of humor. I know this is a big project already, so I'm looking to everyone for ideas and help to create something that we can enjoy together.

I find that on the guild often we have these great ideas that don't get very far past the first couple days into the IC, and I want something different. I want to make friends with the people I roleplay with. I want people to be able to join and stay. If they leave, I want to be able to kill them off without hurting the rest of the story. I want people to be able to join whenever without feeling like they are out of the loop.

Is that too much too ask? :( I hope not

So far things I've decided and thought about:
- The name of the world is called Lhivoria
1) Should the land be like our own?
2) Should there be creatures like; giants, dwarves, centaurs, dragons, etc?
3) Should there be magic in general?

- There won't be any legitimate ties to the Game of Thrones world. Just ideas from it
1) Is that something people would want?

- To make things not TOO overwhelming there will only be about 5 locations to choose between
1) Is 5 too many?
2) Would it be better to have everyone from 1 location?

- From these locations there will be about 12 last names/lines to come from
1) Is 12 too many?
2) Would it be better to have everyone from the same family?

In the nature of geography and the ways culture corresponds with that geography? Yes, I absolutely think so. Think of a tribe living in the snow, but they walk around in loincloths. Makes no sense.

If you're inquiring about the more nuanced things like the shape and form of trees then yes I do think it should be like ours. Having built an extensive world before (as you've seen) imagine how long that post would be if I also added original wildlife and such. It's easier to keep it to what we know.

Maybe in spirit of GoT, yes, but keep it limited to mythical creatures and not other races, and make them very rare. So giants, dwarves, centaurs, no, not really, they don't do it for me. However this is, of course, up to popular demand. If the people want it then you should consider it.

3) Should there be magic in general?

Make a distinction between high and low magic. High magic being shooting fireballs at eachother, and low magic being more like subtle curses, superstition that could be real, and such. I am not a fan of magic (as a GM) because it involves a lot of work in keeping it balanced and the nuances are often lost in IC.. However if it were to be implemented I'm not against it, I just wouldn't use it.

Perfect.

I feel like it would be better to just let people play as they want -- with the annotation that if you want to be from anything other than these 12 lines, you should pick some family that you work for. I.e. a poor farmer who becomes a soldier has to work for ______ (one of those families.) This to avoid lone wolves going around doing random stuff in their own corner of the RP.

Depends on how you want to set up the RP. Maybe two families might work better than 1. Twelve is a lot, thinking about it. You'd barely be able to fill the roster with 1 in every family. 12 is definitely too much.

Yes, I'm already on the thought of lower end magic. The type of "magic" I was thinking is more of the voodoo type in a way. Like a person deep in the mountains or woods that takes up little kids and feeds their toes to royal blood that wants to conceive a child type shit. Is that something that interests people or am I just weird af?

Maybe with family lines and names, maybe do a game of thrones (the five places in the world have a Line each. Each region has its own bastard name Ie, a bastard of the north is called ______ Snow and then have a 2 or 3 contesting families)

Interesting addition yes. My co-gm and I (totally haven't told them yet, but now am forcing) @Buddha were talking saying that what we might do is have 2-3 families that our characters will be from and focused on, But of course there will be outlying people and families as well.

In hindsight 12 is just too many to look after and take care. If we focus on a couple families there will be a better chance for us to all develop our characters and story better.

These two families will be wanting the throne for themselves to get these royal bloods out of power. Whether it be diplomatic or assassination of sorts. Up to you guys and who is your leader.

How much more magic are you thinking? I don't want wizard battles.
I am going to have some unplayable giants, dwarves, dragons, centaurs etc running around but very rare.

Let me put it like this. As we all know interaction is quite literally the lifeblood of an RP and if everyone is off in their own corner doing their own thing there is no interaction = RP death.

Now imagine we have 12 families. You will get 1 character per family.. if even that. So there will be no interaction.

Now imagine 5 families. Okay, so we are closer to having like.. 2-3 per family. Maybe. So that's a little interaction but it gets stale very quick.

Now we have 2 playable families and possibly a royal family that are used for either GM purposes or someone willing to play that. You now have 5-6 characters per family. See, potential interaction surges.

That and creating 12 families as a GM is hell.

For the most part unless your character is with magic itself then I'm not too worried.

@MissCapnCrunch nah basicly with witcher its this. alls witches and sorcers are hot babes because magic. but they are rare because magic is kinda dead. because eleves did all the cool magic shit. basicly magic is rare. almost extinct and is viewed as HERESEY. alchemy is not a problem though.

@MissCapnCrunch what also would be a ghood choice would be that magic seems to be comming back. aka more people are affected by it. plus the witches and sorceres used magic to make themselves hot as fuck not the other weay around.
