Hyperspace. Universes thread their way past each other, infinitely long in the three spatial and one temporal dimensions, but finite in the fifth and sixth. They thread their way through 5-space, twisting this way and that, narrowly avoiding each other in places. In the cosmic soup, a single intelligence drifts through the strands of universes, alone on a vast ship of metal, guts, and spacetime. It plucks from the stream of time what it likes from where and when it likes, gathering beings and parcels of land like fireflies in a jar.

With mighty effort, the engines of its ship gather force, and birth a universe. In this fresh-made universe, the lone intelligence births dust. It transfers energy from collapsing universes to this new one, and then it waits. The new universe explodes violently, expanding infinitely into the first four dimensions, weaving its way through the other universes in the fifth and sixth. It waits. Stars form. Nubile galaxies are riddled with high density radiation; novae explode constantly. Still the lone intelligence waits. Galaxies begin to settle down; they grow dusty with age. Finally the lone intelligence searches for a star, and around it, a planet.

To this planet, it crafts an ocean of fresh water, and then it waits. Life teems on the planet. Then, in the middle of the ocean, it finally unloads its stored cargo - islands appear in flashes of bright red light, perfectly hexagonal. Time resumes for these parcels of land with a bang like a thousand thunders.

A patchwork world is born.

The Island at 5,6:
Jungle. Strange birds chirp as they flit from one exotic plant to another. Heat and humidity are oppressive. In the distance the throaty growl of an Ork Fighta Bomba aggressively draws near. In a deserted concrete and glass building, a computer alarm chirps; radar automatically recognized the approach of an aircraft.

From the sky, the jungle island looms from fog, mountainous to the north and south, gradual plains ending in a sharp cliff face to the east. The jungle is cleared away in the west to form a grassy airstrip. Trails are occasionally visible, snaking through trees. Toward the center of the island, a few cheerfully-colored buildings are visible, and a few concrete tops peek from the trees, as well. As the plane goes further east, it becomes obvious that the plains are not entirely natural. An asphalt and concrete path snakes around the plains, surrounded on either side by a tall wire fence. A river glistens brightly in the sunlight. Then the jungle takes over again, and just as quickly as the aircraft found the island, it disappears back into fog.

The hex at 8,6:
As the aircraft approaches, it becomes clear that something highly unnatural is going on with this island. For one thing, the entire thing appears to be made of cubes. For another, one half of the island is fertile forest while the other half is an abrupt mountain range, made primarily of rock. Cows, pigs, and sheep, and chickens indiscriminately wander both mountain peaks, forest, and sinkholes. A few caves here and there dot the terrain.

The barge at 3,2
An enourmous floating barge. The ship sports a massive glass dome, and underneath, farmland is visible. As the plane approaches, it becomes clear that it is more than just a floating farm (although plenty of crops are visible). Buildings (which appear to extend down to the waterline) dot the landscape, and far below and inbetween them is a series of canals.

To the west, of course, the aircraft won't find anything of interest but ocean. Although, at one point, a particular patch of water looks like the shape of a rebel in a tiny wooden rowboat with a shovel, but it just turns out to be a patch of water after all.

"Haha! Blasted the goddamn freaks right outta this town! Nice job boys." Should Sullivan as he threw the last dead body into the pile. The rest of team was resting atop the tank on the pitcher's mound. All were breathing heavily and covered in various types of blood, their own and that of the horrific monsters they had slain. Casey was right by the coaches side when he threw the last body onto the pile, being the newest on the teams meant he was relegated to such tasks. The rest of the team were enjoying music from a boom box and cold beer from a ice chest.

Slowly the music was being overtaken by static. "Fuckin P.O.S." Muttered Derek as he smacked around the device; trying to make the signal clear again. Suddenly there was a red flash about a mile away in every direction and an ear-shattering boom that caused everyone to clasp their hands down over their ears and collapse to the ground. After everyone's ears stopped ringing the entire team slowly stood up and glanced around. "What the fuck..." Was all that Derek could whisper. All around them the quaint countryside had been changed into water. Everyone was deathly quiet as they stared out into the now expansive abyss. The tranquil and horrifyingly, confusing moment was broken by the sound of a chain saw "IS THIS MORE OF THAT VODOO WITCHCRAFT SHIT!? I SWEAR TO GOD, FIRST THEY DESTROY MY BUS AND NOW THEY'VE SENT US FUCK KNOWS WHERE!" Steve, the mechanic that kept the team's bus in check, was wild eyed with fear and anger. A few of the players rushed over and quickly tried to calm him before he went running off to find trouble. Sullivan was the first to snap out of it and come back to reality. "Stay calm boys, we'll figure this shit out. First we're gonna see how far out our land extends to. Now I need 4 small groups to go North, South, East, and West." Quickly four groups of four appeared in front of Sullivan and he sent each of them off. "Damian! Grab that sniper rifle and set up on the second story of that store, try and see if you can spot what's around us." Damian gave a silent nod and ran off. "The rest of you gather up everything possible and bring it here." The rest of the team gave a "Yes sir!" and ran off.

Helios was gone.
All of the Gurahl had noticed the flash of red, but it was the disappearance of a major Celestine presence that had caused the most panic amongst the River Keepers. Having lived in such close proximity to the spirits and the Celestine of the Umbra for the majority of their lives, the feeling of their presence was something they had largely taken for granted, but the moment it was gone, they noticed. Sure, the sun still hung in the sky, but his spirit was gone. At first, the Gurahl had frozen in horror, watching the sky, waiting, but what they expected didn't come. The sun never died, it's light and warmth continuing to shine down. It didn't make any sense! Without Helios to sustain it, the sun should have died! There should have been darkness, cold and death!
A gathering was hastily called. Ewch i'r Nala quickly established order through a comination of dominance, logic and respect. Yes, Helios was gone and there was a sun in the sky, but Ewch i'r Nala begged them to focus, to feel. That was not their sun. It was not governed by a Celestial. It was nothing more than a ball of gas, heat and fire.
Ewch then drew the River Keeper Tribe's attention to another matter. Luna was still with them, as was Gaia, but the presence of the latter had greatly diminished. The could all smell the moisture on the air, too, greater than it had been the day before. Scouts were sent in out. Two to scout the woodland, two to scout the Umbra. The news the returned with did not help matters.

The were atop a hexagonal island, surrounded by what seemed like an impossible, freshwater ocean. Other islands were visible in the distance, but apart from that, they were alone. The Umbra scouts were even more shaken. The Umbra was uncharacteristically easy to enter and was almost empty, save for the spirits of the trees, river and animals that had apparently followed them over. Not only that, at the edge of the new island, the Umbra just ended. The ocean they found themselves in had no spirit, no essence. Whenever they attempted to push beyond, they were transported back material world!

There was unease and terror at the prospect. Their caerns were still functional, their Gifts still help potence, but they were alone. The River keepers found themselves turning to Ewch i'r Nala for much needed guidance. After retiring to meditate in the Umbra, hoping to commune with Gaia through one of her minor spirits. Several hours later, Ewch i'r Nala returned.

"We are all aware of what has transpired and we are all equally unsure of what to do. I have meditated in the Umbra and I have communed with Gaia, and what I have learned is this. We are no longer on Earth." The rumblings and discontent through the tribe was to be expected, but Ewch continued on, "But that is not to say that this is not our home. Gaia has been contained to this island, as has the Umbra. This world is strange, without spirit, essence or Celstine, but that does not have to be the case! Gaia has assured me that through the building of caerns on the neighboring isles, her presence as well as the presence of the Umbra can be spread. We now find ourselves in a world with neither Wyrd, Weaver or Wyrm! This place can be a new beginning for us, for Gaia. With our help, Gaia can be reborn here and exist in a peace that was unknowable back home!"

The discontent suddenly turned to elation. No Wyrm? No Wraiths? This could be the world they had always strived for, a world of balance and peace! The tribe found themselves untied in purpose and goal as well as enthusiasm. They would be the cradle of a new world, and through them, Gaia could be reborn. Groups were organised, parties of fifteen were chosen. The neighboring isles were barely a mile away. Swimming to them would be an easy feat for any member of the Gurahl. Fifteen made their way toward Hex 6,7 whilst the other fifteen made their way to Hex 8,6.
Their mission was primarily a scouting one. Once there, if they encountered any danger, they were to retreat and report back, otherwise it was hoped that caerns could be constructed on each isle, linking them with the Gurahl Hex, spreading the presence of Gaia and the Umbra. The remaining thirty Gurahl remained on their home Hex, awaiting the return of the parties, with Ewch i'r Nala meditating in the Umbra periodically and attempting contact home or anyone through their radio tower.

High Orbit
Several different passive sensors were registering signals - psi emissions, radio, quantum foam interference, and life detection, to name a few. That, of course, wasn't very surprising to the lone intelligence. A swarm of microsatellites was holding in geostationary orbit, transmitting the data to its ship. They would keep an eye on things while its ship went to the far side of the planet. It could have equipped the satellites with subspace transmitters so that it could receive sensor data on the far side of the planet, but it didn't want the satellites to interfere with its experiment. Besides, it frankly didn't care much. Not that much could happen in 40 minutes, anyway.

Of course, the other reason was that it didn't want its experiment on the far side of the planet to be contaminated by the first one. If the two ever contacted, the results would be interesting, if not catastrophic. Although making one side of the planet ocean and the other land was a bit much. If the lone intelligence had a mouth, it would have chuckled.

A chicken blindly wandered to and fro, stopping to cluck inanely. It had wandered some distance from its flock. Without warning, the chicken lept off of a very steep hillside. Reflexively, it flapped its wings, gradually and gently descending into the water. It splashed down directly in front of 15 massive bears (well, they weren't precisely bears).

They were greeted with a sight that looked something like this:

With nothing of interest but miles upon miles of ocean to be seen to the west, the Kommando-filled fighta bomba that was sent westward turns back and heads back towards home. Two days had yet to pass, however it was obvious that nothing of value was this way. So the ten returned home, wondering what punishment they might receive for failing to find anything.

To the East, the Orks had the opposite problem. There seemed to be an overabundance of land to explore. The scouts noted the variety of land, which seemed to change every mile or so, and each environment was shaped in a perfect hexogen. This world was like nothing the Kommandos had ever seen. The Orks began to argue among themselves about where they should land. The moon-like crater land they spotted in the north? The jungle which hinted at the presence of intelligent life? Perhaps the open field with a road that led to nowhere? Or the land formed of cubes? The argument quickly turned to a constant of blows as the Orks showed their savagery in an attempt to gain control of the situation for themselves. The fight was quick yet fierce. Eventually, the Kommando nob was able to knock enough heads together to get his boyz to listen up. The nob decided that they would land on the field, explore a bit, and then mount up and explore the other three.

With a decision made, the Fighta-Bomba stopped floating above the ocean and took off to the west back towards the plains terrain. After a short amount of time, the disturbingly loud sound of the Orkish aircraft flying overhead the baseball field could be heard over the entire hex. The Fighta-Bomma slowed down to a stop over the roadway, descending down and landing with a loud thud against the concrete. The back of the plane opened, and ten eight feet tall green monsters in armor carrying machine guns ran out, creating a defensive circle around their aircraft.”Snobz, Rag, Toof! ‘Ead toward ‘tat buildin’ over there, sees what ya can scavenge!” The nob shouted, and three Kommandos stomped off in the direction of the lone building in sight.”The rest of ya, follow me! Wez is gonna sees what ‘tat is over ‘ere.” The Seven remaining commandos began to move towards the baseball diamond.

-The Adventures of Barry, at Hex 5’6-

“GAAAAAAAAAAAH!”

Barry screamed at the top of his lungs as the world was plunged into darkness. The red light and the massive boom from seconds earlier had subsided, and Barry found himself in the middle of a jungle. He shouldn’t be in a jungle, though. He had been in the thick of a corrupted zone, not anywhere near the local jungle biome. Something was terribly wrong, and Barry wanted to know what. The adventurer jumped up and looked around. There was fog everywhere, as well as many plants that Barry didn’t recognize. This was definitely not his jungle. Barry drew his sword and obsidian shield, and began to slowly move through the brush in a randomly chosen direction. He silently prayed that he wouldn’t encounter anything different from the usual monsters of the jungle. He could handle some angry plants and oversized hornets. Barry whipped his head around as he heard a roar in the distance. This place was getting to him.

6,5; Perfection Valley

Vibrations. Many vibrations, moving toward the not-stones on the surface. Digs Vigorously remembered how most of the other broodlings had wandered off. Something... other... in Digs Vigorously's heart stirred. She'd felt it once before. It was a good feeling. But the remaining broodlings were moving quickly, and she had to, also. Her experience whispered in her ear: don't go for the center ones; strike the edges; strike the wanderers. So she wouldn't strike first after all, but she'd eat a meal. And the hunger in her stomach could subside, for now. She rumbled off toward the edge of the vibrations.

A broodling erupted into the upper void, underneath a vibration, trying to swallow it whole. Another stayed beneath the void, sending tentacles, searching for the vibration. The vibrations were soft; it reminded Digs Vigorously of small meals in her past. So soft that the first broodling missed, and fell back into the soft soil. Maybe the meal wouldn't be so filling after all. She sensed stronger vibrations above her. The food was moving, doing something. It wasn't moving very fast, nor chaotically. Her heart stirred again. This time it was a bad feeling. She stayed in the dirt, waiting.
6,4: Arizona Red Zone, Tiberium field 11-3

The green crystal had embedded itself into the earth, spreading tendrils throughout, slowly exoforming the hex. Given time, it would exoform the entire planet, transforming matter into more of itself. A byproduct of the process was the transportation of valuable subsurface minerals into the crystalline structure. Another byproduct was noxious gas, in reality millions of airborne tiberium particles, with the capability to infect living matter.

It was this very gas that infected the workers harvesting the crystal. No symptoms show at first, but in a day's time, bright green veins will show through the skin, infecting blood, corrupting machine, mutating tissue.

The Trolls were no strangers to new worlds, for they were the conquerors of many; however, they usually had to have travelled there first.

The Trolls on the little patch that was once attached to Alternia was now in the middle of a vast blue sea. Needless to say, the shimmering blue ocean was particularly upsetting. That shine meant that there was sunlight, and light was not a good thing for the nocturnal Trolls, and though the dark clouds kept the sunlight out, it was serious impediment for new conquest.

But conquest of what? All there was for miles was a vast ocean, no land to take in sight. You would think that this meant conquest was over. You would be wrong, for below, hundreds of Sea Dwelling Trolls were ready to scout, looking for any sapient species to conquer, and any others to parasite for reproduction. If an empire was to be raised, children would need to be reared and land must be colonized. Lucky for the new trolls, they were all of the conquering age, about 9 solar sweeps, or 21 human years. They were scheduled to be sent to the frontlines of a conquest tomorrow, but this would serve them well enough. Also in their company was the Empress herself, Her Imperial Condescension. Normally, she wouldn't be staying on a frontline world, but she had no way of getting back. No worries though, her network of loyal Highbloods and imperial drones would make sure no one was aware she was even gone.

As the Lone Intelligence's ship orbited back to the near side of Patchwork, a small black warning light lit up on a black console. The label, also in black, read "Code Error, see Manual". The Lone Intelligence activated several computer screens and brought out the manual. Several thousand error flags had been thrown. It tapped a few icons on the computer screen, and went back to quietly monitoring the situation on the planet below.

As Axe Cop was in mid-stride, a soft azure glow permeated the air of the hex. Time crawled to a halt inside the hex. Any object entering the hex would similarly be frozen in time.
