Why are you playing SwordArt Online? Dominik has spent a large portion of his retired life making a "living" for himself through MMOs such as EVE and World of Warcraft. Due to his interest in JRPGs, plus the uniqueness of virtual reality, Dominik was enthralled by the idea of Sword Art Online and pulled every contact he could in order to get into the beta test.
Life Prior to Playing SwordArt: An average childhood led to an extraordinary college experience for Dominik, where he was blown away by everything he could study. Pragmatism won out over his primary studies, leading him to focus on technology and market subjects. He enjoyed learning languages, and after four years he had mastered Japanese and English and begun studying Korean and Chinese - all pragmatic choices, as they were the languages spoken by the nearest countries. He also took up art, music, and writing, though all three turned out to be failures; somehow the subjects just never clicked for him. History only mildly interested him, as he was interested in the way the world was headed, so he instead looked into physics and chemistry.
After graduating with honors, Dominik immediately set about putting together a startup technological marketing firm. At the time, no investors were willing to give him money, so he looked into shadier areas to get funding. This turned out to be his biggest mistake. A shady venture capitalist came to him with an offer that was far too good to be true and he eagerly accepted. Two months later, though, he found himself almost literally strangled by the strings attached to the deal. He was locked in a crate and thrown into a river for not fulfilling a hidden clause in the deal. Dominik didn't give up, though, struggling until eventually he knocked loose a poorly nailed board with his back - scarring himself in the process - and made it to safety.
Years later, he managed to break through, not only succeeding in building his startup but bringing it into multi-billion-dollar revenue, due in large part to an internet business boom. A large marketing conglomerate bought the company from him for three times its value, allowing him to retire at age 32. Since then he has spent his "working" time learning and gaming; his "free" time has taken him to every bar and club in all of Vladivostok.
Life Since Playing SwordArt: His experience as a beta tester allowed him to be confident in heading straight to the fields to quest and grind. He has helped many an inexperienced player, saving and teaching them how to fight.
Darkest Secret: Some under-the-table deals that were made to make his company worth so much so quickly.
