The rebellion was about something completely different though, and Homeworkd seems more totalitarian then anything else, where the government is the end all of everything, and anyone who strays from the path is either redirected back or crushed. And again, it's just not enough of a reason to put any substantial amount of resource to make better versions of a gem that isn't meant yo be that way. Not only that, but I doubt that would actually improve morale. Unlike humans, where a person can become great based on merit, Gems are born for a certain process. If you make a stronger version of a gem, it's just really shallow attempt to make the weak gens feel included, instead of congratulating a normal gem that has shown good work in their proposed field.

i think her looking bigger in pictures was just her way of showing she was captain or more to make Steven realize this without speak since they all looked the same when she met with her crew. She needed a way to represent herself the way he needed her to be since to give him an explaination on past events

I guess my biggest issue with how the Gem society is run is, why give every Gem free will? As a dominating galactic power, I'd personally get rid of it as much as I could unless it was absolutely necessary.

People are more compliant when they believe they are having free will. If you think about it they don't have as much as they think. They are stuck to one class and made to believe they can be nothing more than what they are. That there are no possiblities for a different outcome.

Look at Peridot for example.
She was told that next generation Peridot's and or other lower gems did not have powers and thus they needed tech. She never even tried to see if she did indeed have a power because it was just how it was in her eyes. She didn't even entertain the idea that she should try until Amythest and Steven said that she could do transformation of she just tried hard enough and thus her tech powers were discovered.

I dunno, I just think it would have been easier to make them all mindless drones loyal only to the Diamonds. Blugh, I'm just... blegh. I feel like debating my points but I can't do it intelligently, so I just degenerate into a grumbling Salt Elemental.

Lol, I am not saying your idea wouldn't be smarter but I think if they could do that then they would have done that. I think it is impossible to control how they come out so instead they build invisible walls that makes the Gem feel free but in fact they are not living up to all they could be.

Free Will

I believe the Gems are given their free will in order to work more efficiently. Sure, a mindless drone would have consistent results across the board, but that would be their greatest weakness: consistency.

When one is stagnant in the heat of battle, using the same moves and tactics every single time, the enemy could start to read their movements, predict them because it is almost guaranteed that they would use them, and diminish the drone's possibility of success immensely as the battle continues.

A gem with free will might not be able to succeed in their task as much as a drone, but they are more flexible, capable of thinking for themselves, to get past the blockage in their path through multiple means instead of the only path in a program. A free thinking gem could be unpredictable, fight with desperation and concoct tactics that no "efficient drone" could ever dream of executing for the sake of their goals.

That's my thought on the issue, anyway. Take it as you will *shrug*

I don't think that the Diamonds would do that. For one, I sincerely believe that Yellow Diamond is about as smart/logical/materialistic as a 3rd grader, and two, what Akaya+ianzerep(do you have something else we could call you?) said.
Example: If they could control how gems came out, Emeralds would be a lot less insane, but still diverse in power.
