I figured since most of us write long-as-fuck posts and obviously read, there should be an official Book Club/What are you reading thread.

Sorry it's not all glamorous with headers and shit, but you get the gist, right? Pretty much talk about books you have read(and what you liked/loved/hated about them), books you are currently reading(and what you like/love/hate about them), and books you want to read that you haven't gotten a chance to read or are coming out soon that you have already preordered, and are waiting impatiently at your door for them to arrive(and what you're looking forward to about them).

This also can double as a Book Recommendation thread, too.

Pretty much, we are talking about books. I feel like, for keeping things in order, only novels will be discussed here. I'm sure someone will make a Comic Book/Manga thread at some point. xD

Anyways! Discuss away, fellow bookworms. :3

Drunk? No.

If you said I was high, then I would be more likely to believe you.

And why would I say that? You're obviously drug-free.

I'm currently reading "Gone For Good". It's a mystery murder with an interesting set-up, but it's becoming more and more clear that the plot has no idea what it wants to be. Nonetheless, I'm enjoying it so far.

Reading the Schooled in Magic series by Christopher Nutall- ten books and I'm loving every single one.

The gist of it-
Modern-day girl of an abusive family gets snatched by interdimensional beings acting on the whims of another universe's powerful being- a Necromancer of the Unnamed Lands. The Necromancer, Shadye, snatched her because he wanted a Child of Destiny, someone who he could use to influence great changes in the world, in his favor (the girl's mother was named Destiny). A powerful, but not by any means equal to Shadye, "Lone Power" magician by the name of Void saves her, and deposits her at the largest magical academy. Ten books of shenanigans begin- but seriously, this is a really in-depth book. It isn't just 'because magic', it's got some real thought-out crap and some real loopy shiz. Interesting characters, amazing writing.

Just got done reading American Gods per suggestion of a friend. It was absolutely amazing and one of the best books I've read in a while. Really makes you think.

They're adapting it into a TV series. Supposed to come out next year I think.

Oh man, threads like these make me sad. Used to read about 3-4 books per month, now I barely have time for 1 or so in 2 months :(

Anyway, I recently finished Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson. Well, half-finished, because I just couldn't bring myself to keep reading this one. I enjoyed parts of Deadhouse Gates and Gardens of the Moon, but after upwards of 2,000 pages I couldn't relate to the world, to the story or to most of the characters. Shame, I kept reading/hearing very good things about the Malazan series, though at this point I can't see what people found in it. Erikson's writing style didn't grab me and apart from an overbearing sense of nihilism I didn't get anything out of the books. Also while I love weird stuff, his setting is so over the top that I can't identify with it in any way.

I'm currently planning on getting some of Robin Hobb's books, her Farseer Trilogy has gotten lots of praise and I've been wanting to read it for quite some time now. Meanwhile, I've got my hands on Uprooted by Naomi Novik, which won the 2016 Nebula Award for Best Novel so I'm hoping it's good.

I may or may not be obsessively keeping tab on any of the show's progress, haha. Some of my favorite actors have been cast, so high hopes for the upcoming show.
