Ever join a roleplay and then get left in the dust because the GM hasn't put a limit on speedposting or is a speedposter themselves? It really sucks when you invest time into a CS and feel totally excited to wake up the next morning and see that the IC is 3 pages in.

I get that some GM's let speedposters run free because they want to keep up the interest but :(

I was all pumped for this awesome Tokyo Ghoul RP. The story seemed rich, the GMs were interesting, the Characters created were great... and then the posting started. Within 3 hours there was 20 posts and I hadn't even posted yet. The GM posted several times as well which didn't help. The most annoying aspect was that these were advanced style posts with over 5,000 characters per post.

I dropped it and told the GM off for basically forcing me out of the RP because I couldn't keep up. I got a pretty bland response about how it's not their fault and in the end a small handful of us left.

In my view, speed posting has it's place but if you offer a roleplay that is going to have a decent turnout and are expecting highly detailed post, then you need to keep in consideration that some players have lives outside the internet. It's a quick way to kill any roleplay if you ask me.

I think it comes down to needing to find the right balance and adjusting throughout the Rp. All the Rps I gm start off with a basic minimal 2 posts between your last post for a character. Now, that usually goes well and keeps a decent speed without being completely overwhelming.

Now if things start to get too fast, I'll make an adjustment to up the minimal to 3, 4, or 5. (Temporarily) Tag everyone and announce it in the ooc. When things slow down I will lower it back to 2.

@Mateotis That really just boils down to experience and getting in the zone. Sometimes it takes me hours to form a post that is barely 2 paragraphs, sometimes I can easily crank out 10k+ character posts in under an hour.

Idk how that came to be your fault? It's not like you were MIA for two days or more. If it's speeding between two people then they should consider 1x1, or else a nice "speedpost is valued" tag in their intcheck.

This is like being in a circle of friends at a diner, and everyone talks like machine guns while those that need a few seconds to formulate an approach = incompetent or slow or SOMETHING.

When two players have the spark to post far more quickly than the rest, they should use a collab.

And a good GM should make sure that the players don't outpace each other. For our own RPs we hold to a simple rule: RL first.

If it takes some players longer to write than others, then so be it.

If it's just 2-3 players going in quick succession, turn it into a collab.

Honestly, if you're in Casual or Advanced, you should not be speed posting, period. Everyone should be given a chance to post, say by enforcing general posting rotations or giving them a chance to post when they say they're going to, for instance.

I actually quit roleplaying for years because the forum I was on turned into nothing but speed posting. Like others said, you can't keep up with dozens of posts a single night. Hell, most of us have lives.

I have mixed feelings about this topic.

I enjoy Roleplay hype and think that speed-posting can be done appropriately especially, say, if the Roleplay is dying or something along those lines. Generally speaking, though, I make rules against speed-posting when I'm GMing a Roleplay. Aside from my one Guildfall Roleplay, I've never had a problem with speed-posting outside of Free (which is where it's encouraged). In Guildfall, however, I had some people post three or four posts in a day when I asked them to slow down to let others catch up. . and then their posts would go up to five. So that was fun.

Oh fuck, Guildfall. I wanted to play in that, but then people posted a shit load and needed to drop it.

Speed posting is good if everyone is involved with it, but if you leave other players out of the loop then it's an issue. At the start of an RP you can't really avoid the intial first page blitz, so I'll always turn a blind eye to that, but past that point you should really give everyone a chance.

Exactly what I mean. That's the only time in recent memory that I had a problem with speed-posting.
