Jacob ‘Jake’ Sharner
Age:
26
Gender:
Male
Height:
160 cms // 5'3"
Weight:
55 kgs // 121 lbs
Appearance:
Jake is of very short stature for a man of his age. Being appropriately—but not unhealthily—skinny as well and lacking any real muscle, physical strength is not his forte. Neither does he consider his appearance to be worthy of any praise, though there were undeniably some who called him ‘cute’ before.
Most of the times he wears formal clothing or the default Institute attire, the biggest reason for which is that he hates having to put together a decent-looking—or rather, one that does not look atrocious—outfit every single day.
There is a miniature and lightweight device attached to the rim of his glasses at his left eye, created by himself. Currently it is just a framework and serves little more than a barely visible decoration, but one day he hopes that it can be upgraded to be capable of enhancing his sight in ways a normal pair of glasses cannot.
Likes:
Practical applications of any kind of research, fascinating theories and models, progress, a good challenging puzzle, moments of solitude, open-minded people, cool robots, energetic music, video games
Dislikes:
Overly long and descriptive research papers (especially if he has to read them), people who value emotions above rational thought, cocky and/or stubborn people unwilling to accept others' truths, sappy soap operas, buzzing crowds (after a certain extent)
Party Trick: Due to his ability to think and speak at incredible speeds, Jake can perform even the trickiest rap songs flawlessly (a skill he very rarely acknowledges, much less shows).
Profession:
Associate Research Scientist in the field of Computer Science and Robotics at the Shine City Science Institute and Research Centre
Personality:
Jake is a very excitable person, quick to gain attention and easy to impress. He can get very passionate about the newest developments in research and more importantly, in practice, especially in his own field of work. This comes with a fleeting attention span which means that he often jumps between projects and rarely finishes anything. He tries to make up for this sometimes irritating behaviour with kindness and loyalty towards his fellow scientists and co-workers. He rarely approaches others without a strong reason to do so, but can be a very pleasant conversation partner when the talk is about topics he is knowledgeable about.
Although his full potential has seldom been realised yet, it has been shown time and time again that when he does work on something seriously, he is capable of great results. He has both the eye and the mind for applied computer science and electrical engineering.
Biography:
Ever since he was a little kid, Jacob Sharner was known as a generally insufferable brat with sparks of genius shining up in him every now and then. His rather selective memory and incapability to stay at one place for too long gave plenty of headaches to his—otherwise lovely and caring—parents who took him to a variety of examinations and tests screening for mental illnesses ranging from autism to ADHD. At the end, it turned out that he had nothing of the sort, but was simply like that as a person. Despite this, they tried to temper his extremities—to various degrees of success.
In high school, it was his ‘sparks of genius’ that carried him through the years. He has always had an interest in mechanical engineering—started by binging on mecha cartoons and animes in his earlier years—, he won numerous design competitions in this time which helped keep his grades afloat from the appropriate subjects. The teachers, aptly, likened him to the schematics of a revolutionary machine: incredible potential, but a massive effort required to make it a reality.
Unfortunately for him, not many places were willing to make the effort. He got himself reasonably together in university—where he only made it to thanks to a generous recommendation by the principal and the staff—, strengthening his memory and taking up meditation to help him focus. He graduated without a hitch, but the hardest part of his life had only just begun: finding a workplace that would take a person such as him in.
The stars finally smiled on him after a couple years of part-time jobs and low-pay work. The S.C.S Institute in the nearby Shine City extended him an offer to put his skills to good use at them full-time. With an accepting environment to his faults and the possibility to move up the academy hierarchy, it was all Jake could have hoped for. He accepted it without a second thought and moved to Shine City where the Institute provided him with a small apartment to live in just like the rest of the scientists and professors working there.
Life has been great to Jacob Sharner since that. Alongside the hard but rewarding work, he managed to build up some social life and presence in the city. It was now up to him and him only to continue this development and finally reach the life he has always dreamed of.
