RPGC WEEKEND EDITION #1: AWAKENING!
Welcome one, welcome all!
As you may have noticed, this is not a full RPGC, hence the qualifier βWeekend Edition.β This is a new thing, a random 2:00 AM brainchild. I have no idea if this new thing will work or even become a real thing, but we shall see.
The way this is going to work is as follows:
A prompt and a format of writing will be issued. β these are mandatory.
Authors will have two days to write. β entries will be posted when I wake up on the 19th.
All entries received by the morning of the 19th will be posted to a discussion thread. β it is encouraged for writers to comment and critique one anotherβs work.
On the morning of the 20th, trophies will be awarded to all who have captured the theme in the proper format. β This will constitute the end of the contest, and RPGC #12 will begin.
A special trophy may also be conferred upon one user, if they have demonstrated exemplary form and/or function in their writing. This will be at the discretion of the contest staff.
So now that thatβs out of the way. The prompt will be...
The entry format will be
See below for further information.
AWAKENING.
The entry format will be
SHAKESPEAREAN SONNET.
See below for further information.
Regarding the themeβ¦
For this contest you will write an entry to do with an awakening. What, exactly, awakens is entirely up to you. For amongst all beings β be them of gods, beasts, or men -- one thing is certain: There is an awakening. Every pair of eyes opens to the dawn; every thought, every idea has a root. Every fire of war is kindled from a single action. Take whatever flame, whatever spark, whatever ideal you would like, and give it a breath of life.
Regarding the formatβ¦
For this contest you will write a Shakespearean sonnet. For those unfamiliar with the terminology this is the more βtraditionalβ form of sonnet β four alternating quatrains and a couplet. Traditionally these are written in iambic pentameter, though the judging panel will be somewhat less picky about reading for stress, so long as the poem has some semblance of flow. Ten syllables a line. Exceptions can be made for style but it is rather rare in the source material, so do make sure it actually adds something.
