The Academy: A School for Metahumans
The Education Center for Advance Youths (ECAY or The Academy for short) is home to all manner of gifted children and young adults between the ages of fifteen and twenty-one. The school building itself sits in Virginia near Charlottesville. The area experiences long growing seasons and relatively mild climates. Built only a few miles away from the town of Bloomsburg, an older farming town which has quickly becoming a quiet relic of the east coast's once populace farming industry.
The town itself is home to a few general shops, antique shops, and other varied buildings necessary buildings within the limits of the town. The town also has its own normal school from grade school through high school. The majority of the teachers and support staff at the Academy live in and around Bloomsburg in the and on the various homes which have sporadically popped up around the town. The town also is the site of a small newer housing division for the small community of newer, younger families that have moved to the area with the reopening of a new mine just on the outside of the town.
The mine which has recently reopened was purchased and opened by a small time businessman by the name of Allen Taylor. An area resident during his childhood the Ivy League educated man has come home to make a small fortune and bring new life to the quite town. The influx of workers and their families have increased the number of people in Bloomsburg and as a result the town does has a small nightlife and some recreation for the students of the Academy.
The Academy itself is a large grey stone three story building surrounded by a low stone wall with carefully cultivated grounds around it. The front gate of the academy is carefully cultivated ivy over wrought iron and sports a crane on a broad field of lilies which appears on a large crest in the center of the gate. From the outside of the gate a sign indicates this to be Education Center for Advanced Youths.
From the inside the the ground floor includes the teacher dorms for those who stay on campus, this floor also includes the, offices, main lobby, and lunch cafeteria. The second story is the female dorms kitchen and dining area. The third story is the male's dorms, kitchen and dining area. The students are expressly prohibited from being in the teachers dormitories as well as in the opposite genders rooms after quiet hours. The first and second basement floors are devoted largely to classrooms for the ordinary classes. The third basement floor is used for detention equipped for dampening the abilities of the students. Additionally the detention area of the academy has a calming effect upon students held there. The bottom floors of the academy are one large room designed to function as a training and gym hall for the students as its walls are for all intensive purposes indestructible. There is another building adjoining the main academy building with two floors which is the academy's library and study hall; within the library all powers are suppressed for the safety of the material kept in the library.
The usual course of the day for students at the Academy starts with morning classes with their assigned class mates. The Academy has three class groups which rotate through classes throughout the day and students will be assigned to one of the three class groups. After morning classes students have gym where they can train and practice with their abilities. Following this is a break for lunch and recovery before they resume classes until 3 o’clock when students are free to study, roam the grounds, or even go into town.
Weekends are for students to enjoy on their own; they are allowed to go into town, use the gym or make use of the other facilities within the academy. Students who have received detention are not allowed off of academy grounds on the weekends.
For the most part this roleplay will center on the Gym class in the middle of the day, the students free time, and any field trips (I.E. practical uses of one’s powers in the field). Students can submit their own requests for field assignments but they will be supervised by the ECAY Taskforce. Students will generally only have one maybe two field trips per semester no more than three in a year. This is an opportunity to expand on personal story hooks for your characters and an opportunity to drive the story forward.
