Forewarning: This roleplay is only for those who can post at least a paragraph and a half per post if the situation provides enough content to do so. Meaning characterization per post is required. In other words high casual roleplay warning. Also while extremely similar to the actual plot of Vesperia and employing most of the cities in game it will not be a carbon copy of the game.

Setting of the story

The people of Terca Lumireis have come to rely on blastia, an ancient civilization's technology with a wide array of capabilities such as providing water, powering ships, or creating barriers around major cities and towns to protect them from monsters. The Imperial Knights and guild members also use bodhi blastia to enhance their abilities in combat. The blastia, created by the elf-like Krityans, are fueled by a substance called aer that lends its power to the blastia's ability, but can be fatal to humans in large concentrations. The area of the land are split into normally two different factions: One led by the Empire and their Emperor/Empress whom are backed by their council and are guarded by their Imperial Knights led by Knight commandant Hardin Expos and his brigade The Knightly Guardians.

Below them are the Knight Commanders who lead separate divisions each with their own colors and styles. Below them are lieutenants and below them are the normal knights. They keep order in the empire and are normally at odds with monsters. They're also opposed by The Guilds, individuals whom have opposed the empire and have declared their laws pointless or simply unjust. Some harbor grudges, others are in it for the money but the guild is led by the Don of Dahngrest and the Duce of Nordopolica individually. Most guilds however tend to follow the Don of Dahngrest and the Union that backs it whom are the five major guilds. Those include Blazing Glory, a group of hunters who exist to hunt for monsters and other challenges of the world, Ancient Salvation, a group dedicated to the study and excavation of ancient secrets and ruins, The Future's Fortune, a group of well paid mercenaries and merchants whom seek wealth above all else, Bolden Blades, a group of high class smiths with legendary abilities a the smithy, and Torkstania whom are headed by the Don and are ruthless warriors and tacticians whom have kept the city itself independent.
Quick note: The Great War ended thirty years ago and there has been a general uneasy peace between the two factions. Since then there has been a change of leadership on the throne of the empire as a new emperor has descended since then.
This story starts one day in the continent of Ilyccia, at Imperial Capital of Zaphias. It is a rather hot and steaming day in the city and many are complaining about hoodlums whom are going about the noble sector breaking the blastia or forcing repairs to be made. Thieves have been nothing but a small nuisance to the imperial knights and have been considered nothing but pains at the most. But since the blastia are now being threatened the groups in the upper class the knights have been cracking down unusually hard on the peoples. However in the lower district there have been cases of blastia being stolen as well which is usual given the area is so closely knit together and thieves have little to gain from robbing them. This has caused quite the conundrum as the knights can't blame the lower sector but can't rule some of them out. Still the nobles blame the lower sector but most of the knights refuse to look down there without evidence since the lower sector itself is in trouble. Regardless of the blastia situation the majority of the people in the city are as usual pedaling goods and making their livings as they usually do. However something looms on the horizon that will not bode well for the imperials....

1. No high level characters off the bat this will be sort of like a dungeons and dragons sort of setting where the farther we go the stronger we get. Most of us will be using rather poor or plain weapons that are common. Like in the game you can buy and gain weapons later.
2. You may not be a lieutenant or higher rank if you're a member of the imperial knights. Similar rules apply to the Guilds whom will only have newer members out. Most players are encouraged to be simple mercenaries for hire or normal citizens with some form of combat skill or magic skill in the city we start at.
3. GM's word is law what I say goes if you don't like what I have to say you're free to leave.
4. Everyone must have a Bodhi blastia of some sort if you want to use artes. If you don't start with one you should gain one rather quickly in the start of the roleplay.
5. All basic roleplay rules apply
6. All side plots must be brought to me I don't want to go off on some unexpected tangent without warning.

Personality: Mutsu is a honest and respecting man who hates to break the law and has shown a heavy disdain for those he views as villains. He is not a big fan of the guilds and has shown a clear intent on siding with the empire over the guilds at many times but is not unfair towards guild members when it matters, He loves a good story and loves to hear of heroes come and gone wanting to live up to their example and surpass them if possible. He has a dislike of technological things finding the sort of thing to be more of the mage's line of work than a soldier's. He has trouble breaking rules unless he has to and even then he feels bad about doing so. He doesn't have a impulsive desire to help people but he tends to want to try at the very least to do what he can. He prides himself in being a soldier worth his family's legacy. He hates camping and especially hates monsters to a hair raising degree. While he enjoys a good challenge he hates being completely shown up by someone better than himself and tends to brood afterward though he does acknowledge when he is wrong or has lost a fair fight. He tends to be a shy person to women as well never really interacting with any outside of the knights.

Demon Artes:
Demon Fang: When the Demon Fang arte is used, the character launches a ground projectile towards a target. This arte is useful for melee characters who need to stay away from enemies temporarily and damage them from a distance, while waiting for healing or support from an ally. However, this arte can travel only along the ground.
Screaming Fist: An Artes backed punch capable of stunning force leaving the enemy open to the attack. The attack is unable to be canceled until it is finished leaving the opponent open to attack.
Biography: Mutsu was born on a dark cloudy night to a sell sword father who was a great monster hunter who fought for the empire but refused to give up his imperial citizenship to become a member of a guild and a mother who was a member of a well known brigade known as the Erin Brigade. He was born into a matrilineal family and took his mother's last name not his father's which was because his mother was from a more influential family. He was raised in the lower sector for the first couple of years in his life due to his uncle having a falling out with his father and his mother being to far away to convince his uncle to take him back. However that was only during his infant years and he hardly remembers what it was like back then. His uncle, Erin Honda, however never truly hated his nephew in fact he always wanted to accept the boy into his own house but his father refused to do so wanting to raise the boy himself. Though his father wasn't the best one he did his best to take care of his son in the lower quarter but a couple of years later Mutsu's mother returned and convinced his uncle and his father to get along so the boy could be raised in the upper section of the city. His father returned to hunting monsters for clients soon after and his uncle and mother helped raise the boy in the capital. Mutsu's earliest memories were that of learning etiquette and noble lessons along with learning how to fight, which he excelled at in the form of shields and swords while maintaining decency with a spear and axe. His uncle drove him relentlessly but Mutsu loved him all the same for being a kind man who loved to tell jokes. His mother often read him stories of great warriors and knights. And in fact he became a beloved friend of many of the Erin Brigade's members and was often around older men and women who loved him dearly. However he never forgot one day when he and his uncle went hiking just barely outside of the barrier and he was attacked by a low level monster but was nearly crippled if it were not for his uncle and his returning father. He developed a hatred for monsters thinking them all ravenous beasts which his father's words didn't help in the least as he regaled his son of the dangers he had seen in his life time. His uncle, however told him not to take him anything a face value anyone who rushes into something risks death. His mother babied her son for a decent time afterward until his grand father told his mother to stop doing so. His grand father was an exceedingly wealthy man whom taught him respect in it's most basic form and it has stuck with him even until his adult life. Deciding he'd rather stay in the city and become a weapon smith instead of a knight, whom he had found not to be his calling, and he decided to spend some time in the lower quarter. His father was well known in the lower section and the young Mutsu found many would be friends down there and while he didn't get off to a great start with all of them he loves them all dearly. One day a Bodhi blastia was sent to him by his grand father and Mutsu refuses to acknowledge questions about it's previous owner. Mutsu has dedicated his life to helping the imperial citizens of the imperial city but he secretly has started to lust for adventure.

I'm familiar with ToV so I'd be able to sign up. I have a couple of female twins in mind that I once made for an original Tales-based story. Before I sign up though, I'm a little confused about something. Is this supposed to be an alternate universe to the actual game, or is it set 20 years after the events of ToV?

If it's 20 years after the game, I have some issues with the storyline. In the ending,


Assuming this story is a sequel to ToV, can you explain this inconsistency?

It is an alternate universe more or less. Same set up no canon characters. Anything major from the plot's characters is not relevant since they're non-existent.

Okay, so it's an alternate universe without any of the main characters. I've got my CSs for the twins now. I wasn't sure if you wanted the Japanese names for the warrior artes, so I added them.

Weapon Type: reverse-grip dagger or sword; her Bodhi blastia is a bracelet on her right wrist
Artes:
Demon Fang (Majinken) – a common ground projectile used among warriors. Krile compensates by first slashing up to create the projectile, then twirling the sword in her hand to return it to its regular position
Fang Blade (Sougazan) – Krile twirls left for the first slash, then does another twirl before following with an uppercut slash – adds a backwards somersault to regain her balance
Crane Flight (Tsurukouzan) – an original move where she performs a three-step spinning dance, striking the enemy three times with her sword, also sidestepping by 90 degrees on the final step

Biography: Krita’s younger identical twin sister, although born only five minutes later. They were born in Capua Nor to a fisherman and a housewife. One day 5 years ago, the town was suffering from a shortage of fish due to a massive storm. Their father braved the storm to find fish, but lost his life when his boat capsized. Their mother later found out that the town’s magistrate forced their father to go out, or else his family would have been sold. Distraught, their mother refused to come out of her room. The twins did their best to care for her, but she died from starvation.

The twins went to the orphanage in Capua Torim for a couple of years, but quickly left and wandered Terca Lumireis as freelancers and self-sustaining survivors, frequently making money by selling materials to synthesis shops. They have turned their backs to the Empire due to their parents’ deaths and that no one in the Empire would listen to them, but they didn’t feel compelled to form a guild in Dahngrest due to the constricting rules. They have merely wandered from town to town looking for work and hunting animals.

Although it looks like Krita is taking care of Krile, in reality it’s the opposite. Krile has remained level-headed despite their circumstances, frequently needing to calm her sister down whenever she gets too angry or bitter. Unfortunately, because Krile is so focused on taking care of Krita, she doesn’t devote much to herself, nor does she ask for anything in return. This may lead to her not taking care of her health, and working to the point of exhaustion.

In battle, Krile uses a dagger or sword held in the reverse grip fashion, and specializes in close-range combat using her unusual technique that emphasizes grace over strength. She was inspired by the tales of a nameless swordswoman who used the same technique; the swordswoman was slowly dying and devoted the rest of life to helping others, all while folding 1000 origami cranes to wish for a cure to her illness so others will not suffer. She died at 644 paper cranes, so those she saved folded the remaining cranes and made the same wish she wanted at her memorial. Krile is interested in finding manuals that expand this style further. The move she made up - Crane Flight - is based upon the first manual she read as a child.

Biography: Krile’s older identical twin sister. Refer to Krile’s biography for backstory. As the pair travels the world for materials to sell, Krita is adamant in saying that she is taking care of Krile, but she is really the one who needs emotional stability. In battle, Krita functions as a mage, using wands and staves to help with concentration. She fancies herself a nature-based mage, specializing in earth and healing artes.

NOTE: Grave doesn't appear in ToV, so I had to make up the incantation.

I'll allow you to keep demon fang but guardian field seems like a move that a mage would use. Also keep in mind we're starting in the imperial capital so just a heads up incase you sped past it. As for Krita I'll allow you to keep healing artes but you need to remove earth or wind having a three type master mage seems a bit much. Also one more thing mages in this story like in the name need a charge time for all but minor spells. Incantations play a part all the same.

Actually guardian field is a sword only Arte though I agree it should be removed ATM cause its a later game Arte. Usually arcane if I remember correctly...

Removed Guardian Field, plus Grave and Wind Blade for now. I'll figure out what I want Krita to use as well as add the traditional incantations. I still want her to be a healer and nature-based mage though.

Alright thanks for the tip Demous I apologize I'm a rather noob when it comes to Tales games. Nature is fine but multiple types is a bit much. Rita only uses fire and water esk types from what I've seen from here for example. A mage later will singularly specialize in water but more on that when it happens.

Personality: She is laid back and carefree but she becomes very motivated when it comes to those she cares about. She has a general dislike for the empire as she has been raises in Nordopolica and other guild controlled locations for most of her life and most of her experiences with the Imperial Knights haven't generally been peaceful. Despite this she doesn't automatically hate the Knights she meets, unless she's been given a reason otherwise. She is also very nice and willing to help others regardless of the danger she puts herself in. She also has a tendency to keep her past to herself. She has a strong hatred for those who use people however they want. She also dislikes dogs and onions. She likes cats, birds, and reading. Her greatest fear is losing those close to her.
Appearance: She is tall with an athletic build. She has sharp blue eyes and waist-length dark red hair which she wears in a long thin ponytail. She wears black shoes, black pants with a red flame design covering below the knee, a blood red cloth sash-like belt, a white sleeveless shirt, and white cloth bandages covering her hands and lower arms up to her elbows. Her Bodhi Blastia is a crest attached to the belt.
Weapon Type: A one handed sword - looks like Guy's sword.
Artes: Void Tempest - She sheaths her sword before quickly drawing it causing short ranged blades of air pressure.
Raging Blast - When Raging Blast is activated, the character reaches forward at the target and gathers explosive energy into his palm, causing any nearby enemies to be blasted away and knocked to the ground.
Infernal Torrent - Gathers flames on the blade and slashes upward causing a small wave of fire.
Biography: She was raised by her parents in Nordopolica where their families took refuge after the destruction of Mt. Temza in the Great War. When she was six she decided she wanted to learn how to fight and she convinced a former coliseum champion to teach her. She continued to train even though her parents didn't want her to fight but she continued anyways. She eventually decided to live on her own when she was fourteen. She then left to live in Dahngrest and get work there. She did odd jobs around the city for about a year.  While she lived in the city she would help take care of some homeless kids with another girl who became her best friend over the year. She got herself hired by a caravan to help get more money for the group. She was a general worker who did odd jobs around the caravan. There she met a mage who taught her the basics of magic while she was working there which she then used to agment her artes. She stayed with the caravan for a couple years. A couple months after she joined she found an injured cat-like creture which she took in and has followed her ever since so she consideres it her friend. She eventually given the offer of joining the guild that ran the caravan. She decided to decline the offer and leave the caravan at Zaphis deciding to find her own way back to Dahngrest and find another guild to join or make her own in order to keep making money for the kids. While she is in Zaphis she is working for a couple shops delivering things around the city, generally in the Lower or Middle Quarter.

Appearance: She's about the same size as Repede with mostly dark red fur and golden eyes. The fur covering her lower legs is black and shaped like flames. Along her back are lightning like designs in her fur that are red. The fur on the tail fades to black as it gets to the tip where there is another fire shaped group of fur. Her ears also have the flame-like fur.
