At the expense of twenty years of their total lifespan, Etheans retain their youth for an additional twenty years. During the last ten years of their lives they age rapidly.

They have a word of foreigners, xenos, which literally means “not us”, though it could also be translated as “barbarian.” While it is not inherently a derogatory term it is usually used as such.
Popular opinion on other cultures: Xenos cultures are inherently inferior to that of Ethea’s, naturally.
Cultural name for the Volcano: Magalis, which literally means “great servant”
A look into the unique culture: Ethean culture views the hair and body as a gift from one’s parents, thus it is something of a taboo to damage them under normal circumstances once an individual has reached adulthood. Adults would typically allow their hair to grow long until death, although most men would cut their facial hair. Cutting one’s hair off and tattooing is a punishment for humiliating criminals. An Ethean’s outfit is made up primarily of two pieces: a chiton and a himation. The chiton is a simple tunic garment that usually falls to the ankles of the wearer, although shorter chitons are worn during vigorous activities. A himation is a basic outer garment worn over the chiton; it is made of a heavy rectangular material that went under the left arm and secured on the right shoulder. A garment called a peplos is sometimes worn over the chiton and under, or in place of, a himation. A peplos is a square piece of cloth with the top third folded over and pinned at both shoulders, leaving the cloth open down one side. Sometimes the peplos is worn alone, in place of the chiton. During colder seasons it's not uncommon for Etheans to wear a heavy cloak. Sandals are the most common form of footwear, but soft shoes and boots are not uncommon, especially when not in an urban setting. Traditionally silk, linen, and wool were used to make clothing, but currently wool is the most common material. Dyes are used to make Ethean clothing vibrant and colorful. Women commonly wear jewelry, both as rings and necklaces, as well as small ornaments that are sewn into their clothing. They also usually have elaborate hairstyles and makeup, both of which, in conjunction with jewelry, are used as a status symbol.
Cultural history: The Ethean nation is a truly ancient one. Written records dating back as far as 1900 BMD (Before Modern Day) indicate that the city of Satrea had long been occupied. However it was only after 1800 BMD that Satrea began to expand and grow in power, conquering the surrounding peoples. By 1400 BMD the Ethean Empire had been formed. Its population was, by no means, a homogenous one. The empire was made up of many different ethnicities. It is unclear what exactly happened, but for some reason Magalis, the volcano, changed the people of Ethea. From their heads grew horns and their lives shortened even as the duration of their youth extended. Seemingly overnight they had become one people, racially, religiously, and culturally. This spurred the Ethean Empire to continue to expand, conquering neighboring kingdoms and forcing these newly conquered peoples into slavery.
By 1000 BMD the Ethean Empire had reached the height of its power. No nation of men could rival it, yet it was the beginning of the end. The Ascains, slaves of the empire, rose up in revolt. Despite predictions to the contrary, the Ascains met with success in their revolt, forcing the armies of Ethea back and forming a kingdom of their own. This marked the beginning of the Ascainian Wars, which would last for another seven hundred years. Slowly yet surely the Ascainians pushed the Ethean Empire back, growing in power as Ethea’s waned. By 500 BMD the Ethean and Ascainian Empires were equal in power.
Empress Euphemia I sought to end the wars and usher in an era of peace. She seemed to have been on the verge of convincing the Ascainians to make peace when she was assassinated. All dreams of a lasting peace died with her. Soon the remnants of the Ethean Empire were completely encircled by the Ascainian Empire; the end was in sight.
The Etheans made one final and desperate plea to Magalis to save them and the volcano granted their wishes. The earth quaked as mountains rose out of plains, rivers changed course, towns fell into opening chasms. The remnants of the Ethean Empire found itself tucked away in a newly formed valley; newly formed mountains and powerful magic hid Ethea from the rest of the world.

Empress Euphemia I (deceased) - Seen by her people as the empire’s greatest hope of achieving peace, her assassination assured centuries more of warfare between Ethea and Ascain.
Military and History
Type of Military: Semi-professional -- The military is well equipped and well trained; recruits go through four months of training ranging from marching to weapons training. Upon reaching the age of twenty all male citizens of the Empire are required to serve in the military for two years. While they are essentially soldiers, during this time they tend to be used to construct roads or other pieces of infrastructure. This system grants Ethea a comparatively large manpower pool of trained individuals to pull from.
Total Military fighting units: 15k standing, with a comparatively large manpower pool of already trained soldiers to pull from
Unit demographics: Roughly sixty percent of Ethea’s soldiers are heavy infantry, thirty percent are archers and other types of auxiliary troops, and the remaining ten percent are heavy cavalry.
