Backstory: Alastair had a long, troubled past during his years prior to his military service. Hailing from an old New Orleans family that fell into ruin, grew up along the canals of the worst wards. Street gangs became his foes as he walked the streets as a brawler for the big fish of the criminal underworld. Just when all seemed like it was going good as a criminal, Alastair was caught up in a firefight when a drug deal went south. Being at the young age he was, he was given two options: prison or military service with a branch of his choosing. Deciding the criminal life was starting to crumble around him, he took the option to serve with the armed forces. When recruiters for the Air Force came, he laughed in their faces and said no thanks. When the Navy came, he said he wasn't a fish. And what he said to the Army, wasn't exactly appropriate for someone in his position. It took three days before the Marines came calling, though when he asked why it took soon long, they responded with the same question. Curious by their atmosphere of arrogance and self-sureness, he took their offer.
Training at the famed Parris Island came and went, followed swiftly with basic infantry courses at Camp Geiger. It wasn't until he arrived with his first unit and deployed to the Middle East was he receiving the excitement the recruiters promised. During one of his multiple deployments, he was approached by the special operations recruiters to undergo their specialized training. Although he declined initially, it was after a four hour firefight and watching the operators in action did he accept their offer. The assessment was brutal, with an attrition rate of nearly eighty percent, but he passed and went on to continue with their training. During a return rotation, he stumbled across the woman who changed his daredevil lifestyle: Olivia. A few months later, just before he was due for another deployment to the Middle East, the two were married and expecting their first child together.
But this deployment, changed the way he viewed his priorities in life and decided his fate for him. During a night patrol, his team was ambushed by insurgents and forced them into a corner fight for their lives. When it came down to the last bullet, he and his friend were the last two alive. Choosing to spare his friend the suffering of being tortured, he gave him a warrior's death by shooting him in the head. Just as he heard the doors kicked in and they were coming for him, the night lit up and a team of SEALs saved him from certain death. But his troubles were far from over it seemed, especially when he was shipped to Germany to receive treatment before returning state side. During his time there, he learned his family had been brutally murdered on their way to visit Olivia's family. His heart and mind broke, spiraling him into a deep depression and to near suicidal ideas. Even after months of therapy, he remained a broken man and became medically retired at the prime of his career.
What he did after his discharge, isn't exactly clear. He mentioned to his associates in passing that he went on a search for those responsible, discovering it wasn't by normal means. During his travels, he met and befriended a veteran hunter of the creatures who slaughtered his family. Learning all he could from the gentleman, he took what he learned and applied it to his eradication of the creatures. And with the solemn vow he made to his family, he promised to rid the world of their murderers and anything associated to their world. This is where we find the grizzled veteran as he passes through Citadel county, searching for his next assignment. Little does he know, he has stepped into a world more terrifying and dark than he has previously encountered.
