You are Immortal. For all intents and purposes, you once lived a normal life - you were born, aged, grew old, and died. But then you were reborn. All the memories and powers you gained from your previous life are intact. If you die of old age, you will be reborn as an infant, but if you die any other way, you can control when and in what stage of life you reappear in (but not where). Your old body disintegrates and is reconstructed when you resurrect. The downside to this is that you'll reappear in nothing but your birthday suit and will have to reacquire the things you dropped, but that comes with the territory.
Much of your life will be spent in the territory of Aetherion, a group of independent States loosely bound together by shared ethnicity. As an Immortal, you may be either a Dictator, the Hand of the Dictator (your right-hand partner), or play some other role of your choosing. You may not be a mortal in this RP. Every Immortal Dictator must be accompanied by an Immortal Hand, and if there are any Dictators without a partner, someone will have to change roles.
The only way you will ever permanently die is if you are slain with the fabled Infinity Blade (yes, a direct ripoff from the namesake series), a magical weapon that transcends time to wound anything that would cheat death. If you are struck with it, you can heal at a normal (mortal) pace, but any scars or other permanent injuries you incur will transcend lifetimes. It is located in the Temple inside the (former) capital of Aetherion, a city situated in the very center of the territory. The temple is sealed off with magic that takes 72 uninterrupted hours to break.
Technology in this world is a mixture of sci-fi and high fantasy. Magical swords & shields, bows & arrows, and spellcasting occur right alongside cannons, steampunk devices, and handguns. Immortal Dictators are in a unique position to profoundly influence the world around them, and players who take that role get to be GM of their respective State. There must be at least 2 Dictators for this story to work, but 3 are ideal, balancing political complexity with RP manageablility.
All of the States begin the story unattached with each other. Once the RP begins, you may sort out your allies and enemies at your leisure, provided this is arranged in-story. Players of Immortal Hand characters may start the RP unattached to their respective Dictators on condition that their attachment commences within the first few pages of the game.
