[IC] Exploring Kalos

"Hmh, judging from the way this place looks, I would guess the gym leader uses bug-type pokemon." Kjolmar said to himself out loud.

A female voice replied to him out of nowhere: "Your guess is correct. Let me introduce myself. My name is Viola and I am the gym leader around here. I must warn you however, if you've come here to battle my bug pokémon, there are two other trainers who walked in about a minute ago."

While the other trainers came forward, Viola grinned.

"I am feeling confident today so here's what we'll do. I will fight two of you at the same time. I'll use two pokemon at once and you'll each send out one pokemon. But once your choice has been defeated, you can not use another pokemon. Do we have a deal? Oh, and you might wanna decide among yourself on which two of you will battle me. I'd take on all three of you, but I only have two pokemon on me right now."

Charlotte nodded. "I think I'll sit this one out and watch the boys battle."

Olli walked into the doors of the first gym in Kalos. This felt nostalgic, Olli hadn't been in a gym in a while. He had alot of time to unwind of his long journey from sinnoh and the thought of going back to battling had him overwhelmed with excitement. With his Chimchar on his shoulder for support he entered the foyer of the gym. Art work and photography of bug type pokemon scaled the walls, it was almost like an exhibition. Olli started to walk round the room, viewing the pictures as he went. Shortly after a girl walked in to the gym who proceeded to do the same, but still no sign of any gym leader.

After a few minutes another trainer burst through the doors, finally emerging from a passage behind one of the photo frames, Viola the Santalune City gym leader appeared. Seeing that there was three challengers she proposed a battle in which two trainers would fight her simultaniously. The girl trainer stepped down and it was left to Olli and another trainer. "Sure thing" Olli joked. He turned to the chimchar on his shoulder and nodded. Chimchar then jumped onto the group in front of him, posing himself ready for battle. Olli turned to the girl trainer who stood to the side. "Hey, how about you referee?"

So this is how it was going to be. Kjolmar looked at the other boy and nodded. "You better be good. I'm Kjolmar by the way."

Viola moved to the battlefield and took out two pokeballs, one in each hand. "Surskit! Vivillon!" Kjolmar took out his pokedex to scan the pokemon. "It seems the little one is partly the water type. Guessing your pokemon is a fire type, I'll take care of that Surskit if that is alright with you. Can you focus on the Vivillon?"

Kjolmar played his fingers among his pokeballs, wondering which one to choose. "Go, Panpour!"

Olli looked at the boy who threw out a Froakie and smiled. "Oh, I'm good" He said.

In front of him appeared Viola's Surskit and Vivillon. Kjolmar had stated surskit's advantage over chimchar and was right. "Ok, We will focus on Vivillion! Chimchar use Flame Wheel!" He shouted. Chimchar stood up and flared up from the tail, after a second he rolled at high speed towards Vivillion hitting it and bouncing to the floor. Chimchar stood and smiled, however Vivillion used gust and Chimchar was sent crashing across the battlefield. Trying to get to his feet chimchar stumbled but Olli knew that Vivillion was hurt even worse and one more attack could win the fight.

Kjolmar was impressed with Chimchar's Flame Wheel and at the same time a bit worried that the entire battlefield would suffer from the flames. Before he fully realized it, he heard Viola shout "Surskit, Quick Attack!" and it hit Panpour head on. Kjolmar knew he had to start focusing on his part of the battle. He had gotten used to battles with some of his stronger pokemon, that could easily dodge attacks, but this was Panpour's first battle. "Alright, Panpour, hit Surskit with Bubble!" It worked but it wasn't that effective. Of course it wasn't, it was a water attack on a water pokemon. How silly. "Now use Quick Attack!" Panpour hit Surskit so hard that it seemed to suffer a lot of damage. Succes, this would be the way to win.

But Viola wasn't giving up that easily. "Surskit, it's time to turn down the temperature. You know what to do!" An icebeam started to freeze the battlefield's floor. "Panpour, don't let that ice touch you. Jump on top of it!" After Panpour succesfully did as he was told, Kjolmar looked at Chimchar and hoped that he was able to do the same. A slippery floor would make it hard for Panpour to make a well-aimed Quick Attack again. Kjolmar made eye contact with Olli. "You think Chimchar can heath things up around here? That icy floor is going to be a pain in the ass."

Seeing the ice start to freeze the floor of the gym, Olli turned to his Chimchar desperatly. "Chimchar buddy, we need you. Use ember on the oncoming ice to melt it!". Chimchar looked up to see the ice approaching, he fixed his position and produced flames in the direction on the oncoming attack. A mist appeared in the gym and as it started to pass the gym floor was covered in a layer of water.

Surskit started moving extremely fast on the watered floor due to its ability. "Surskit's Swift Swim makes in faster on water, be careful Kjolmar.". Olli turned his focus to the Viviliion who was still injured from the previous attack. Viola yelled "Vivillion, Razor Wind!" and Vivillion flapped its wings creating a cresent which fired towards chimchar. Olli knew fire moves were weaker with the water around, but he had to react fast. "Chimchar jump over the Razor wind and use fury swipes!" Chimchar just in time jumped over the incoming blast and onto the Villion which it repeatedly clawed at. The Vivillion hit the floor and Chimchar bent to his knee, seriously injured from the fight. "How you doing Kjolmar?"

Charlotte watched the battle and her jaw dropped several times.
"I can not believe how strong they all are. Espeon, did you see that Flame Wheel?"
She turned her head and noticed how Espeon wasn't watching the battle but was keeping the egg warm that they carried with them.
"Aw, thank you for watching it, Espeon."
This made Charlotte realize that she didn't want to battle after all. She was much more in to taking care of pokémon.
But for now, she continued to watch the battle in front of her.

Luckily, water was a lot less of a problem than ice would be. Despite Surskit's improved speed, Panpour managed to hit it with another Quick Attack. But Surskit was strong and he hadn't fainted yet. "Surskit, let's see how Panpour feels about getting hit with such a speed. Quick Attack!" And she was right, Panpour suffered from the hit.

Then Kjolmar thought of something. Surskit was standing close to Panpour now. "Use Lick!" Panpour tongue seemed to have some sort of paralyzing effect. Surskit was defeated.

With great tension, Kjolmar turned to watch how Chimchar was doing and watched Vivillon hit the floor. Viola was defeated.

"Both of Viola's pokemon have fainted!" shouted the announcer. "Olli and Kjolmar win!". Olli ran to his chimchar which was badly hurt. "Chimchar buddy you did good, thank you" He said before returning Chimchar to his pokeball. He walked over to Viola who handed both Olli and Kjolmar the Bug Badge. Olli looked at the gleaming badge and smiled. This felt amazing, the feel of overcoming gym leaders was one he had forgotten but one he had loved. He shook Viola's hand, before turning to Kjolmar. "Good battling out thee buddy, thank you. I wouldnt have made it if you didnt warn us about the ice. Well Done" Olli then outstreched his hand towards Kjolmar.

Kjolmar shook Olli's hand. "That was indeed a nice set of teamwork we did there. I am glad you used a fire type."

Kjolmar stared at the Bug Badge, the first object he achieved in the Kalos region. With a certain pride he put it in his badge case. The Legend Badge from Opelucid City (Unova) and the Earth Badge from Viridian City (Kanto) were still in there. This way, Kjolmar wanted to remind himself of those battles, as he learned a lot from them.

He looked at Olli. "How about we go heal our team at the pokémon center?"

Olli shook the hand of Kjolmar. It felt kinda weird to be thrown into a doubles battle with him out of the blue, especially for a gym badge but clearly they had synergy and that was what is important. Olli turned to the girl before answering Kjolmar. "Did you want to battle Viola? If so i'd like to watch?" He looked at his four pokeballs around his belt a smiled, maybe it would be good to sit out and watch new playstyles for once. He knew he needed to get to the pokecenter to heal chimchar but this seemed like a good use of time.

Charlotte shook her head.
"I have decided to become a pokemon caretaker rather than a trainer. Therefor I shall not battle Viola.
If it's okay with you guys, I'd like to tag along for a while tho? I'd like to study your pokemon's behavior."
Espeon used her head to roll the egg towards Charlotte. Esssp
"You are right Espeon, I should take better care of the egg. Thank you for helping me!"

As they got to the pokemon center, Kjolmar gasped at Nurse Joy's helper. "Hey, that's not an Audino. But then again, in Kanto a Chansey was helping Nurse Joy." The nurse giggled. "Indeed, it varies from region to region. Here in Kalos, Wigglytuff helps me out."

Kjolmar nodded firmly. "I see. Say, Nurse Joy, could you heal my Panpour and Olli's Chimchar?"

While the nurse took care of them, Kjolmar glared at Charlotte's Espeon and the egg. "So, your Espeon seems rather attached to it. Is it hers?"

[Petal]

Charlotte shook her head.
"No, I found it earlier today. There wasn't any parent around so I took it with me, I was afraid it would die if I didn't."

Kjolmar wondered what the egg would hatch in to. Time would tell. He turned to Wigglytuff and asked "Hey, do you happen to have a map of the Kalos region?" Wigglytuff nodded and went to get one. Wigglyyyy. Kjolmar studied it closely. "Okay, so the next gym is in Lumiose City, to the north. I've always wanted to visit that city!"

But all of a sudden, Wigglytuff seemed to panic about something. Nurse Joy appeared to show similar panic. "How is this possible?" Kjolmar frowned. "What's wrong, Nurse Joy?" Her facial expression turned from bad to worse. She was clearly worried. "Kjolmar, I am so sorry, I wasn't paying enough attention. Your.. Your Panpour, it's gone. I think it ran away after it was healed." "What?!" Kjolmar couldn't believe it. Why would it run away? He had to go find it, it couldn't be that far yet. Kjolmar ran outside. "Panpour?"

A sinister yet feminine laugh could be heard. "Looking for this one?" the voice said, revealing a metal box with Panpour locked up in it. The girl herself appeared to wear a Team Plasma outfit. "You didn't think you had seen the last of me, did you? You can run all the way to Kalos but I'll never stop before I took everything from you." Kjolmar made a fist in anger. "Give it up, Jolene! Team Plasma is over, I made sure of that."

Jolene laughed once again. "On the contrary, little brat. While I came here to destroy you, the rest of our team is working on a new plan back in Unova. Oh, and may I say that I made some friends right here as well. They are a little busy right now, but I'm sure you'll meet them soon enough. Speaking of being busy, I think it's time for me to. Frillish, use Mist!"

A Frillish appeared and used Mist on Kjolmar. Kjolmar coughed and tried to think clearly despite the mist. Then he realized he had caught a pokemon earlier that could help him out. "Go Emolga, get rid of this mist!" Emolga appeared and used Gust, clearing the area. Unfortunately, Jolene was already gone and she had taken Panpour with her. "Emolga, fly as high as you can and check if you can see them!" Meanwhile he turned to Olli, Charlotte, Nurse Joy and Wigglytuff, who had came outside. "An old foe of mine has stolen my Panpour. I have to go look for it!"

Olli was confused about the appearence of Team plasma too. He had been in Sinnoh at the time of the Team plasma attacks but like Kjolmar had said, they were disbanded. Olli ran after Kjolmar who's Froakie had been taken. He grabbed his left side pokeball on his belt and threw it out. "Go Diana" He said as out appeared his Absol.

"Hey Kjolmar, do you need any help? Or have you got this?" He said turning to Kjolmar, Diana stood glaring at the Plasma grunt ready for action.

[Petal]

"I am coming too." Charlotte said.
"Espeon, use your psychic powers to search for that Team Plasma member."
Espeon's eyes started glowing and it seemed to focus deeply.

Emolga came back down and seemed disappointed. "Nothing?" Kjolmar asked. He faced Olli and Charlotte. "Well, it seems I could use all the help I can get. I don't know how she did it, but she seemed to have gotten pretty far ahead." Kjolmar retreated Emolga and looked at Espeon. "Anything?"

Espeon's eyes returned to normal and it started running in the southern direction.
"I think it found her. Let's follow Espeon!"
