The four of you are standing guard over the Wavemaster, currently docked in a UN-affiliated port for a pact signing. There's a lot of complex legal stuff involved, but as far as you're concerned all this will mean is that the UN won't attack your battleship, nor are you allowed to attack UN-affiliated troops. Currently, your captain- the big gloomy-looking green guy with the glasses and the walrus mustache- is talking things over with some very official-looking officials in a tall, well-guarded white building surrounded by sandbags and hastily-fortified SAM batteries. Things are tense, and everyone is more than a little jumpy. Jumpiness that isn't helped by the sudden scream of bombers overhead.
In an instant, three city blocks are reduced to rubble, the SAM batteries blasted into slag before they can be of any use. The captain screams at the radio officer over your channel, only to be told that these machines have some kind of radio-absorbent plating- practically invisible to radar, even at close ranges. He then shouts at you- your mission is to protect the Wavemaster and UN building at all costs.
Your radio officer chimes in- apparently she's already found the frequency for the enemy's comms. She pipes them to your speakers, but they're not very helpful. Mostly just scrambled interference. As they turn to make another pass, though, you can make out a few sentences.
"-ere's no point in us hiding anymore. Delta Squadron, deploy drones and assume formation!"
The dark, triangular shapes drop a small squadron of miniature torpedo-shaped aircraft and fly close together, too close. It looks like they're about to crash, but they don't- they merge. Like some kind of vast, predatory bird, the enemy mecha, a behemoth plane formed of six identical bombers, begins to take shape. It screams past Cosmolossus' face in half a second, swooping up and around on attack heading. The battle has begun.
