I don’t envy my countrymen either. We effectively have a regime starting in 2017.

The most important outcome of the U.S. election is that major political parties now have to rethink their rhetoric, especially the Democratic Party. We shall see if a Republican-ran United States will turn out well or unwell for us, but this is historic in that one singular party holds control of the Senate, House of Representatives, and Presidential Administration in the modern context of our democratic republic. However you feel about that, it is scary to many people that one party can effectively run the nation unopposed; but the American public made their bed by electing senators and representatives so we cannot feel sorrow if this does not progress our endeavors going forward because it is what we chose. As a left-leaning moderate, I have concerns but I am going to try to hope for the best.

It's definitely not the most ideal situation, no, but then politics rarely is. For all intents and purposes, the government in my own country has been pretty dodgy for a really long time; we haven't had a consistently decent Prime Minister in... well, honestly, I don't remember a time when we did have one. Not that I even follow politics much since my view is that if the system is corrupt them no one person in charge will fix it, but there's also a possibility I was simply too young when we had a decent leader here, if we had a decent leader here. The closest equivalent we have to your Republican Party would be our Liberal Party, and they've been in control of this country almost at all times (with minor exceptions) to my knowledge. Granted, our political systems are quite different.

I'm sort of less concerned about which party is in control of your country, and more concerned that Trump is a complete moron from what I can tell. Of course, Hilary seemed like a nutjob as well, so this really was a situation where you guys were screwed no matter which of your primary candidates won.

Politics are always so difficult to understand. I'm very glad it'll be a few more years before I have to vote

I'll admit I'm scared. But the validation of bigots happened months ago now -- and there was no winning this time, regardless of how the vote went. I hope next election sees major changes, but in the end, I think America has been broken for a while. I'm not sure we can fix it without starting over.

So here's hoping that love somehow wins out, and that the nation lasts another year or four.

It's mostly confusing because government and politics are inherently corrupt and broken. You're seldom ever able to make an educated vote until it's too late, since you don't really know what you're getting into and winning an election is far more about being able to manipulate popularity contests and exploit the system rather than about actually showing you possess the skill to lead a nation.

I've got a Facebook account, but I'm basically never on it. I believe it can be found through my username on this site. For all intents and purposes, I mostly only have the account because apparently Ailyn can't list me as her fiancé unless I have an account on the site; alas, the modern era is truly backwards.

That being said, your country is broken from its foundation because all countries are broken from their foundations. Without starting the system anew, things are unlikely to be properly mended. Am I condoning or advocating the beliefs of anarchists? Of course I'm not, since those people specialize only in deconstruction and what this world needs is a major reconstruction.

Me and Ailyn have been planning to have her out of the country and over here in the near future anyway, but I realize that doesn't make the situation the rest of you are in any better.

And there's the problem; everyone has some good policies and some bad policies, so there's never a perfect vote. That's what happens when the system itself is broken; each candidate has their problems, but they're hardly the only cause of these issues.
