Suffer Not The Heretic!
Summary:
- Characters can come in most shapes and sizes, their age, experience and so forth pretty much up to the participant; that being said, I will immediately reject any God-like beings or over the top characters.
- Romance, violence and so forth are expected and accepted, let's just keep it to a 'adult' level without it getting too too explicit!
- Our tale takes place slightly before the events of the current lore; before Abbadon launches his 13th Crusade (as this would suck up pretty much every Ordo Malleus and Hereticus Inquisitor within about thirty sectors.)
- Character sheets will be accepted based on merit alone, not 'first come first serve'; the more odd/powerful your character, the more exceptional your character sheet will need to be.
- I fully expect, and intend, for characters to evolve over time during this RP. An example might be that someone loses a limb and seeks a bionic replacement, whether they get one will be both up to me as GM and the participants as a whole; character sheets will then be edited to show any changes, as with a TT role-playing game, and just remember that every action will likely have some form of reaction.
- This will be a 'high casual - advanced' RP, correct spelling and the like is encouraged (although I'll let less obvious mistakes slide), and at least a paragraph per post. An entire novel is welcome, but not necessary.
- A decent grasp of the 40K lore is welcome, but newcomers are entirely welcome as well- this site is great if you need some more help: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Warhammer_40k_Wiki
- All elements of the Imperial war machine can/will be represented (including Astartes); Mechanicus, psykers, Naval contingents and the like.
- This will not be a purely military RP, there will be battles and combat, but it will ultimately not be the entire story. Thank the Emperor.
- While I do have plans for the narrative, I'm all too happy to listen to suggestions from participants, questions and anything else.
The Set Up:
The guardsman grumbled as they picked their way through the sodden mud towards the citadel that crowed the now-ruined city. The stink of las discharge hung heavy in the air, mixed with the smoke from hundreds of autoguns and stubbers and the unmistakable smell of the dead. Guardsmen and cultists alike lay dead on the tarmac and concrete roads, some few individuals still writhing or screaming in pain, or, if they had been lying for longer, almost faint, pale faces and sunken eyes pleading to whoever came near for a medic, a bottle of water, anything to ease their pain.
Sometimes a set of stretcher bearers would scurry through, carrying a guardsmen they thought could be saved, but mostly there was just whispered prayers to the Emperor and the snaps that marked the firing of laspistols as their wounds were too great, or the tattoos and mutations marked them out as heretics.
Two guardsmen in particular picked their way through the rubble, occasionally stopping and looking around, carefully checking to see if there was anyone else ready to fight and die, and praying that there would be none. They came across a body, easily a good eight-foot-tall and with rippling muscles, sunken veins and ruinous markings covering his back, a gigantic axe lying grasped in his hand.
From below him, a flutter of red peeked out, the stiff breeze that had been chilling the soldiers causing it to jump and dance around, and one of the guardsmen knelt, feeling the soft fabric under his fingers as he reached out to examine it. He nodded to his comrade and as one, they rolled over the body, revealing an intricately engraved sword stuck in almost to the hilt in him, a stern looking man lying underneath, his cloak and ‘I’ badge betraying his true identity to the surprised guardsmen as they called for a medic to rescue the injured Inquisitor.
“My good friend Aemellius! How have you been? The years been treating you well?”
“Calexius, it’s good to see you. As for the rest, well. You heard of the incident on Macradius Secundus?”
“The heretical uprising and subsequent exterminatus called upon the plant? Yes, as a matter of fact, I have, why do you ask?”
“Because I was on that planet. My old retinue is dead, my hand was demolished,” at this, the inquisitor peeled back his glove to show a whirring connection of servo-motors powering his fingers, “and my sword nearly killed four guardsmen.”
The older man’s face darkened, and he nodded. “I see. Tell your new retinue to wait out here, we’ve got much to discuss.” The two Inquisitors nodded at each other and walked inside the room they were standing outside, Aemellius waiting a fraction of a second longer to indicate the retinue should stay where they were. “I know many of you haven’t met yet. Take the time now to do so, there’s no saying when you might next get the chance again.”
OOC Welcome:
So, that’s that, and welcome to the 41st millennium, where war is all, and you must suffer not the heretic! We pick up in Lord-Inquisitor Calexius’ battle barge, as he meets up with Lord Aemellius, allowing for your characters to have an opportunity to chat and introduce themselves before leaving for the next investigation.
Character Sheet:
Character Sheet:
Name: Should be self-explanatory
Homeworld: There's no telling where any particular character comes from. Where were they born, and how did this affect their views on life?
Age: This could range from a merc in his mid 30s to a Red Hunter Astartes a few centuries old. Jeuvenant treatments might be availible to those who would realistically be able to obtain it.
Gender: Male or female. As much as I personally accept trans people, the 41st millennium isn't as kind to them.
Height and weight:
Alignment: Who are they first and foremost allied to? Astartes will be aligned to their chapters, Sorotis to their order and Enginseers to Mars, but mercs and acolytes will be loyal to the Inquisition itself.
Speciality: What is your character particularly good at? What role were they selected for by Lord-Inquisitor Aemillius? Are they heavy fire support? Medic? Or do they take a more social role?
Appearance: What does you character look like under their armour? I would like this to be predominantly writing, although a few reference pictures (no drawn or anime please,) are fine.
Uniform: Talking about armour, what does that look like? Note that power armour is very rare outside of the Astartes and Sorotis, however pretty much everyone should have carapace armour, and maybe better. Customisation to said armour should also be put here.
Armament: What are they equipped with? If you're using a bolter, please specify what size: Human, Sorotis or Astartes. Any grenades and melee weapons should also go here.
Personality/Demeanour: What kind of person is your character exactly? A paragraph is needed, although more is fine.
Biography: This is where you give me a fairly detailed description of your character from their formative years to their training and right up until they stand inside of Lord-Inquisitor Calexius battle-barge as Aemillius has his meeting with him. I expect three to four paragraphs as a minimum although a novel won't be turned down. Keep the special snowflake bull to a minimum please, I'm fine with a destroyed homeworld, (this is the 41st millennium after all,) but there's a point where it gets ridiculous.
