House Name: House Nerian

Head of House: King Ernst of Nerian, or simply Ernst Nerian, is the first monarch from his royal line, his mother having been the eighth and last monarch of house Olern, his father the noble lord of Nerian.

The eldest legitimate child of the union, Ernst was formerly the master of the royal stables. Widely considered a lunatic in his youth, Ernst lead what was considered a doomed campaign against the Tar Sequin position. Originally sent to be killed so that one of his more intelligent siblings could take over as heir, Ernst lead one of the few successful campaigns of the Wolastran war effort, winning not only battles (which the other armies had no trouble doing), but also completing his objective (which the other armies failed miserably at doing).

Despite his efforts, the war was lost. Ernst took over soon afterwards, establishing himself as a patron of many building projects and managing to rebuild the royal army. Despite his skill at generalship, Ernst has been cautious in terms of military affairs, signing humiliating treaties with the Squinites to avoid a second war, which many (wrongly) believe he has the skill to handily win.

House History: House Nerian have been lords of Nerian for hundreds of years now, even holding the throne for one year before assuming it as it has currently.

House Nerian has been well known for its love of the hunt, represented by the hound, and their wisdom, represented by the owl. Commonly referred to as House Olern's right hand in the past, House Nerian is one of the largest houses in the kingdom, currently holding two counties and having many members spread across the continent.

The house was founded when one of the first Olern kings granted one of his household knights the newly completed castle of Nerian. As the man had no surname beforehand, he simply took the name of the castle as the name of his house. During the three empire periods, the house served the Olern house no matter what small treasons they committed. From such a humble beginning, the House has become the most powerful in the land through naught but diplomacy and marriage.

Barracuda is a man of strict, disciplined vision. He in uncompromising in his beliefs that the Tar Sequinuian Empire is capable of great things, and he is willing to destroy anyone who he perceives as an inconvenience along the path to bringing his people to their full potential. This core concept—the foundation of his outlook—was set in stone long ago, back when he was but a child.

As one might expect, a major facet of Barracuda's personality is his complete intolerance for substandard citizens. Those who submit themselves to their primitive instincts, eschewing their potential for greatness through ignorance and weakness, are anathema in his eyes. The masses that cannibalize wildly on others out of pure hunger are, to him, insulting creatures that serve no purpose but to be consumed to bolster the strong-willed and able-minded. He is extremely adamant that Tar Sequinuian should continue to better themselves without rest. Should even one rumor of unworthy behavior reach his ears, even if it is just a single lapse from an otherwise exemplary being, the punishment from his judgment is swift and merciless, earning him the the title of the 'Terror of Tar Sequinus'. 

Although an imposing individual by virtue of both his unmatched power and his willingness to use it to obliterate those who oppose his ideals, the 'Terror of Tar Sequinus' is perfectly rational—even courteous—to those who he deems worthy of his respect. Any Tar Sequinuian that displays the qualities that he finds most suitable is treated as an equal in his eyes, which is often quite a surprise to the unaligned found on the fringes of his recently conquered cities, many of whom know nothing beyond what is told in warnings and rumors. This is often how the Emperor wins new bodies to join the cultural renaissance of Tar Sequinus . Each, however, must uphold the standards of his ideals, else they might quickly spark his ire and face complete annihilation at the hands of a man who has no tolerance for the worthless.

Holding together a nation as wildly powerful and unique as Tar Sequinus takes incredible drive and discipline, both of which were hardwired into Barracuda's psyche from an early age. No matter how different their viewpoints are he uses his ability to express his conviction through his movements, tone of voice, and actions to retain order much the same way that a judge would do in a courtroom. All minor families know instinctively when he wishes for them to cease their arguments and focus on whatever task they have gathered to discuss, and fear of retribution makes them quick to obey. Beyond that room, his discipline and drive give him the focus that he needs to oversee the incredibly complex functions of running a growing society at the height of its renaissance. Despite the seemingly overwhelming responsibility of his station, he never shows weakness or fatigue.

All of the emotions that Barracuda finds useless or degrading are hidden deep within the flesh of his soul, heavily suppressed by the same discipline that allows him to rule as the Tar Sequinus Emperor. He does this to ensure that he meets his own standards, and that the drives of his human instincts remain locked away in the name of progress. As a result, each major emotion that he shows is almost entirely under his control. He does not become elated unless he permits himself to feel the rush of positivity, nor does he become angry without a purpose to its expression. When looked at through a social perspective, however, it makes the man seem incredibly cold. He rarely smiles or shows any emotion at all, even when cutting down dissidents.

Just like there are two sides to every story, there are two sides to every being. Darssus' duality comes in the form of how the public perceives him and who he is on a personal level. Furthermore; Darssus, like many of those who consider themselves to be a royal, has three sides of themselves. Not truly three distinct personalities, nevertheless, he has three ways of looking at things: contemplative, direct, or dubious.

His emotional set consists of a phlegmatic disposition, generally unemotional and stolidly calm. Which usually leads to assumptions of a depressed, cynical man, but bitterness and hate has yet to taint his soul. He still has an optimistic view of the world, harbors idealistic dreams, and naively believes that other gods can be trusted. Darssus maintains no disillusion about the state the world is in, however. But it’s a testament to his integrity and nobility, how he has remained an honest and responsible being.

In combat, Darssus is: controlled, focused, steady, and conscientious of his surroundings. Every decision is made cautiously and pragmatically; he's vigilant in his efforts and never impulsive. He strives to apply the same manner of thinking to every facet of his immortal life. This is why he doesn't interfere in every dispute and is content with watching until needed.

When it comes to Darssus' ability to handle sudden changes and disagreement, his open-mind enables a high degree of adaptability. Because of that, he's able to be tolerant and forgiving of ignorance; whether he's willing to, differs from scenario-to-scenario. But to avoid any interactions outside of his guardianship, he projects a rough, cold exterior. He even goes as far as exiling himself, which further lends to the mysterious lone wolf persona he has adopted. This facade is obviously a guise however, as evident in his altruistic behavior. Once his icy shell has been broken, his warm nature will shine through and the courteous, cultured being with a unique sense of humor and charm will be revealed.

Quiet and careful, Quintilla chooses her words and actions carefully knowing that her words can bring trouble if she is not careful. She enjoys the company of others but grows restless is she stays in the same place for too long.

She is nurturing and caring of others, seeking out those who need her help wherever she goes. The depth of her patience and caring is only matched by her vengeful nature. A trait inherited from her mother, Quintilla will hold to her anger, calculating how best to make the betrayer pay.

Main Palace:

The ten-fold palace was the living embodiment of Tar Sequinus —tall and ancient, built of pure, translucent crystal imbued with metals and dyes. Over thousands of years, it had been carved and inlaid and decorated with stories and forms so subtle a person could stare at its walls for hours without even realizing what he or she was looking at. Its hallways progressed through blues from indigo to azure, reds from rose to cinnabar, purples from violet to amethyst, and greens from mint to emerald, moving so subtly from one color to the next that it was impossible to say where one hue stopped and the next began. The palace was a place for the eternal, built over millennia and designed to be experienced over millennia.
