"Not ba--" Kili started to reply, but his response choked off into a scream as they fell. He'd expected to fly, not fall beforehand! With nothing else to grasp, Kili held on tightly, his face buried in her dark mane of hair.
The youngest kept his eyes shut, and he braced himself to hit the ground. Hitting the ground was not to happen, but in that split moment of time, he felt it very possible.

Thorin, meanwhile, had silently brooding. The day had been a long one, and they hadn't much time to get to Erebor. They had a deadline now. Though far off, he could have sworn he heard his youngest nephew scream. The sound made his blood go cold. "Kili?!" Without hesitation, he rose to find him.

Saeril let herself fall, and the surprise of Kili screaming almost made her become skeptic; if he wanted to fly so bad, he wouldn't be screaming. She expected a hint of laughter, and before she could hit head-first into the water, the she-elf allowed her wings to expand, and lift herself to fly above the water. Letting Kili see his reflection on the surface of the water, Saeril didn't notice that Fili was watching them from his resting place upon one of the bedrooms that the elves were kind enough to loan. He was happy for his brother to experience the impossible, but he didn't want his little brother to get over his head if things went wrong. Nevertheless, the brunette seems to be having fun, almost mistaking his screaming to be screams of joy.

Over the years, Kili had fallen. A lot. From trees, from rooftops, even from Dwalin's shoulders when he'd been very young. The sensation of falling was not new to him, but the height and suddenness of it all had scared him. So much for being brave.

After what felt a lifetime, Kili finally opened one eye, then two. Had they landed? No. They were flying. Or, Saeril was, rather. Kili was too shaken to feel embarrassed, and then he caught his own reflection in the water. For a moment, he was stunned into silence, but then he burst out laughing. "You scared the life out of me!"

Thorin neared Fili, out of breath from he distance of his run. So far, he'd been unable to find any of the others. "Fili! Where is your brother?" Understandably, he was worried, but then he followed his eldest nephew's gaze.

Saeril gave a joyful laugh. "Yes, I tend to do that", she responded as she kept herself in a perfectly weighted position, so Kili can perhaps release his grip from around her neck, and feel the air. "Lean!", she told him, before making an arch to dodge a rock structure. "Feel how I move, young Durin. When I turn; when I accelerate", she was going steady before making another dodge. "I can see us now; wagering into battle, slashing through an army from the air", the she-elf said in wonder.

Fili was watching the flying figure move across the water, and past the rocks; not exactly paying attention to Thorin. "He's living the dream, uncle", he simply said in amusement, once he heard his younger brother's laughter in the distance.

Though he'd been cautious at first, Kili trusted her enough to release his hug-like grip. They were moving so swiftly through the night air, and the view from above was beautiful.
"Could we?" The idea of fighting a battle with his godmother was captivating. Kili was certain that no harm could come to them, not with speed and height on their side. As Saeril told him to lean, he did. It took a few tries, but he soon fell right in synch with her movements.
His success earned a grin from him, and Kili finally braved enough to reach up with one hand to feel the cool air rushing through his fingertips. "We would be unstoppable!"

"Indeed." Thorin seemed skeptical, but he was relieved that Kili hadn't come to harm. "I couldn't have known from the sound of that scream."
Seeing his nephew at such a height was alarming, and he couldn't help but wonder what his sister might say. Still. To hear his nephew laugh like that...he hadn't heard him so happy in a long while.

"Of course we-- not that way!", Saeril exclaimed with a laugh when she felt Kili leaning the wrong way. However, this mistake was quickly corrected, as he suddenly was in sync with her. The view was amazing from the air, and she could already envision them charging headfirst towards an army, taking out many with one blow. She wondered how late it was, so after making one giant u-turn around a tall rock structure, the she-elf was heading towards a clearing where the waterfall ended, right near the palace.

Kili had been tired before their adventure to the sky, but he was now so wound up with excitement that he believed himself incapable of sleeping ever again. So many thoughts rushed through his mind, and he wished to stay in the sky forever.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Once they made it to the clearing, Kili slid down, his hair a mess. "That was incredible -- we went so high, and so fast! Your wings never tired, did they?" The youngest was talking a mile a minute, and he stepped back in order to give her room for her mighty wings.

Saeril allowed him to slide off of her back, and onto the ground, practically giving her a chance to stretch her wings out, and tuck them back in. "They didn't. I just thought you would like a full view later on. This was just a preview", she stated out, half-way teasing him that there was going to be more of a chance to fly again. Sitting herself on the ground, the bright, full moon was shining, along with the sounds of the water falling peacefully. Little fireflies flew about, and the wind was calm against her hair. "There will be many opportunities for us to fly together again", she stated as a matter-of-fact. "Now, let us just dream about it".

"A full view?" Kili couldn't imagine going higher than they already had. "Can we touch the stars?" Again, he prattled on, and he wished that they might fly again just to see if this would be possible. Though he was not tired, he sat himself next to her, but he was far from calm. There had been too much excitement.
"I can't wait to tell Mum about this," Kili allowed one of the fireflies to land on his hand, and he observed the insect before it went to join the others. "Do you think that you and I will have a chance to fight in battle together?"

Saeril glanced at him with a corner of her eye. Touch the stars? She didn't think that was possible; on truth, she's never done it. "Unfortunately, I've never been that high, to be honest", just by the thought of it, she looke up at those said-stars. Remarkably, the youngest godson wasn't at all tired, and she could only hope that if she, or his brother, asked him to go to sleep, she wouldn't be so sure on assuming that he would. When she heard him mention about battle, she had one of her elegant arms go around his head, and pull, allowing him to lean against her with her wing completely the embrace, wrapping itself like a blanket for him. "Nothing can stop me", she finally answered, stroking the hide of his head, as a mother would comfort a child. She missed Dis, certainly. The she-elf was trusted by their mother; even to the brink of death, Saeril promised to protect them. That was her destiny now...

"We will have to try that." The stars seemed so very far away, but if anyone could reach them, Kili believed that Saeril could. As she put an arm around him, he leaned into her instinctively, his heart light. Today was one he would not forget.
"Thank you for taking me," he hugged his godmother to show the love he had for her, as a child does with a parent. Having Saeril there helped fill the void he felt by leaving Dis, and he cherished their time together.
The waterfall was peaceful in sound, and Kili was content, warm, and happy. Eventually, his eyelids grew heavy, and he was close to sleep.

Saeril felt the weight next to her, and that when she was sure that he fell asleep right there. She enjoyed this night, and it became apparent that their bond became close. Too close. She felt complete; by looking at her hands, the sharp nails that she had, began to shrink. All the way down to a gentle curve. It was working; the curse was already failing, but not completely yet. However, the she-elf was just happy to make this evening a fulfilling one.

A few minutes later, Saeril landed at the same balcony they were a few hours ago with the others. But after time passed, it was empty, pretty sure that their companions retired for the night. With Kili laying in her arms, she approached the loft that they both shared earlier, and carefully laid him down onto his side. As it seemed for him to appear comfortable, Saeril covered him with a blanket nearby, making sure that he was warmly comfortable. As for herself, she placed a gentle kiss upon his forehead, and retracted herself to a nearby loft across from him, being similar to his own. Elves didn't need to close their eyes; they will just retire in an 'eyes-open' meditative state...

Kili never even stirred. Considering the fact that they'd set up camp on the ground every night before this, this was the most comfortable he'd been. Rivendell was peaceful, beautiful, and above all else: safe. For a time, he got to rest, but that was short lived. A few hours later, Thorin entered loft, and it was apparent that he'd been searching for them.

"We're leaving," Thorin announced what had been his plan all along. At night, they could leave without disturbance; he did not wish for Elrond or any of the others to talk him out of their journey.

Saeril was back into her slim catsuit-like outfit from the previous day, and she had her horned headdress within hand. Along a good distance from the Elven city of Rivendell, she looked back at the land, knowing this will be the last time they'll ever be that was safe. The she-elf was now the only one who can help the dwarves reach the mountain for now, and she figured that her mentor will eventually follow them soon enough. He knows his way around Middle Earth, that's for sure. "I suggest we all stay together. Nobody shall be left behind. That's the last thing we would want", she reminded the company, as they were about to pass into the woods.

Heeding Saeril's advice, Kili stayed near the back of the line with Fili as he often did. Leaving Rivendell so soon was disheartening, but he knew better than to voice his thoughts. Thorin was in charge, after all.
Still somewhat groggy, Kili rubbed at his right eye to clear it, then took notice of Bilbo looking towards Rivendell as well. Poor Bilbo. Rivendell had the comforts of home he was accustomed to, and now they were back on the road for a grueling trek.

"Master Baggins, I suggest you keep up." Thorin reminded him, then looked towards the sky with a frown. A storm would soon be upon them. "This way." They hiked for a length of time, across the valley and through the woods until they reached the mountains. The path became narrower and lead upwards, and the rain had already begun to fall. A few dwarves mumbled their concern about such a route, and Bilbo stayed as far away from the ledge as he could.

Even Kili felt a bit unsettled by this. The rain was heavy and made it difficult to see. Following by Fili's example, he put up his hood in an attempt to keep the rain out of his eyes, but it was nearly impossible to achieve this.

As Bilbo walked, the rock beneath his feet suddenly gave way, and he was seconds from falling. Dwalin caught him by the arm and hoisted him back to safety. "We must find shelter!" Thorin shouted back to them, right as a massive boulder hurtled through the air, hitting the mountaintop ahead of them.

"Be on your guard, we’re about to set foot over the Edge of the Wild", she again advised and warned them as the company moved through the great terrain. On the way, they indeed came across a moutain pass, and she was nowhere in sight with them, at least not at the moment. As a violent thunderstorm begins, the conditions have turned highly dangerous upon the treacherous mountain. Now the she-elf has been here before, and it would be best if they stuck together on this one. Appearing from the deep chasm, she hovered at the cliff's edge, wearing her black horned headdress to protect her hair. As Saeril had said that previous night, her wings never tired, and she didn't struggle with pain.

"Look out!", Dwalin howled as the giant rock came flying towards them, hitting the edge of the mountain, shattering. To give them better protection, Saeril hovered herself over the group, and her huge wings covered most of them like an umbrella from the falling debris. A few rocks hit her back, but she didn't let her strength wane.

Balin did what he could to shield his eyes from the rain. “This is no thunderstorm; it’s a thunder battle! Look!”
One of the stone giants reared back; it tore a massive boulder off from the top of the mountain and was ready to throw.
Bofur watched in awe as Saeril shielded them from the majority of the damage. Had she not swooped in as she had, they may have suffered a few casualties. “Well bless me, the legends are true. Giants! Stone giants!”
Even Thorin had to be thankful for his nephew's godmother during this time. “Take cover: you’ll fall!”
"What's happening??" Kili tried to hold on to what he could, but he slipped. Quickly, he regained his balance. The rain was relentless, and through it he saw some of the rocks hit Saeril. “No!

It only got worse from there. The first giant threw a boulder into the air; a second giant appeared from behind the company, and was hit in the head. A few of the dwarves yelled at each other to brace and hold on, but the rocks beneath their feet started to give way from all the vibrations and from the impact of the falling rocks. The ground then split; part of the group was separated to one half, the rest on the other.

"Hold on!", Saeril shouted over the thunder as the mountain around the company breaks. "Kili, grab my hand!", she heard her eldest godson shout to his sibling, as she just saw the rock between them starts to separate them. Seeing a crack between her godsons, she knew that they couldn't protect each other now. The mountain they were on starts coming to life, and starts fighting with another. With the company split in half, she didn't know which one to protect more. Seeing that the moving rock Kili was on, made his situation even more risky, which resulted in her making up her mind: she flew over to the swaying dwarves, and gripped the youngest's coat, so he was at least in her line of sight, and not fall off the moving rock.

The she-elf looked in fear as they were about to collide into the mountain. Thinking fast, she tucked Kili in against her to shield him from their upcoming fate. However, when they finally hit the mountain, there was no pressure against them, only making them fall off and land on the more safe-like part of the cliff. She still had Kili tucked against her chest as they landed. Unraveling her wings, she could see the others safe as well, which was a relief. Panting from exhaustion, Saeril allowed herself to catch her breath, and attempt to stand, although she didn't get far, and landed back down to one knee, feeling an ache in her leg.

Kili tried to grab hold, but he could not. The distance was too great, and he could only watch with a sinking heart as his brother was separated from him. "FILI!" The youngest's voice was carried away by the wind of the storm, and he attempted to hold on with the others.
Saeril had held onto his coat to prevent him from falling, and Kili held onto her as she shielded him from the oncoming danger.
When they finally reached a more level ground, Kili let go, his heart pounding fast. That had been too close for comfort -- where were Fili and Thorin?
Panicked, Kili looked to Saeril for her input, but to his dismay she had fallen to one knee. "Delva?!" Moving quickly, he tried to see if there was any damage done to her. At the same moment, Thorin and the others arrived, and the king breathed a sigh of relief to find his nephew was still among them.

Before Thorin could see what had happened to Saeril, another shout was heard.
"Where's Bilbo?!" Bofur cried out as he realized that the shortest member of their party was nowhere to be found.
"There!" Ori pointed downwards, and sure enough, Bilbo was hanging onto the ledge for dear life. Thorin swung down to help him, and then Dwalin helped both up using a considerable amount of strength. "I'd thought we lost our burglar!"

Thorin glared back to them. "He’s been lost ever since he left home!" The words were harsh, but he believed them true. "He should never have come. He has no place amongst us. Dwalin!” With that, brushed past them and went to check for a cave opening.

"I'm..fine. I just...", Saeril trailed off as she tried to stand up once again with her wings trying to give her an advantage for balance. She gasped at the small pain that hit her leg, making her fall down once again. "Must have...hurt it..during the landing while I was covering you. Against a rock", the she-elf winced. It was probably bruised, and that she won't be able to walk at full speed and strength like she used to. "I just need to rest. Stay with me?", she could use a helping hand in this kind of state.
