Because it's a massive, unclaimed island and we don't make physical products so we have no need to be all joined together. Also so that I have actual territory because Swtitzerland, Luxembourg and Monaco are tiny.

Originally Independent Swiss Telecoms, Aegis grew out of a small combined telecoms and entertainment company founded in the late 1990’s. First running only a small variety of TV programs and offering mobile phone contracts, they hit it big and branched out, becoming one of the leading TV news and film companies in Switzerland, Germany and a number of the Slavic countries, leading to the first of its two name changes, this being European International Technologies. It was around this time that they moved away from their primary focus of telecoms as well as entertainment to IT security as well.

With the great collapse edging nearer, they continued their march, until they had begun to become powerful enough to launch their own satellites into space, and were at the forefront of an operation to supply radio, TV, and eventually internet to the entirety of Africa. With the increased focus on IT security, and the absorption of various banks into their business, they made a final name change, this being the now-familiar Aegis Technologic International.

When the Great Collapse arrived, they used their vast funds in order to prop up the Swiss Government, whilst also secretly shifting vast amounts of assets into offshore accounts in Luxembourg, Monaco and, of course, Switzerland, and bought up as much property as they could around these territories to expand their territories. With the complete collapse of the Madagascan government, they saw an opportunity to move into a separate base in Africa, and with the takeover of Italy with Sicily left free, they found the perfect place to locate their new space operations.

With then-CEO ___ being elected in democratically as the president of Madagascar, they set about mass ‘refurbishment’ of the country, bringing it up to the same elevated status as the rest of the countries now under their control, forming the African-Eurasian Aegis Territories, the formal name for the physical land they control (however not the actual company themselves.)

In the chaos directly after the collapse, they offered vast amounts of money in the form of loans to whoever would take them at outrageous interest rates, as well assisting companies who had lost huge amounts due to cyber-attacks to set up proper defences using their technology, which as of now (many updates included,) has never been breached

Their original industry of telecoms had not been forgotten however, and with their base in ___ they officially founded the Aegis Aeronautical Agency, or simply ‘Triple A.’ They attempted to make connection with as many satellites as possible. They also worked closely with AUC in an attempt to make light, resilient shielding capable of allowing spacecraft to get past the layer of ‘space junk’ as it were in orbit.

_Leadership

Aegis uses a very simple system. There are four directors, and when one dies or otherwise steps down, it requires a full consensus from the other three to elect a new member. These directors hold enormous power, but are slightly edged out by an elected CEO position, normally called ‘President’ or ‘Holder of the Aegis’ in extremely formal setting. The four directors must elect a CEO from the heads of the company (one cannot be the CEO and a director at the same time,) and whilst the directors handle most day-to-day business in the company, the CEO is important in emergencies, where he or she is allowed to wield executive power (said power can only be granted by the directors.) In order to prevent the director position from becoming hereditary, any direct blood relatives of a director or the CEO cannot become either CEO or director, up to two generations. (So a director’s grandson could become another director.) The CEO can be relieved of his position by the directors.

_{Major Industries/Brands/Subsidiaries}

Aegis Finances- Whilst not the original brand, this is now the most powerful out of all of them, and controls a large proportion of finances across the world. This industry is what makes them truly neutral; anyone attempting to attack them will quickly find their finances frozen.

Aegis Technologic Security- Aegis’ IT security. Relies on their own technology to keep others safe, and prides itself on the fact that its tech has never been breached by a hacker. This is, of course a PR stunt, it has been breached multiple time, but the speed in which they’re able to shut down an attack and physically track down the attacks is astounding.

It is often said that people are most willing to sell away their liberties when their safety is compromised. The truth of the assessment was most certainly proven in the early years of the twenty first century. As the world sank into an economic depression the likes of which had never before seen, nations began to crumble as their very foundations were rocked. South America, a continent just beginning to gain its footing on a worldwide stage, was among the hardest hit by it. Brazil in particular suffered as the state's already terse control of crime and poverty slipped wholly from their grip and exploded as global trade shrank.

Yet, in the darkest of hours so often appear those who will light the way... For their own benefit, usually. A Corporação Miríade, or the Myriad Corporation as its English speaking investors knew it, was just the lantern to shed its luminescence on the suffering Brazilian populace. The acting CEO at the time, one Hector Pereira, was a shrewd businessman who had built the fleetingly telecommunications company from a small start up at the dawn of the .com era to the largest internet and media provider in all of South America. With the world around him crumbling, Hector was swift is using his influence over the flow of information in Brazil to turn the tides of rapidly swaying public opinion. Subtle blame games in his favor could put massive dents in his competition by turning an outraged public on the 'fat cats' who burst at the seams whilst they starved.

It was as he twisted the situation in his favor that Miríade in its current form was born. Created as a holding company to manage the intended acquisitions that would come from the crash, it received its first newly acquired corporation in x, an agricultural producer who had in times of plenty, risen to prominence of exports like coffee and tobacco. The fools head squandered their position, clinging to cash crops in the hopes of keeping their profit margins high. Under Miríade, more sustainable food crops filled the vast tracts of land owned by x. Harvests were rich and in the starving cities of Brazil, so were profits. If an army marched upon its stomach, so did a nation. With that in mind, subsequent acquisitions were made by Miríade undetheir new breadbasket.

But, food was not the only thing the populace needed. Safety and order were in dangerously low amounts. Drug cartels, who had plagued even the nation's most glorious cities, had operated with impunity as the government went up in smoke. The advent of private military companies was upon the planet as across the globe, similar situations took root. Finding their own security detail lacking, the corporation took steps in procuring contracts with several of the world's largest firms. Pressuring the government with harsh media critique and a healthy dose of smear, officials within Miríade brokered deals, both publically and behind closed doors, to provide the overworked and underfunded Brazilian army with support in defending the public from these criminal elements.

In truth, there was no such intention. Defensive action would only prolong the already poor status quo and cost Miríade the momentum it had gained by capitalizing on the global crisis. What needed to be done was nothing short of a purge. So, using less than legal methods of tracking from its considerable communications network and the unscrupulous morals of its hired guns, Miríade took on a painstaking campaign of elimating the syndicates who had entrenched themselves from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia and beyond.

@Lady Selune I actually should have mentioned this earlier, but how much money does Aegis Finances actually control? Controlling all the money in the world full of megacorps doesn't seem like a wise idea where everyone wants money and having it all in a single location is a tempting beacon.

Also, how/why did people decide to keep their money in Aegis when there's no point in it? Places like the Caribbean and Switzerland are used as tax and bank havens because of loopholes in federal laws; when corporations now effectively dictate the laws, they have no need to exploit loopholes since they are judge and jury.

I'd say a lot because they were offshore havens pre-war, so a lot of cash has passed through/is in their hands. They're also a neutral party who offer loans and give everyone interest, so you have no chance of your cash being lost or stolen, and they have some of the best tech security in the world, so breaches have officially 'never happened.'

Alright, I guess I'll see what the other people who've currently remained think of it because of democracy. But I must ask, whats keeping them neutral/independent? Surely they can see profit for favoring one more than the other if not for political and influence reasons and how haven't they just been invaded militarily or outfoxed.

For a start, there's the fact that they can freeze assets at will, and are tech geniuses. Plus, they do sorta favour some corporations, AUC provides them with mercs should shit go south for example.
