This Reeks of Havoc

The world had gone to shit. Literally. Everything was crumbling, these strange creatures milling around their territory... What had happened? Eric had wondered this the whole time he snuck around to a meeting place. His friend had mentioned something about joining, "The Hunters," who lived on the district with the least amount of Mutations. "It wasn't hard to miss," he had said. By God, Erin hoped his friend was right.

Slinking over to an old abandoned district, he caught himself letting out a breath of relief. Nothing around. No one to kill. Thank God; he never was good at making people suffer. In fact, he wanted to help people. His dream has always been to be a doctor, but he never succeeded that dream because of this damned apocalypse. He clenched his fists a little at the thought of his crushed dream and awakening nightmare. When all this was over, he'd study to help prevent this from happening again.

He got a bit closer to the area, fully standing up and looking around him. Definitely nothing dangerous, not that he could see. It seemed... calm, peaceful, even. But the complete silence was eerie. Usually you could hear the groans of Mutations and screams of humans in the distant, but it was just quiet. No noise. No sound. No nothing.

Erin shook the thought away. There couldn't be an attack happening now, in this place. It was guaranteed safe by his friend. Though, his friend had the tendency to prank people and lie to their face... Okay, so maybe the brunette was screwed. He was alone in a too quiet place during the Apocalypse. What could possibly go wrong?

Oliver hopped down from an abandoned building's window. "You looking for the Hunters?" Oliver bowed, his short grey cloak going just below his knees. "My name's Peak. You?" His rifle was slung across his back. When he came up, a friendly smile was on his face, but there was something deeper under the look. Something dark. "I'm searching for them myself. How about we work together? We both get what we want." He offered his hand to shake. "I'm talking too much. So, what's your name?" He talked fast, and didn't stop for anything.

Angarius

@sharksama@DriveEmOut
The lone woman walked around the abandoned, wrecked-up buildings and dead bodies - old and recent - around the area. She was clearly one of the mutation hunters, dragging around a loaded shotgun with dried blood around her clothing. Angarius hasn't seen people since after the apocalypse began - they either died or ran off then died - so she didn't expect any more hunters to be around. However, she still searched for them anyway.

Something was off though. It was too quiet in that area. Angarius either killed everything off already, everybody was dead, or people were hiding. It was normal... but unusual at the same time. The silence was calming. But eerie.

After searching a few blocks, nothing off still hasn't popped up. "Okay, what the hell? she would growl to herself in a low, annoyed tone. Usually there were faint sounds of random mutations or even a single crunch of something walking. But nope. Nothing. Silence. Zip. This only made her more cautious, the hand holding the gun occasionally tensing up for whatever might leap out.

Soon Angarius finally heard something about a block away. A thump of something - or someone - landing and mumbling. Another monster maybe? Or someone that was hiding? Might as well check out.

She was probably going to stab both at some point anyway.

With a speed up of her pace the woman would go to the source, listening and watching a pair of people around the corner.

Marcus Collins

The subtle but distinct clicking sound of the pistol's hammer pulled back woke him from an otherwise bizarre dream, causing his still tired eyes to crack open and his attention to turn toward the young dark-skinned woman standing over him.

“I told you I'd kick your ass out come mornin’...” Her full lips -painted with umber lipstick- curled to a wry grin. “And it's mornin’, handsome.”

Marcus sat up, slowly rubbing the sides of his head that was pounding from the massive hangover of too much forgetting--the-wasteland type partying he'd decided to partake in the night before. He vaguely remembered the group he'd runned into, who were really just a bunch of teens and twenty-somethings with nothing better to do than drink, fuck, and get as high as a kite. Marcus -being Marcus- needed a break from the chaos, from the life of a guy whose only means of survival in a world ravaged by mutated creatures was a warm gun and a pissed off disposition. No one asked to be in the situation, but you were either a fighter or just another victim amongst the carnage, and he wasn't about to go down quietly.

“I'm sorry miss...” He finally said in low and somewhat husky voice after a few moments of collecting his scattered thoughts and looking up at the tall, lean, and leggy girl dressed in a gray Filter t-shirt that seemed oddly familiar. “But who the hell are you?”

“Mother Fucker!” She exclaimed, apparently loud enough for the other to wince at the noise level. “You're something else aren't you? Coming in here all charm and good looks, drinking half of our shit, rolling around in my bed like an animal, and then you have the balls to ask me who I am?”

“Whoa, first off stop yellin’ because I swear my head is gonna supernova if this shit keeps up…” Clearly he could see the woman was upset, even as she moved the gun closer to his head hoping to drive her point home. “Okay, okay...just lower the gun for fuck’s sake. Let me get my shit together and I'll be out the door.”

Marcus looked around the room with a puzzled expression and realized, aside from the fact that he had nothing but a tattered bed sheet covering his lower extremities, that he didn't notice his clothes anywhere in the small apartment bedroom, not even the Army rucksack that pretty much stored what was left of his life, plus and a few extras for a rainy day. He shook his head in disgust and stood up onto the cool wooden floorboards as the achy muscles, bruises, and cuts on his naked body reminded him of days past fighting his way out of muck and mire to end up where he was. Sometimes he wondered if his situation ever really changed, going from the frying pan and into the fire.

“I suppose you wouldn’t know where my shit is then?” He said, looking back at the woman who held the gun at him, and suddenly realizing why the shirt she was wearing looked familiar. “And judging by the fact that you're wearing my shirt, I’ll take that as a ‘yes’. “

“...The fuck?” She laughed. “That shit’s on you dumbass. I’m not the one who drank too much and gambled all their possessions away last night…”

“What?”

“Yep, you heard me.” She said, shaking her head at the man across from her. ”Geez, you really don’t remember? I guess Jacob must have a had a heavy hand when he was mixing drinks.”

“Who’s Jacob?” The man said, slowing inching closer to the woman, but stopped when she arched an eyebrow challenging him to make just one more step.

“Jacob’s my husband.”

“Great.”

“But don’t worry, I won’t tell if you don’t.” She said with a smirk. “And besides you were good fuck and I’d hate to see that tough-guy mug of yours beat to shit on account of me.”

Marcus couldn’t help but crack a smile at his fortune, or perhaps lack thereof, but the one and only certainty he had of this whole situation was the fact that he wasn’t going to be shot by this woman. At least not today.

“Well lady” He said, taking a few steps forward toward the armed woman. “This has been a blast but I need to tell you something that you probably missed…”

Out of sheer stupidity or fear, the woman pulled the handgun’s trigger hoping to end the life of the man she clearly felt as a threat, but her intent to kill was left void by the echoed sound of an empty chamber and a gasp escaping from her lips.

“...That old pistol hasn’t worked in who knows how long.” The man said with a half smile as he swiped the gun from her grasp and backed her into the nearby wall. “And I should know, since you took it from my belongings. So I’ll ask you again...” At this point, he and the woman were just about nose to nose. “Where the fuck is all my shit and who do I need to kill to get it back?”

The dark-skinned woman was trembling as she struggled to find the words. “Look, y-your clothes are in that footlocker over there, b-but your Army bag isn’t here. J-Jacob went off to scavenge in a smaller abandoned town south of here and I know he took your bag and weapons with him...but-”

“But what?” The other said, grabbing her arms to keep her from running. “Speak up, because I have no problem breaking your neck if that’s what you’re wondering.”

“He left hours ago, and the road headed there is infested with those damn mutated freaks, so I don’t know if my husband’s still alive or if your stuff is still with him in that bag he’s carrying.”

Marcus thought long and hard about the situation, and without saying a word he walked over to the foot locker and grabbed his clothes.

“What are you gonna do then?” The woman said, letting out a sigh of relief that the man didn’t hurt her.

“I’ll do what any half-brained man would do at this time of the day...” He said, sliding on the worn black jeans and fastening the button. “...Eat breakfast before I go to kick some ass.”

At the voice, Eric turned towards the male. He eyes him only for a moment, contemplating on whether to trust this guy or to tell him to back off. Then, he spoke. "Yes, I am here for the Hunters. I suppose you must be here for them too?" Compared to the fast-talking of the younger man, the brunette's voice was slow and cautious. One too many people here betrayed him. One too many.

He tilted his head to the side for a moment. "Peak...? A peculiar name. I am-" He didn't get to introduce himself, because Peak kept talking to him. He chuckled at the youth's words. Sure, Eric didn't mind working with someone. Hell, he liked working with anyone. But a complete stranger? "Listen, I can work with you, buddy. But if I ever find you shooting in my direction, it's the end of this partnership." His words were stern, but not at all intimidating; in fact, he sounded more like an older brother than a vicious warrior. "Eric Von Ducht, at your service." He bowed a bit before something- or, someone- caught his eye.

The woman took Eric by surprise. Was she a spy? No, what other organization was there besides The Hunters? None that he knew of. She must have been there to join. "Hey! You! Why don't you stop sneaking around and come join our conversation?" He sounded friendly and kind to her, but in truth he was scared he was too loud. The Mutations were stupid, but most certainly not deaf. "Are you here to join The Hunters, too?"

Angarius continued to listen in on the conversation. They must have just met if they were only learning their names now. Or they haven't gotten time to properly introduce themselves? She continued to listen in, processing that they were trying to find other hunters. Well, she counted as one - mostly. Honestly, the woman wasn't completely sure of it. She was definitely one of the mutation hunters, but wasn't entirely positive that she counted as one. Most likely did though.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a call of one of their voices going to her direction. Oh boy, Angarius thought with a frown, leaning more around the corner to look at the source directly in the eye. It was... Eric, if she heard it correctly. Join the conversation? Psh. They seemed friendly enough.

Seemed.

Oh well. Might as well go since she hasn't seen anyone else.

The woman advanced on to the pair of men, her appearance revealed. She was wearing all sorts of things you'd expect the military to have. Vests, knee pads, boots, grey camouflage pants, and the large shotgun she was holding in her tattooed arms didn't change anything. The cautious, dark expression on her face made it clear she was a fighter - or probably the dried blood still on her body. Probably not the best person to encounter in that world but she's pretty useful - most of the time.

"Technically I am one of the 'hunters', but I'm not completely sure of it. Being solo for so long makes you dead in the head..." Angarius replied to Eric's question in a low voice, continuing to steadily walk towards them until she was in proper shooting range. That wasn't very far but enough to easily predict any of their movements if they went to her.

Her eyes shifted over to "Peak" - Was that seriously his real name or a nickname? - then back to Eric, trying to inspect them in little time. Redhead and Ponytail. She'll call them that instead. Cause why not?

The engine of the old Ford pickup truck finally roared to life after twenty minutes of engine work, siphoning small amounts of gas from other rundown vehicles, and several dirty looks shot in his direction. Marcus was more than happy to get the hell out of that area and on his way to greener pastures, or at the very least...a less hostile environment. He took the road south, weaving in and out of endless obstacles along the way, and keeping his speed to a minimal in hopes of finding the man who took his bag, as well as taking care not to attract any unwanted attention. He flipped through various radio frequencies only to find there were none available, everything seemed dead, and the lack of music was as disheartening as the ruins around him.

Up ahead he caught sight of what he was looking for, and the man who claimed it as his own. Marcus stopped the vehicle a few feet away, and leaving the engine running, hopped out to investigate. Yep, it was his bag alright, still clenched in the hand of man he assumed was that crazy bitch’s husband, Jacob. Although, it didn’t matter at this point considering the dude was dead, and as Marcus turned the lifeless body over, he noticed half the man’s face was torn off, perhaps from claws or worse.

“Shit.” He mumbled, as he quickly surveyed his surroundings for any signs of hostility, but after a few moments didn’t hear or see anything.

He rifled through his bag to ensure everything was still in tact as he last left it, also took the liberty of checking the man’s pant and coat pockets for anything extra. Aside from a few stray shotgun shells, bottle caps, and a pack of chewing gum, Marcus came across a tattered piece of notebook paper that read:

Meet in the downtown district. Join the hunt, and reclaim what was once ours.

He gave the note a puzzled look and was just about ready to toss it aside when he instead folded it up and shoved it into his back pocket, before gathering up the black tactical shotgun and Glock pistol lying on the ground next to the man’s remains.

“What goes around comes around Jacob…” He said, laughing under his breath as he walked toward the truck and sped off further down the long stretch of road noticing the “Downtown District - 2 miles” sign.

The cityscape wasn’t hard to see even from miles away, as the downtown area was once a roaring metropolis with buildings that seemed to touch the sky. Although now, the husks and shelled-out buildings that remained were only a glimpse of what it once was. Marcus kept his eyes peeled as he slowly rolled through the vacant city streets, expecting to be jumped by a gang of crazed mutated creatures, or perhaps raiders looking to take his shit. His fuel was less than a quarter tank and he hoped that this would be the last stop for awhile as he was tired of running.

Marcus brought the truck to a dead stop as he peered down one of the long side-streets and noticed what appeared to be three people gathered at the foot of a building. At this point, he was pretty sure they saw him as well...

A couple seconds before the new woman did, Oliver knew she'd move into shooting distance. "Peak's a nickname, in case you were wondering. It's either I call myself that, or people call me by my real name. And we wouldn't want that, now would we?" The last sentence had an undertone full of malice, mostly directed at the woman. The man, Eric. He was fine. He trusted him. Quickly, as yet another newcomer pulled into one of the streets that Peak thought he owned, his rifle was in his hand, and aimed at the driver's seat. Granted, it would be hard to hit the mark from so far away and with the windshield, but Peak could do it. He could always do it. "Step out from the car!" He shouted, his voice calm and steady. His cloak blew away from his face for a second, showing his dead eyes.

Eric nodded to the woman. She went solo, which made sense because she came by herself. "I see... So, you finally want to join a group? It's hard living in these times by yourself. Trust me, I know." His eyes lit up, as if he weren't aware of the terrible world they lived, that he was still innocent and pure like a small child. That wasn't very true, though.

At Peak's comment, the male laughed softly to ease the tension. "Let's not make any enemies just yet, Peak. We're all here for the same thing. I wouldn't suggest-" He was cut off as he heard a vehicle, tilting his head at the sound. Then, he car approached.

He stepped back slightly. Out of all the entrances any of them made, the other man's had to be the most interesting. "Oh, hello there!" Not worried at all if the man could be a serial killer or a cannibal, he waved his arm towards him. He didn't really look excited; he looked like he wanted to assess the situation. "Are you here to join the Hunters, too? Also, if you don't mind, don't run is over." His voice was plain and relaxed, yet curiousity tinged his words.

Rose

"We had a deal. I handled yer lil' problem now ya give me what I want." Rose snaps to a much larger man.

He gave her a glare before reaching behind him and dropping a duffel bag of stuff in front of him."Here Thorn now get out before I shoot you."

"Pleasure doin' service wit' ya too. Asshole." Rose snaps back grabbing the bag and making her way out of the building.

Rose makes her way out of the building getting glares from men and begging or pleading eyes from women to help them. The groups Rose associated with are either good or bad. This group is so far from good that its not even funny. The only reason why they haven't tried anything with her is because she can take down more mutants than they can. Mostly because of the traps Rose sets but Rose won't tell them that. Also unlike those woman she fought back when they did try something. Left a few of the men castrated or injured.

"Oh and Rosie-" The leader yells from his 'throne'.

"What?" Rose snaps turning to the man.

"Have a beautiful day."

Rose smirks Flipping him the bird before leaving his building. She slipped through the alley's careful of the mutations or taking out the one's that came to close silently. She got to a familiar apartment building and started climbing up the ladder of the fire escape until she got to the second floor window. That was open.

"Fuck." Rose snaps climbing into the window looking around her home. It was completely ransacked."Well shit." She says dropping her duffel bag. Today was not her day was it. She searches her home and nothing was missing but she did find a mutation eating an other human.

Not in the mood for any of the Mutants she grabs her knife and stabs the mutant in the head. She also stabs the man in the head just incase and for destroying her home. She pushes off the Mutant and goes through the dead mans pockets. Cigarettes, a few bullets and a envelope.

"Alright Mista. Lets see what ya got in 'ere." She says Opening the envelope.

Meet in the downtown district. Join the hunt, and reclaim what was once ours.

Rose laughs at the note."Really guy?" She says looking at the dead man."Well, I guess I am takin' a trip. Luckily not to far." She says standing. Rose stands and makes her way to the duffel bag opening it and smirking."Roff, is a sexist fuck." Rose pulls out a large Ak47 a huge smile on her face,"But that man knows how ta pay a girl."

After packing her essentials and getting her weapons together Rose climbed out of the window like door. She shuts it and locks it before making her way down the escape. Rose looks around listening before running towards the down town district/

“Well look at this sad group…” He mumbled to himself, as he watched the trio’s attention turn toward his direction, and couldn’t help but snort at the idiotic screaming from the red-headed kid dressed in what appeared to be some kind of cloak. Marcus revved the engine a few times, allowing the eight cylinder engine to roar loudly and cause large amounts of exhaust to spew from the tailpipe, only to have the engine suddenly stall out.

“Shit.” He cranked the engine a twice as it sputtered and died out, trying a third time to have it do nothing. “Dammit!” He pounded on the steering wheel. “I knew I shouldn’t have stopped. I should have fucking kept going until I was far away from- ”

Marcus looked around for a moment as it suddenly dawned on him that he had no idea where he was. In fact, he didn’t know which city he was in as he’d been travelling for longer than he can remember. Allowing a drawn out breath to escape his lips, he grabbed his guns, bag, and a half-empty bottle of water before stepping out of the vehicle and holding both hands out.

“Hey...um, I come in peace, okay?” His voice echoed down the narrow alley, bouncing off the shelled out buildings and massive amounts of debris scattered everywhere. “So...don’t do anything stupid.”
The man walked closer toward the group, keeping an eye on his surroundings as best he could while also ensuring that his new “friends” weren’t looking to hijack the last few things he owned on the planet.

Eric listened to the man with a bit of caution. Sad group? This almost made Eric laugh. Though he wasn't exactly sure what he had meant, he knew that it couldn't be a compliment. "Sad little group? So you aren't joining us, are you?"

He acknowledged the man with a bob of his head, signaling the others that the unknown make seemed alright. "Good," chirped the male carefully, a small grin forming on his lips. "We won't do anything stupid... Well, I know I won't hurt you, but I'm not too sure about my new friends here."

Jason saw the group nearby, it had been awhile since he'd seen anybody, would he talk to them? He didn't know, they seemed "friendly" enough but who knows, they could stab him in the back if he got too close.
"HEY!" He called, why did he do that? maybe it was because he hadn't seen anyone in days. He didn't know what to say next, he was giving off a bad vibe as well since he was holding an electrified axe and standing in a threatening position.
