Ulrafen. A canopy of leafless trees hangs about these endless marshlands, that stretch as far as the eye could see. Settlements are cut off from one another, few and inbetween. Truly, the only reason one would stay in this land is to make a measly living either through processing the abundance of fine-quality clay that can be found about, or to house the ones on their way from here to there. Ulrafen's small, sleepy hamlets seem to die at nighttime, because despite the muddy islets that permeate this place being numerous, hazards abound, especially during these hours, from pits of quickmud, to snappers, to much worse. Indeed, a nightly traveler may not get the chance to view the next sunrise. It is there, in one of the larger villages, Asanthorne, that our story takes place.

Asanthorne has seen better days, that is for certain. The village, which earned its' name by the briars and dry, tangled vines that surrounded it like a natural barricade, was suffering from heavy decline. Fish were becoming more scarce as time went on, and trade was not in a better state. Outsiders, both merchants and those seeking a place to spend a few nights had also thinned in numbers. The worst part, however were the rumors. Rumors of strange hooded figures wandering about after dusk, muttering in strange tongues. Noone knows from where they come or where they go, yet some of Asanthorne's more superstitious folk blame the mysterious figures for the disappearance of a local child. Still, such stories are dismissed, in broad daylight, but return in hushed whispers in the village's few remaining stores and taverns.

Yet, in an evening much like any other, change and revelation was about to befall small Asanthorne...

Feon entered the town. She had taken a job to search for a missing child. It payed well and she was a bit of a sucker when it comes to saving helpless non shifty children. "I swear this tip better pay off." Feon said as she scratched the back of her head while walking into town. Quite a few people turned to look at her as she walked through. Sure it was unusual to see a monk walking through. Of course the fact that she had long claw blades on the back of her sash did make others take more notice.

"Is everyone here this shifty?" Feon asked while looking at the towns folk. She had no problem speaking her mind even when no one asked. She also had a bad habit of speaking to herself out loud. To her though talking out loud was a way of making sure she was still herself. She had been possessed before and had no idea until she realized she couldn't talk out loud. So now she's developed the habit.

The tip that Feon had gotten was about one of the townsfolk heading out at night to somewhere. She had no idea but it was all she had. So for now she would have to be doing a stake out from the looks of things.

As with most days in Asanthorne, the village was relatively quiet, its' occupants minding their own business and rarely lifting their eyes from the ground. And so, despite being the village's liveliest hour, Feon's comment could be heard from a good few feet away. Not many heads turned, with a trio of mearchants making inaudible comments while giving the girl fleeting looks, and another small group of five village-folk releasing ones a tad more audible, aimed at her outlandish appearance. The only one who had heard or seen the monk, and did not emanate negativity was an innkeeper, owner of Asanthorne's oldest tavern. He simply let loose a knowing grin, as if he agreed with the girl's statement, and walked inside the previously mentioned inn, the Red Raven. In this entire town, it seemed that this one was the friendliest.

Maybe exploring some more would pay off. Then again, who knows. It may be worth it following him and getting a feel for the situation.

Feon turned her attention to the inn. She headed in and ordered food and a room for the night. She started to eat, and eat, and eat. Her appetite astonished many of the patrons. They had never seen a woman eat so much in their life. She was quite happy with her meal as well as she turned her attention to the inn keeper and got some information about the missing child. The most she learned of though were rumors of a cult, following some kind of evil deity. Of course these were rumors. There was also another rumor of a rabbit that could rip peoples heads off, though Feon just laughed this one off as the inn keeper making a joke about rumors.

later that night Feon headed out to start her stake out. However she didn't get much of a chance to when she saw a figure in a black cloak running in another direction. She started to run after them at this point, though she tried to stay silent she was able to keep up relatively well. That was until a large plant like creature came up from the swamp. She it looked like a treant from what she could tell. Apparently the figure had noticed her and summoned some kind of treant creature to attack her. Feon found herself knocked off her feet by the thing and then grabbed by the feet as it hoisted her up. "Crap." Feon said looking at the creature. She balled up her fists as they started to heat up from her magic.
