Amalia gave a nervous laugh. "Yes, it's him. sometimes I wonder how you remember these things, Avary. You were little when you saw him last."

"I-I've read about him." Avary said. He pulled his amulet out of his shirt. He knew his secret would be kept safe wkth Amalia. "What if Dante comes here?"

Amalia raised an eyebrow, her expression quizzical. But she wouldn't ask. "That is not a fate I like to consider. If he comes here- then, well, our deaths would not be pretty."

"I don't know his real age, but physically he's around our age. If we surprkse him we might be able to take him." Avary said.
Unbeknownst to him, while Dante was dealing with Levi and Cyrus, he felt the amulet, it still had magic within it.

Amalia narrowed her eyes. "Yes, I know that he's physically around our age. Actually, just about 2 years younger than me And 2 years older than you. But you forget that he is powerful. He could have us dead within two seconds. That's not a risk you want to take. Let's just wait here until this all blows over."

Avary looked down. "Oh. Right. I just hate being cooped up, not being able to do anything."

"Neither do I. But you get used to it when you're born a girl." Amalia said with a bit of contempt in her voice.

Avary noticed this. "Being born a boy isn't much better. It's all training and war meetings and taxes."

Amalia half-laughed. "Tell me that when you're forced to suffer through boring etiquette lessons and dress fittings. Oh, and when your clothes are pulled so tight that you literally can't breathe and pass out. News flash, Avary: that's because of my dresses, not because I'm sick."

Avary's face reddened. "Right. But father doesn't dog on you everytime you mess up."

"And you don't have every nobleman, king, and prince evaluating you as a potential bride. 'Bride' is code language for 'prize' or 'trading piece' or 'just another adornment'." Amalia said, sighing.

"And father doesn't expect you to be a war hero, or a great politician. When K all want is to study magic! But no, princes aren't allowed, and when you talk to the old castle wizard about his work, father beats you!" He said, tears in his eyes.

Amalia gaped in shock as she heard what Avary had to say. She brought her brother in close for a big hug. "I didn't know that. I-I'm sorry. For pushing it. But just know- being expected to be mindless is hard too. Now keep quiet. Remember- we're supposed to be hiding."

Avary hugged her back. Tears were streaming down his face. "I know. I know. I can't imagine your life with the lessons. I-it's just so hard, with father and Levi. the one thing that actually makes me excited, I am forbidden from."

"Ugh, Levi. Don't worry about him, he's a big prick." Amalia said, smiling mischievously.

"He wasn't always this way. Becoming Crown Prince ruined him. I guess that runs in the family, eh?" Amalia said.

Amalia tapped her chin quizzically. "No one really tells me anything. Maybe one of our neighbors? The more bloodthirsty ones of course."
