@Achronum My thoughts on blood tastes:

Fire: Typically taste of something smokey and rich
Earth: Taste lightly Spicy, like cinnamon and chili peppers
Wind: Tastes light and cool like strawberry ice
Water: Tastes of bitter made sweet, like sugary teas
Ice: Tastes bubbly and sharp, like champagne
Spirt: Tastes of a thousand different things, like fruits, tangy, sweet, citrus
Electricity:Taste of sour, like lemons and grapefruit
Darkness: Taste of the finer things, like steak, red wine, dark chocolate
Light: Taste light, like cream and berries and happiness
Metal:Taste bitter- Like Black Coffee and Turmeric

Humans: peanutbutter.
Like...the blood equivalent. I don't think anyone will actually taste like grapefruit.

I would assume most old-style vampires tend to avoid having fire or light mages as slaves. It's a bad idea to severely mistreat someone you have a mortal weakness to, after all. I wonder which elements vampires are most resistant to...

My guess is that it depends on the family, and I would also guess that some older families have had extremely bad experiences trying to split up mage families. Like poor cousin Martha, who was given a bird's eye view of the landscape after upsetting the air mage servant. Granted, the servant was executed, but I don't think they cared much.

Yeah I agree! Though my next question is how would medicine or drugs or sickness affect the taste? Just turn the blood sour? Or would they have different effects?

And do they have blood connoisseurs? Would there be a grading scale for blood quality?

My guess is that they try to avoid drinking from a sick mage because their blood is starting to rot? (or at least taste rotten, like milk about to go bad)

I could also see vampires purposely drinking from a drunk or high mage to get the same effect from their blood. Other drugs...eh, they probably don't want that much

I'm curious about communicable vampire diseases that humans may be vectors for, too. Taste definitely varies a lot - I've noticed it in my own blood depending on what I've eaten. Lots of iron rich foods tend to mellow out the otherwise intensely foul flavor by masking it with a metallic scent and taste.

....I don't often consume my own blood, or at least not enough to know a difference?

I also think that it is (or should be) illegal for vampire to drink from anyone under the are of 17. Even though babies taste the best. (It doesn't make for an effective breeding program and drinking from those too young breaks them and they grow up sickly and not fit for long term serventing)

That's an interesting though. With their immune system theoretically non existant, absorbing blood directly could destroy basically everything if it's tainted. They're probably immune to autoimmune disease. They may still be susceptible to chance based on how the regeneration of cells occur. Probably still susceptible to infections but not viruses. Good for thought!

I guess the next question is what about those who have blood disorders. Do they kill off the mages they can't drink from or do they just mark them as unusable?

@Ellion

I think the lore does specify the laws do state they can't use anyone under 18 because of strain and intimacy complications.

Probably part of the terms of the treaty. Human nature seems to be to protect one's children at all costs, so seeing vampires chewing on kids would probably immediately restart the war.

Probably demand some other sort of service, I'd guess. Filing paperwork and accounting is soul sucking work, so it's close enough to giving blood daily.

Think they would restrict them from breeding if they thought it would be genetic? No use possibly growing a food problem.

Probably not. I'd guess that they would want to avoid causing any sort of extra political tension. More likely to mark the mage's offspring as potentially nonviable and try to lowkey manipulate the mage into breeding with someone who doesn't have a similar condition and therefore more likely to produce foodworthy offspring. Setting up 'playdates' seems like a pretty simple solution - especially if it just means that they're letting a few different servant-mages have a free vacation or free meal together or something.

Most vampire lore isn't just about blood sucking and being strong. It's also about them being masterful manipulators. I'd play off of that.

Edit: Oh god. Vampires are professional shippers.

I think the humans would have required children to be exempt from feeding activities, under threat of the war resuming.

I'm going to complain because you missed my character's Life-attribute magic and I have no clue what it'd taste like 0_0
