Name- MEDICAL EXPERT DROID, or Med.
Role: Surgeon
Age: 11
Gender: Male voice program (can be altered)
Race: Droid
Personality:
Med is as cool and practical under pressure as you could get. It's in his blood. Er- programming. Always focused on the task at hand, Med is a skilled practitioner of the medical arts, although his bedside manner could use some work. He's reliable, trustworthy, dry, and if you somehow end up in a casual conversation with him, somewhat of a cynic. Still, he's blunt, unlike his medical instruments, and although he's programmed to say respectful terms like "Sir" or "Madam", that doesn't necessarily mean he actually respects someone.
In most situations, you'll find he offers a pragmatic solution, though perhaps not the right one. He's averse to reckless risk-taking, putting things up to luck is simply a non-option for him. He's not very assertive, and won't put up a fuss if you disagree; as long as you don't disagree with him involving medical knowledge.
"No, your home brew herbal medication does *not* work. No, you cannot just "walk it off". No, biting on a stick is *not* ample pain killer. (That being said, all we have is this stick. So, have at it.) "
Biography:
Med was constructed just over a decade ago in a medical engineering facility in the center of civilized space. There he held a routine, if boring existence (he wasn't complaining.) For several years, he was transferred from hospital to hospital, replacing grumbling human surgeons as the expensive "toy" stepped in and did all the work. His model was an expensive one, and most people were quite averse to a robot holding their lives in their hands. But the complaining usually stopped when he put them under. He's lost a few patients, but he did the best he could, and it wouldn't do him any good to go around crying. Especially since he can't cry.
He was bought by a caravan, and flew with them for a while, patching up routine injuries. They sold him to another caravan, who then sold him to a crew of adventurers looking for some planet of gold. This all went awry, however, when pirates attacked the vessel. In the struggle, a stray missile hit the room he was in. It blew the hull clean apart. His battlefield patient was sucked clean into space with him. Unfortunately, humans are prone to a variety of unpleasant behaviors in the vacuum of space, and Med could not save his patient.
So, Med spent a brief time as a low velocity object gliding through space. His internal clocks said he was in space for a few "months". All the while, the patient he was working on was floating beside him. As luck would have it, he was picked up by a crew of adventurers who seemed to be looking for the same planet of gold as his last crew was. But they had a much better name for it-- Treasure Planet.
It must have been an odd experience for them- a floating robot and corpse companion halfway through a vital surgery. It was probably not expecting when they first detected that little blip on the radar.
Misc: When he talks, his yellow visor flashes a slightly brighter shade of yellow.
Does Med think Treasure Planet exists?
Whatever you say, boss. Doesn't really matter to him. But if you really kept pushing, he'd probably say no. It is improbable that the Treasure Planet carries as much fortune as is believed.
