I really want to see a full caster party now.

I think I'll go Druid if no one else is. If someone wants it I'll go Raven Cleric.

@Ms Ravenwinter, that depends upon what you wish to do most with a character and what druidic circle would interest you as well. An all spellcasting party is viable, especially with a Circle of the Moon druid filling your defensive role with Wild Shape. Two druids would work just as well too.

Either case I still intend to play a barbarian, fighter or druid.

@The Harbinger of Ferocity For the sake of the vague possibility of a full caster party, something I've craved since 5e was released, I'll go for Crow Priestess.

Bard, druid, cleric, warlock... all we would be missing is a traditional arcane spellcasting class as the sorcerer or wizard. Either way, this might be the best time, with a beginner's game, to go heavy with some of the more seasoned members playing spellcasters. Again, my opinion, but I can only continue to advocate giving the newer players the opportunity to enjoy exploring the game with less consequence.

They can do whatever they like, it's of little consequence. I'm just trying to maximize the chances of a caster party. Whether the others want to or not is their decision and I won't try to coerce them.

@The Harbinger of Ferocity An interesting possibility that I don't know if you've considered... Have you looked at the latest Unearthed Arcana for Sorcerers? There's an Earth Sorcerer option that gives the tankiness of a barbarian, but allows for a full caster at the same time. Alternatively, Eldritch Knight fighter would allow for a character with relatively high INT, as none of our other classes appear to focus on that stat. We have a lot of CHA and WIS currently. That's assuming you want to go with a full-caster party.

If we do go with a full caster party, we should probably be aware that casters tend to be less than tanky... it looks like my character will tend to be a front-liner (bladelock, ya know). To counter that, we might want a Paladin (hey, it's a caster). The downside is that 5e paladins tend to be rather underwhelming for the first few levels (but get super fantastic once their auras really start kicking in). Certain Clerics can be fairly tanky (War, huh... that's what it's good for?), but I'm not sure which archetype the Raven Priestess would be.

I'm not pushing for a full-caster group, personally. If we end up with one, it would be quite interesting, though. A friend of mine is making an NPC party of UA Sorcerers and calling them the Avatar group. There's Air, Earth, Fire, and Water Sorcerer archetypes, and they look like they could actually be a viable party.

...I go to sleep and have so much to read. O_o

@Mesonyx Bards are awesome in 5e. Just sayin'

@Ms Ravenwinter Play what you want. Raven Cleric and Moon Druid are friggin awesome, too. ^~^

@JBRam2002 If we go full caster party, I'll be careful not to have too many things that really need someone to draw the fire.

I have considered refluffing and repurposing the Stone Sorcery archetype for the sorcerer, @JBRam2002. While it is not my go to, it might work just as well if someone is set to playing a druid, given it has a frontline focus and the ability to ward damage off from its allies. The primary reason I was looking to the druid was for its Wild Shape, but that is mostly because I enjoy its myriad of feline company it keeps. As for Intelligence based spellcasting, the line never had much draw for me, primarily because I am partial to force of self and insight based characters, Charisma and Wisdom respectively.

The only reason I did not mention my desire to play a paladin is because I have already played two in recent times, to which I can confirm that your statement is entirely accurate. The first few levels, up to about fifth I would say, are not particularly notable, but the class itself is not only strong but rewarding.

@JBRam2002 Death domain is in the DMG. It's a Dex based martial domain with a LOT of necrotic damage and a few Raise Undead spells.

@Ermine Hope you enjoy the PM I sent :P

@The Harbinger of Ferocity Perhaps of passing interest to you is that in the game I DM'd recently, we had a Leonine Paladin of Gaia (Oath of the Ancients). Once he got his auras, man was he annoying to create encounters against. Granted resistance to magic and a bonus to saves in his aura, and he could Misty Step almost anywhere.

@Ms RavenwinterOooh, I've wanted to see a Death Domain cleric run for quite some time!

@JBRam2002, that essentially was and is my approach in the other game I find myself in, but we are doing milestone experience. We are still first level for reference. I have played many archetypes like that before, such as a d20 Modern Cleric of Sekhmet who prestige classed into Ordained Champion and Prestige Paladin. As much as I enjoy it, I never get to go far with them.

The only thing that makes Oath of the Ancients more difficult to handle is a Boon of Spell Resistance. Charisma to saving throws, half spell damage on a fail or quarter on a pass, and advantage on saving throws, all with the ability to add Bless on it? I would almost cease sending spellcasters after a character like that; it is just not bound to work.

Stone sorcerer I am attempting to conjure up a way to do thematically in a manner that feels right. In truth I considered mixing it with the Hexblade warlock for the simple fact I could use Charisma for virtually anything. Sadly, first level makes that a big complex.

At the moment I am holding off dedicating to anything, but I keep being resold on paladins almost every game this edition, even though I have been advocating for them since I started. And by that I mean Green Knights and Champions of the Ferine.

I'm having so much fun rolling things in secret. O_o Things I'm only rolling for my own fun. To self: NERD!

Working on the "public" aspects of the homebrewery thing. Which is mainly just saying @JBRam2002 has a character.

Edit: Oh look. There's a new link early on in the intro post that leads to a page with some information! How strange!

Unless I hear otherwise, I will probably have a character built by this evening. Either another paladin or a druid.

Surprise me. Play a cleric. ^~^
Either one is good. I know what I'd prefer, but it's not my character.

Edit: That suggestion was not serious. I hope it didn't come across as such. O_O

Edit 2: Had you considered the Shifter race? Most of them have the potential to be catlike. The one in the Eberron unearthed arcana.

You needn't worry about how I interpreted that comment, @Ermine. I tend toward perceiving people as best I can at their intent, so no offense was taken or really even presented.

A lighter matter though, I do recall that early Unearthed Arcana, although I will need review it again. I remember being disappointed in it, but it was early in their development cycle when they were feeling out class and race expansion.

The reason I consider not so much a cleric as thus far there are not too many options with their domain devotions as say there were in Third Edition. Likewise, I am not committed to a paladin, as I have played two weretiger paladins as is, or an all spellcasting party as a druid. Part of me wishes to play a barbarian to frontline or a fighter, but magic is still hard to pass up on.

I hesitate at the moment mainly for the fact that I want to be sure my character makes up a useful element of the party not already well covered. Given we do seem light on melee combatants, and for the aforementioned reasons, I do consider the Stone sorcerer with refluffing. In short, just trying to fill a role and enjoy myself as well while remaining useful and liberating for others in my decision.
