@Pyromaniacwolf Yes. Yes it does seem like a good idea. The more the merrier after all. Subterranean would be a nice addition to the roster. The next thing will be a race of gas giant dwellers I guess haha
@Sophrus Jolly plan. I was thinking on kicking your butt the first few times cause all your tricks are already known, but I'm happy you thought about that. Suicide drones ftw.
Well, the tactics will have changed somewhat, fleet doctrine and combat will still be largely similar although new weapons will be on the pipeline rather quickly. However when they do lash out at the empire it will be a different ball game than the defensive war the empire faced before. i wont say what the plan is, but i think you will be rather surprised by my plan.
on a side note, given the strained relationship with the empire what kind of fleet/army would be in permanent assignment at the planet? i am expecting a rather large force given pirate activity and general animosity, although the pirates rarely field anything larger than a small cruiser.
@Sophrus Considering your history, race, pirate and rebel activities, your own security forces, the tech level of your kind and your general dislike of humans COUPLED with the extremely low human population on your planet, you'd be a threat level S, meaning you are under 0-24 inspection, a massive fleet is stationed near, but not directly above your planet. A massive force of ground troops are stationed on your planet to keep any rebellions at bay, and especially at nights there is a larger guard activity, and anyone who gets cought an hour after sunset will be taken into custody for treason. Maybe even a second Glory class battleship above your capital to make sure you ABSOLUTELY dont think about rebelling.
Sounds jolly doesn't it? I think the fact that you avoided genocide means that you still owe the reaper's due, one way or another, and the Empire is keen on showing you that. I definetly expect months of ground combat before you can get victory, unless you pull some magic trick of course.
(Btw the system is rigged so that humans lose, there is no way around that.)
Btw @6slyboy6, @Sophrus. My proposition was actually serious, considering how possibly dangerous that place would be, why not send some expendable forces and a (kinda) reputed grand admiral to watch over it?
Either Konev does a good job and that's that, or he fails spectacularly and the other Admirals can watch his downfall with glee!
I think it would make for interesting roleplay really.
@Wernher Sounds good. Except one small thing. Konev is known for the event where he used xenos to kill humans. A somewhat rebellious activity, and definetly a hienous act in the eyes of other admirals. Of course the Emperor wants the job done, but sending a man known to work with xenos to a place with other xenos likely to start a rebellion is just bad news bears.
On the other hand I might send him there after they rebel, so I will have that in my mind ;)
Finally got a mostly done CS. Excuse me if it seems a bit... Sci Fantasy.
Name: The Xythae Empire
Flag: A golden star on a black background
Type of Government: Feudal
Description of Government: The empire is ruled by an Emperor, who is the absolute authority and Commander of the Military. Below him are the Kings, or Queens, who govern a solar system. For each planet in the system, the King has an equal number of Dukes. Under the Duke are Earls of an amount equal to the continents on the planet, or the number of individual cities divided by five on planets without. Serving the Earls are the Lords, one for each town or city under their jurisdiction. The Archmagi are a group of seven Daenizens with the mutation of ‘magic’, and are treated as higher than Kings, second only to the Emperor.
Main race: The Daenizens. A race of technologically advanced beings, with an appearance close to fantasy Elves, but instead of petite and slender frames, each is built like a powerful warrior. A subspecies known as the Magi are able to use what they call magic to perform spells of a particular school. These schools are the Five Elements, the Seven Virtues, and the One Mind.
Minority races: Humans The Draconi, also known as the Dragonkin, are a warrior race from the planet of Drakon. Annexed into the Xythae Empire after the Dragon Wars. When Emperor Ryzeph XI visited them, fifty years after the end of the war, he was so astounded by their battle ability that he gave them the honour of becoming the Emperor’s Legion. Even though the last Emperor has been dead for centuries, the Draconi mark it as a point of pride that the Daenizen capital of Embla has never been captured, even by other Daenizens.
Religion: The empire worships the C’reth, a pantheon of gods worshiped since before the Daenizens built their empire. Only three have regular worship however. These are Arkain, the God of Knowledge and patron of the Magi, Aveonn, the God of War and protector of the Emperor, and Xythaen, Lord of Fate. Xythaen has the most prominent role in worship. According to legend, he was the first Emperor of the original Xythae Empire, who was called to the heavens due to his power. It is said that he has watched over the empire for aeons, and will return in their time of greatest threat.
Culture: Their culture is very similar to medieval Europe, though of course with better technology and hygiene. Honour is a key factor in attaining standing in the nobility, and has led to commoners reaching the level of kings. Justice is swift, any who break the laws laid down by a superior and punished with little need for courts. In most cases it is not severe punishment, however the Emperor’s laws are punishable by death for breaking. As it might suggest, the Emperor is a position protected by the gods, and is unquestionable once he has proven his worth. The Daenizens are a warring race, though this is also their downfall. Without an Emperor, they are constantly at each others throats, old grudges and petty feuds causing a perpetual cycle of death. But if there’s one thing they hate more than a rival becoming Emperor, it’s having another race ruling over them.
History: The various factions of the Daenizens have been at war with the Empire, on and off, for the past 300 years. Though their technology is stronger than the Empire, their lack of unity meant they were often outnumbered and overrun. Unfortunately, humanity couldn’t establish a strong foothold either, as the scattered forces would often be drawn into another faction and push them back. Progress was slow, but it was clear that the Empire would be victorious. That is, until the Xythae Emperor appeared. After a millennia of infighting, Zane Alkeim, along with the Magi Ryteb Pyarros, managed to reunite the remaining factions into the Xythae Empire. Being hailed as Emperor Xythaen the Second, the empire began a full on war against their enemy. Pushing the Empire back from the core worlds, the Xythae forces began consolidating their forces and readying themselves for the true conflict.
Important characters: Zane Alkeim/Emperor Xythaen the Second: The leader of the Xythae Empire, he united his people for the first time in centuries. Hailed as the second coming of Xythaen, with his black hair, green eyes and impressive stature, to many it’s like a statue of the god came to life. Wielding the Black Regalia, a giant sword said to be used by the first Emperor, and piloting the Deus ex Machina, he is a sight to behold on the battlefield. Even without these, he regularly spars with his Draconi legion, holding his own even against the more powerful race. Though he is a proud fighter, he knows his weaknesses, and delegates much of the logistics and political affairs to his advisors. Ryteb Pyarros: Leader of the Archmagi, and hailing from the school of Five Elements. Considered by many to be the brains behind the Emperor, his strategies where what allowed the Daenizens to take back their core systems from the Empire. A short and effeminate Daenizen, his youth makes people . Zamuri Drakonson: A proud Draconi and general of the Emperor’s Legion. generations his family has led the defence of Embla, protecting it from the ambitious Daenizens and the Empire. Ever since Zane defeated him in Tzk Bha, his life has been sworn to serving Zane. An old soldier, he is pretty inflexible in his ways, but his experience makes him a tactician of equal standing to Archmage Pyarros. Duke Felix de la Lune Noire: In his official capacity, he is the chief diplomat of the Xythae Empire. Under the surface, however, he is master of the Darkmoon; a group of assassins and spies that has been in service to the Emperor since ages past. After the empire fractured, they acted as freelance agents, providing aid to the highest bidder. Felix is Zane’s half brother and the darkness to his light. While Zane brought the factions back under one rule, Felix brought the Darkmoon clan back under heel as servants of the Emperor. Acting the fool in public, he hides a clear insight and a ruthlessness befitting the head of the Darkmoon.
Description of Military: Spartoi Infantry: The basic unit in the Xythae army, they wear the basic Noldar Armour without any enhancements. They are equipped with laser crossbows, and ion sabres. Kentaurus Knights: The shock troops of the army, these men have jets as well as shock absorbing enhancements on their armour. Factoring in their gun lances, they make a devastating force, especially against opponents with low anti air weapons. Khimera Berserkers: Heavily armoured warriors who charge into the fray. Wielding their giant two handed axes, they cleave through the enemy with their strength. Minotaurus Mechs: The equivalent of Tanks in the Daenizen armies, these are soldiers who are either too old or too crippled to fight in regular exosuits. They pilot the mechs with their minds, creating a powerful 15’ tall behemoth with the fighting prowess of a skilled Daenizen. Equipped with a blade, axe, or a lance (depending on their service), these figures lead the charge into the fray. Demigod Paladins: Elite troops of the Daenizens, and the highest position on the battlefield. They pilot the Deus ex Machina, a silver mech designed to look like Xythaen, and standing 20ft tall. Their weapon of choice is up to the individual, but is usually a sword. The Emperor’s Legion: Consisting entirely of Draconi, these are considered the pride of the Xythae Empire. With the Draconi being able to take on the Daenizens even before they had access to the technology of the more advanced race, they are now truly a sight to behold. Even the Empire wasn't able to defeat them when they pushed far enough to reach Embla. Harpi Fighters: Light spacecraft designed around attack power and manoeuvrability. Able to compete with much larger vehicles in terms of firepower, its defences are so lacking that one decent shot can take it out. Gryffon Carrier: A transport vessel, that can be outfitted with a Gorgon Artillery to become a bomber. Pheonyx Light Cruiser: A combat vessel designed to house 5-10 Harpi Fighters along with about 500 personal. These make up a large part of the armada. Wyvern Destroyers: Medium Cruisers which act as defensive measures. Possessing much higher armour, they’re main offensive capacity is in ramming opposing ships and having the military troops storm in the breach. Drakon Dreadnoughts: Names after the home world of the Emperor’s Legion, these massive ships act as mobile fortresses in ship battles. Spanning the length of a small continent, these behemoths possess heavy firepower as well as equipment to facilitate long term battles, such as repair stations and medical bays. Embla: The capital planet of the Xythae Empire had been turned into the flagship of the armada millennia ago. Though it doesn’t possess any world ending weaponry, it can house 20 Drakon Dreadnoughts as well as millions of smaller ships. At the centre of the planet is the Grand Palace, from which the Emperor can contact any of his subordinates instantly.
Technology: Their technology surpasses humanity, though years of infighting have pushed it further along the military end of the spectrum. The pinnacle of this is the Noldar Armour, a modular suit that is custom built for each soldier and designed to allow units to swap between various roles. The basic version used by the Spartoi Infantry is a full body exosuit with an electromagnetic field generator that neutralises laser weaponry and slows more conventional firearms. In addition, the suits provide basic life support, and can allow the wearer to survive without external air for about 5 minutes.
Well, to kill rebellious humans to be fair, and only after he was requested to intervene and merely succeeded where others thought he'd fail. Konev would be pretty vocal about how his only crime is to be too competent for his own good and openly mock anyone who brings up this incident by saying 'I guess they should have sent you, the man for the job, to lose the battle.'
But I'll obey your word, O game master.
Meanwhile, I'm working for a little edit for my sheet, news on that later.
@Wernher I understand you. I feel the same way, but I am saying what the admiralty would say, as it is blown out of proportion. I mostly speak in the bame of the Emperor, as said before, who has no problem with Konev and his usage of xenos to get the job done. Any form of progress is good. And it will likely stay that way, especially if I get Co-GM volunteers who could act as Grand Admirals (not konev) and some other henchmen of the emperor.
Also eagerly waiting what you have in store for me.
@Ryteb Pymeroce Ah, I needn't read much longer than "at war with the empire".
I don't want to sound rude, but you must've clearly misjudged my intentions when you assumed that after every defeat of the humans, they wouldn't bring 10 times as many ships and men. 270 years ago, EVERY empire and kingdom was defeated, expect the two, which I've listed in the opening post.
I've been wanting to keep the human tech level above the other races, as pure numbers wont win a war, but I've made exceptions in certain areas. But having a race that is all in all more advanced than humans is a BIG no-no. Why wouldn't you be the king of all this galaxy, if you had better tech than the guys who conquered almost everybody else.
I can go with magic being a huge factor in your slow defeat, but bear this in mind: you are ruled by Immortal God Emperor Thorisan, and even thought you have your pety king title, you are a subordinate. You will rise up, thats the whole goal after all, but your empire didn't survive the galaxy wide genocide and conquer without a scratch. Your empire is NOT intact. At the start of this RP you are just another enslaved race that hates the guts of the Empire, and wants to break free, but not a third empire that survived for 300 hundred years.
*sigh* I like the whole NS. Beleive me I've read it at least 3 times before amswering, but the way it is now, this goes against many things. Same as the whole AI problem tbh.
Realistically, it would take WAY longer for a magic using society to evolve into space farers, and would DEFINETLY not have the same tech level as an invading force of a highly advanced race.
I dont want to outright deny the NS cause it sounds fun. But no "more advanced tech" and no "still haven't been conquered". I think we can work around these with a bit of time.
Ps: This could honestly sell for the Empire that conquered another galaxy.
Wow, thats alot.. and interesting. and totally fine lol, i do have a few clever tricks up my sleeve to make my life much easier (by comparison). however if things happen how i hope, it should be possible to reduce human resistance significantly.
also i haven't entirely avoided genocide. the vast majority of the gargans killed were on other planets where they were entirely purged from. As for the homeworld the majority of deaths where caused by collateral damage of the ground fighting and orbital weapons rather than genocide.
The gargan actively resisted genocide, surviving total terraforming of their planet etc.
Am aware. Thats the whole point, you got it a 100% right with that. But still, humans wanted you gone with terraforming. They already drank on your graves when u turned it around and even helped them. A massive dent in their pride, and a job unfinished. No wonder they have you under tight security.
@6slyboy6 Fine, I'll say the tech level is about human level with a medieval twist. As for the war thing, it was the only way I could think to have the feudal system still in effect. I suppose I could say humans took the power away from the kings and their subordinates, causing them to openly rebel when Zane led the Draconi to war.
About 2000BE. Emperor Xythaen the First ruled around 4000BE, though that was before they entered space. The lastory Emperor before Zane died about 500BE
Incoming psionic mumbo jumbo. Does this even make sense?
-Isz The older races can tell that somehow, the Crayvens have changed from how they were before. Oh certainly, they always were the impatient short lived and determined insectoids they are, but before there was a passion to them that has been seemingly replaced with cold and unfeeling motions ever since they were almost genocided. How could they know the truth behind this though, alien as it is. Something that once was common knowledge to every Crayven is now lost to time, the fact that like a human lives with the bacteria on his skin, the Crayvens had a symbiotic relation with creatures from another plane of existence called the Isz people or rather, the things. The human word for an Isz was as none recall, a soul.
Living on their plane of existence, the Collective Consciousness or the Ithyll, 'Dreamland' as it was commonly called, the Isz lived on islands in the middle of a churning sea, the islands being the mind of the Crayvens 'Bellow' as the beings referred to the material plane. They were the source of unexplainable visions and thoughts as well as of a telepathic link between the members of the species for while the insectoids aren't expressive in the slightest and really never were, they could say 'I like this person' after a handshake due to what served as their subconscious interacting in the Ithyll.
Great events in one realm could impact the other profundly however and at no time was this more evident than when the Crayvens reached the end of their resources, being unable to continue their exponential population growth. The Isz breed at about the same speed as the Crayvens without concerns for food and space but the minds available to host them so when there was no minds to receive them, newborns were forced to 'drown' in the void, dissipate without a mind of their own, to fight for new minds. It was all very stressful for the Crayvens, insuring generations born in periods of misery were destine to be highly stressed and extremely paranoid. The desire for the Isz in their minds to find a solution to their overpopulation traducing itself to the Crayvens, in the material plane, becoming restless and looking for a change, though they couldn't put their fingers on what.
It was why the Crayvens were doomed to forever try and find room to grow, at the expense of everyone else. Contraception and birth control to make their empires more stable were doomed to fail, the Ithyll demanded permanent expansion!
So then, what happened?
Over a century ago, the Crayven race was brought to near extinction and all that was left was a single individual, a single mind, a single island in the Dreamworld. The Crayvens could repopulate, but that one Isz could not for unlike his host, the being's reproductive system was binary. Without at least one other Isz in existence, it could do nothing to repopulate the now once again fertile Ithyll of the Crayvens mind.
-Stelaz The notion of time and space as the material plane knows it is foreign to the Isz who lived a single moment, it was probably why they were unable to control their own population and forced the constant doom of the Crayvens, but with this moment filled with emptiness, the last survivor, Stelaz, decided to delve in search of what had caused this. No Isz had been aware of the material realm more than the Crayvens had been of the Ithyll before, it was all a vague sort of thing that only rare gurus had the desire to explore. They could felt it was linked but couldn't see what was happening to the other side. It was with great effort that Stelaz managed to pierce the veil and look at the eldritch material world. The being took the energy needed to find the spot of land, the mind that would suit the best its efforts to make contact and thus found what was Lucretia.
At first Stelaz was just an instinct, a feeling. Eventually, it became more than that and began to understand the nature of the place it had found itself. It and Lucretia communicated and during those nights, they both learned as much as each other on the other side and slowly formed a bond as both gained more knowledge of the other plane and learned how events in one affected the other.
Stelaz never knew the Emperor of mankind, he is just a weird form in the aether seen through the mind of Lucretia, but he knows he is the reason he was left alone. That he was part of the churning sea that boiled endlessly around him and that through the physical world, he could end him.
@Ryteb Pymeroce Nice. Cool history tbh. I guess that the feudal system wouldn't be replaced, but rather humans added another step to it. Above your Emperor is the Human IMMORTAL GOD EMPEROR THORISAN, who would be in direct command of your ruler. Like a monarchy really. Of course the large ships above your capital and the ships in orbit definetly take away from that feel, but the system won't change.
Tech still aches, its like a small cut that just wont go away. I considering the long standing history of your somehow not galactic empire, I can agree with human tech level. Medival twist is okay, but please spare me the laser crossbow. Thats like a plasma weapon without any mechanisms of a plasma weapon. Magnetic crossbows and kinetic longbows sound legit tho, if you think you can live without shiny beams of energy. I dig ion swords tho, even if they don't make any sense.
On the subject of modular armor, its basically the same level as human exo-armor, which enchants movement, offers relative protection from small arms and improvised weapons, but not from anything larger. I guess yours could do much more raw protection, being medival and all that. If you intend to go with that magnetic field, then I wish that you'd severly nerf that, or maybe add it as an attachment to shields that soldiers carry. An armor that negates all forms of attacks with relative ease and no obvious drawbacks (not according to your description) sounds way too OP.
This won't matter that much when we make the events in IC, but I feel like its important to set the rules of power. Imagine breaking free very quickly with advanced tech and then rampaging the while friggin galaxy cause you have so much power. Ruins the desperate feel this RP is trying to convey. Plus it would raise the question whether the humans were even able to conquer everyone.
