[IC] Build Fighters - Nielson Labs Academy

Nielson labs a lead researcher in plavsky particle research their studies in it have lead to quite a few discoveries and innovations. Though it was also more recently premier school for up and coming gunpla fighters. Accepting only the best and with aide from some of the best in the field made it on equal terms with the Gunpla academy. Quickly vying for spot of best gunpla school made it a force to reckon with being ran Nils Nielson the former "samurai boy" gave it that much more of a presence. In terms of pilots some of the greatest has walked away from its halls. While it cant boast to have once taught the meijin it has lead many people to the championship and once taught two champions as well. Nils Nielson sighed as he sat at a large desk his white lab coat drapped on a nearby coat hanger. While he admit he loved his job and all that it entails he could honestly deal without the sorting of applicants for the academy. It seemed like this year though he had a promising batch of students hopefully their time in the academy would prove fruitful them.

Yumi looked up as she arrived to the site of Nielson labs. The place that should she be accepted would become her home for the forseen future. With a confident look on her face she stepped forward her strong gait quickly leading her to the doors of the establishment her small stature making them seem that much larger than what they actually was. Once she opened the door she was quickly whisked away to a seating area with a slew of gunpla boxes lining the shelves. "At the academy we recently implemented a standard rule that students will use a fresh straight build of a gunpla of their choices that over the course of the academy they will be able to change and customize to fit t heir standards. This is a way for students to see and view how they progress over their course at the academy should they pass the given exam. Please choose your kit and notify us once it is complete. Any tools that you may need has been provided for you." The assistant stated as she left the room and left Yumi to her own devices. With a soft sigh Yumi look around before spotting the kit she wanted to the Gusion it was a large suit but one that packed a punch. In IBO it wasn't the fastest but boasted a large amount of physical power. This was her something different from what she used before in the verde buster but something unique all the less.

The carrot-topped girl was probably the least likely candidate for any sort of Gunpla school, considering her build as she was escorted towards the selection hall. Broad and burly, she looked uncomfortable in the outfit she chose, a skirt over her spats with a collared shirt and a simple tie in order to make herself look presentable. It didn't quite help that they didn't make anything in her size, which made her adjustments all the more frequent as she tried to work some more space around her collar. She felt oddly out of place; she was a good modeler in no uncertain terms, but she wasn't quite that experienced in Gunpla battling to even consider the prestige of the Nielson Labs Academy. The thought crossed her mind that she might not be able to live up to their expectations, and a small bead of sweat formed on her forehead.

Arriving at the hall, she noticed a blond that was...really tiny compared to her frame, and felt even more conscious than before. Here she was, this meathead getting into the most prestigious and well-known academy for gunpla building and battling, and her current fellow attendee was probably barely a third of what she could lift on a normal day. She nervously put up a hand and muttered "Hi there!" with a smile, heading over to another wall of Gunpla kits after the assistant gave the instructions.

She was a total UC fangirl, always appreciating the grit of the Universal Century suits, so she had to go for one that was totally iconic and a kit she didn't personally have. Noticing a particular box that was mildly out of place, she picked it out, eyes widening. "Huh...a Hi-Nu Gundam...I always thought the design was mildly fancier than it should've been for UC, but the funnel setup is pretty appealing..."

Taking it over to the tables in the center of the room equipped with tools far beyond her normal level of work, she opened up her HG kit, picking out the runners. Looking up at the blond as the girl grabbed her own kit, she chuckled anxiously, green eyes roaming back down to her own Gundam. "So...er...what's your name? I'm Kanoko Tanegashi. The only reason I'm here is that uh...I participated in one event a while back, and someone else used one of the models I submitted for a competition to sweep a tournament. How about you?"

[Lunar Templar]

A pair of women entered not long after the first few people picked their kits. One older then the other. "Place hasn't changed much." The older one said as they walked towards the check in. "Why would it?" The younger one asked, to which the older one just shrugged.

After check in they walked over to the table of kits. The younger of the to muttering 'no, no, hell no, why is this even a kit...'. "How about this one?" the older of the two asked, snarky grin on her face as she held up an RG Gundam Exia. "Really mom? Exia? What happen to 'make your own choices and let the kit pick you'." the younger snarked back, her mom just laughed and put the RG Exia back. A bit more indecision and snark between the mother and child later ...

"Well, I guess when in doubt." The daughter said, reaching for a kit. "Go for as close to 'perfection' as possible." she said, pulling an HG Crossbone Full Cloth from the pile. "The Skull Heart eh? Good choice. I'm a go find Sakuya and bother her while you build it then." With that, she gave her daughter a hug, and went to talk to one of the staff about locating her old friend.

The girl just sighed found a seat at a table, pulled a simple took kit from her coat and started putting the kit together.

Jessica walked into the room just before the announcement about the suits was made. She had figured as much would be the case. The well toned blonde walked over to the wall and searched through the kits. Just because her favorite series was iron blooded orphans didnt mean she didnt live a massive amount of other kits. Pulling one from the wall, the girl knew she had one that few would recognize. Pale Rider. The fourth horseman. A blue kit she saw as a sneaky surprise when painted like a gm as it was definitely not a gm's level of performance or power.

It was nice they provided tools, but her backpack was filled with literally anything she'd need from pla plate to paints even an airbrush and a compressor. It was her own little pet project and she loved it. Jess decided to scout around. It was a table with a rather skinny girl and a girl who look like she had just ate said former girl and converted her body mass to muscle. Jess herself had a pair of short shorts on, a red jacket, sports tube top and bandages showing under it. Her hair was up in a ponytail and trailing down her back as of the moment.

Taking a seat at the table with the other two aforementioned girls, jessica set to work cutting the kit from its box and assembling it. "Evening ladies. Figured you'd need someone in the middle." She joked around, jacket exposing her front and toned stomach, truly a halfway point between the two of them.
"I heard your name Kanoko, names Jessica." She said smiling. "And what might our other one be named?" She asked.

Alexis meanwhile saw someone she hadn't seen in a while. "Security told me there was a weapon on canpus, i didnt expect it to be you." Said the woman to her friend. Long silver hair, a white labcoat over red and grey traditional samurai garb was her style of choice. Sitting on ber shoulder was a small bearguy 3 and petite guy, complimenting eachother as Kanina themed and Simon themed respectively. "Kamina, simon, give a wave to our friend." She said, the two bear guys looming at alexis and giving waves, moving outside of a Gunpla arena. "Sakuya will be out shortly; How have you been Alexis?" Dani asked, hands in coat pockets and the two bearguys listening attentively from her shoulder, blinking every so often.

"Yumi Kurokage" She spoke up as she heard the numerous questions on her name as the ribbons on her head twitched up and down as she answered the question. "I got in due to a tournament victory I believe it made news as the Demon rabbit strikes" She said once more the ribbons on her twitched like a rabbits ear. Continuing her work on the model she decided that perhaps a conversation wouldn't be so bad all things considered. "So with that said what you guys think the whole exam thing would be?" She asked as she sanded down the pieces.

Yumi all things considered was short and lithe in terms of body type her slender build was thanks to her years of swimming and her small stature easily made her look like she was younger than what she actually was. Though it wasn't totally a bad thing she would admit she often took advantage of her size and stature to get discounts and free items every now and than. It was due to her stature and size that she managed to grab her second gunpla kit at such a discounted rate after all.

Though looking at the others she honestly felt a bit overwhelmed one was tall wearing little more than shorts and a jacket. The other looked like she could break her like a twig. Though they did seem like good people though so that was something she guessed. "So whats your name?" She asked the one girl who claimed full cloth was as close to perfection as one could get. If they were going to be here for awhile might as well start some sort of small talk right?

"Alexis, Dani is that you?" Sakuya called out as she burst through the double doors as she fixed her hat once more the white of her lab coat creating a stark constrast to how black her clothes was. "What brings you here Alexis thought you were in America living it up as a champion or something." She continued as she reached her old friends after the tournament scene Sakuya did multiple jobs a coach for a gunpla team to a teacher at gunpla academy before moving back to teach and and help research things at Nielson Labs. She didnt personally research the particle itself like Dani but her job was more hands on with the experimention of new gunpla related items from stages to other such things.

Cassandra

Cassandra had been keeping an ear on the conversation, and who was at the table. "Cassandra Voll. I'm trying to get accepted because my mom went here once and spoke highly of the place. That, and a couple of her old 'tournament buddy's' work here to." she said as she worked on the Crossbone's head parts. Black panel lining where needed and a gold paint marker for the V-Fin. "What about you?" she asked, pointing the paint marker at the 'exhibitionist'. "What brings you 'cross the pond?"

Alexis

Alexis just chuckled at the Bearguys. "I feel like I should be surprised by them. But for some reason I'm not, probably cause its you." she said, walking up to Dani and giving her a hug. It was about then Sakuya showed up, Alexis greeted her with a hug as well. "Feels like forever since the three of us have been in the same room." Alexis said, smiling that she'd gotten a chance to catch up with the both of them at the same time. "I've been good, in answer to Dani's question. Bought a hobby shop, had to expand it a bit to accommodate the battle system I got, but still kind of small over all, which is fine. I also started holding classes. Nothing to in-depth, just stuff to help get people who have an interest in building or battling a place to do so."She said, bring them both up to date on what she's been doing. "As for why I'm here. She's sitting at a table, building the Crossbone X-1 Full Cloth." Alexis said, pointing back to the area with the applicants over her shoulder with her thumb. "Cassandra finally found some motivation to take a serious step forward. Not the best motivation, but it's a start and hopefully she'll find a better reason sooner rather then later."

Kanoko's pacing was extremely careful as she worked away at the plastic, making sure to file the nubs away completely and leaving bare plastic which she wiped clean with a brush. Maybe she was a bit too overdressed, judging by the way the others were clothed. Beads of sweat were already on her forehead as she worked at her Hi-Nu kit, and she bit her lip a little. The damn collar was so itchy! "Ha, so you all have much more experience than I do with Gunpla Battling as a whole. I've mostly just made dioramas and extensive kit modifications. Competing in an event was fun though, and seeing my models come to life was even better."

The broad girl looked over at Yumi, whistling a little as she went after another sprue for her parts. "Really? I mean, I can see the Rabbit bit, but you know what they say. Big things in small packages, and I try to never underestimate someone on looks alone. I already got shown up a little in a competition, heh! Nice to meet you all."

As she continued to whittle away at the model, making sure to get the fit exactly right, the collar felt a bit tighter and her face burned. Was it just her, or was it a bit warm? IT was making it hard to concentrate. Water wasn't helping her situation at all, and simply reminded her of how constricted she felt. Looking at the others at the table, building their own kits, Kanoko realized how much more comfortable they were in normal wear, the next bead of sweat rolling down her cheek and tucking neatly into her collar. The burning itch and sweltering restriction broke her concentration, and she reached up before snapping the top buttons of her shirt, ripping the tie's simple knot in one motion and taking a deep breath of relief. "There wasn't a formal dresscode for this, was there? I got dressed up for no reason."

Justin had walked into the room shortly after the announcement was made about the Gunpla. His intense green eyes immediately locked onto a kit that probably no one else would have noticed: the YMS-16M Xamel. "This should be just fine for my Gunpla selection." he said to himself, "It's a rather obscure suit, so not many others will try to copy it. I suppose I should get to work on it now." The brown-haired young man sat at a nearby table and began working on his kit, carefully removing the parts from their runners and putting them together with as precise of a touch as he could muster.

"It's Gunpla, who wouldn't want to come to a camp at the labs where the magic all happens? Like asking a fish why it enjoys swimming in water. This is Mecha for anyone serious about going to the pros tournaments." Explained Jessica as she had finished nipping off the peices, a kit she had built priorly and began to prime the kit, having brought her tools along. " as to the dress code, it's only for staff, of which, we are not."

Dani was happy to reciprocate the hug and leaned back, the pair of bearguy and petit guy flying around her now. "That's cool. As for these two little things, pet experiment. You get bored sometimes and with an emitter on your waist, you start testing things out." she said giggling as they flew around her. "helps to have implants on your brain."

Looking up Yumi let out a small smile the gusion was shaping up quite nicely its inner frame was built and she was starting to attach the armor pieces onto it's rotund legs was done and Yumi was slowly starting to work her way up. "She has a point for any gunpla builder or fighter there is little to beat the chance to visit let alone learn in a place like NIelson labs." Yumi said in agreement to what Jessica asked as she kept working on the gusion. "Go beyond the impossible and kick reason to the curb!" Seems to be the philosophy of the current Meijin Yumi added. She seen him only once and that was when she won the tournament when he was handing her the trophy. When he said something similar to that.

"Yup she is our magic puppeteer" Sakuya said looking at the bearguys of Dani's the idea was genius and it was great to see it in action of course Dani was a special kind of genius one that she was glad to say was her friend. "Though Dani isnt the only one who has been busy I been involved with improving the AI level of the battle systems. Sadly these improvements wont be seen for awhile." Sakuya stated with a sigh as she mentioned that part it was her greatest moment through hard study and research she managed to allow the AI to evolve and adapt to situations rather than a set computer generated set of moves. It was practically human like in its actions and movements and sadly was not ready yet for public use.

Cassandra

"Sure thing Kamina." Cassandra snarked as she started actually building her kit now that the paint and panel lining was finished. She didn't disagree with the sentiment though, even if she wasn't as 'into' Gunpla as the rest of the people at the table where.

She then turned to the guy with the Xamel that had sat at a table next to them "We don't bite you know, and we got plenty of room over here for one more." she said. She might not be 'into' Gunpla like the others, but fellowship was a big part of why people came to her mom's shop over the larger one after all.

Alexis

"Maybe I should have you guys have a look at a battle program Justin's been working on then. He's got all the modeling and basic rules of the mode done, just needs some one to get some AI in the CPU opponents, and he says the stock AI is to dumb." Alexis said as she watched the bearguys fly around Dani. "New methods of control, and smarter AI is all well and good, but even the smartest AI can be crushed and broken if it's controlling something every one knows the ability of."

[Arclabe]

"Yeah, come on over! We have plenty of room here, and we aren't done with our kits yet," Kanoko grinned, going at it a bit slower than the other two. It was an out of box build, but she was being especially meticulous, as she had learned from her previous experience in Gunpla battling that higher build qualities yielded better endurance and overall operational functionality. The Hi-Nu was coming along nicely, but so far she had only gotten the torso, head and arms down, much less the legs and the funnel pack. It had been a while since she had the opportunity to actually have a group build; being in college didn't help, as her hectic schedule made it extremely difficult to do much with any Gunpla activity.

But now that she had been accepted here? There was time for all the gunpla building in the world. Hers wasn't going to get a coat of paint for now; just lining and some good filing to bring it up to par. She'd have time to dabble in it later.

Jessica smiled. She enjoyed the atmosphere of group building. it was always nice to have people around her interested in the same things she was into. Building up the Pale Rider, the girl would keep following the instructions as she had them memorized. "So, why did we all choose the suits we did. There's tactical and style preferences, but there's always been a link with gunpla for me, where a suit will call out to me, speak to me to want to be piloted and work together. I've found success with these suits i feel drawn to. Why did everyone else choose their suits?" she asked, looking around the table.

Dani meanwhile was enjoying the conversation she was having. "An appropriate A.I. will make use of any suit its given to give even us challenges." Dani said looking around. "As to those gathered in this room... we are the closest humans there are to newtypes. some of the brightest minds on the planet teaching children and some of these children being the kids of champions." she said and placed a hand on Alexis's shoulder for emphasis. "So i will never underestimate an a.i. which can plan twenty steps ahead of me. I remember in our tournament, i went against someone using exclusively graze suits. Grunt suits. The Graze Queen. She gave me a really hard run for my money and i was piloting my Woundwort." she pointed out, taking her hand off and looked around the room, soaking in the same facility she had been in to develop her dive. "Besides, i'm doubly watching my ass when sakuya here makes an a.i. Cheeky girl knows all my tricks!" said the woman laughing full heartedly as she loved the company of her friends.

"There are two reasons, the first is; it's load out is one of the best you can get with a straight build." Cassandra replied. "Between the I-Fields, Beam Markers that can be used for both offense and defense, the verity in beam weapons, and the flexibility the Hook Anchors offer, not to mention the Heat Knives and Machine Cannons. Then there's it's armor and speed." She continued. "There isn't such a thing as a 'perfect build', but I firmly believe that the Full Cloth is as close as you can get. Least conceptually anyway." She added, then started to dig in her bag, pulling out a case.

"The other reason is." she opened the case, revealing a Barbatos Lupus Rex, but one that looked like it'd been through a hellish battle. Armor was damaged or missing, parts of the Frame that where visible where heavily damaged, or also missing, one arm was gone, the other arm was missing fingers, armor, and had a huge gouge in the frame. The 'crown' was gone completely as was half the armor on the head. "I haven't had the time to actually fix the suit I do feel that 'kinship' with you mentioned."

"and yes, 'you should see the other guys' applies here."

Alexis

Alexis's expression changed rather sharply. "Which is a problem by it self. I'm concerned that my title will put unnecessarily high expectations on her. Not that she can't build or fight mind you, trust me, I've seen her go 'all out', she's can be scary when she's got the motivation to do so. But she's not me, she's got no intention of being like me. She hasn't decided want she wants." Alexis explained, then paused "Beside making that asshole Simon eat his words." She added, before continuing. "Though, that said." getting back on track. "I'm less concerned about the staff, then I am the other students in that regard."

"But moving on to the subject of the AI." Alexis said, that smirk crossing her face again. "Soundly like you need some new tricks then. As for me." she shrugged. "A machine is a machine. It'll still run on a 'pattern' of sorts, or have a hole in the 'tactical programming', it's just a matter of figuring out the where those holes are and exploiting them."

"Just give me a moment to finish up this part I was working on, then I'll join you." Justin replied as he continued his work on the Xamel's cannon, "It should be about a minute until I'm done." After finishing up on the cannon, Justin picked up his kit and his work supplies and moved over to a open seat the table with Cassandra and the others, then got back to work on the Xamel. "By the way, I suppose I should introduce myself." he said, "My name's Justin Acelin, but most call me Jace once they hear my name."

"I chose the gusion due its sheer difference from what I normally use. Plus I have a soft spot for the toad guy. My normal gunpla is a verde buster" Yumi said as she opened up a small case placing her verde buster on the field with its extended v fin shining in the light. If one looked closely they could see cleverly hidden beam sabers on the rear skirt along with several stick grenades as well. "Either way I wanted to use something different than this old thing so this works in my favor as well" Yumi continued as she started to carefully place the large armor onto the frame. "Looks like Ill be done soon" Yumi muttered to herself as she looked at the gusion it was almost done just missing the armor on the arms.

"My zero system is like its name sake an A.I that can predict what the opponent will do next. While it is not self evolving or able to predict the future it does it's job. Though the Zero system is just a temp name since the project idea was based after it." Sakuya explained her work was not to be scoffed at just cause its a A.I it was meant to mimic a human brain so it can react as a person would in a fight. "Still dont worry about the students Professor Niels personally scans each and every applicant in great detail before making his choices. I even heard that the Meijin himself helped with the scanning of applicants." Sakuya added it was of note that Niels and the Meijin Kawaguchi would take time to do this.

"The main reason I chose the Xamel is it's a pretty obscure suit, and I kinda like some of the more obscure suits." Justin explained, "I mean, most people who are into the Universal Century-era suits know about the GP01 Zephyranthes, GP02 Physalis, GP03 Dendrobium, and AGX-04 Gerbera Tetra, but not all know about the GP04 Gerbera, GP00 Blossom, or YMS-16M Xamel. Granted, I also like some of the more-commonly known suits as well."

"Welcome! Glad you could join us~" Kanoko chuckled, plugging the completed torso of the Hi-Nu Gundam into its waist with the legs. She then began working on the funnel pack and the booster assembly, ruminating on Jessica's question. "I'm a Universal Century person. My father grew up with it, and he passed his love of the original series onto me. I've watched a number of the newer ones, but only Tekketsu No Orphans really meshes well with me. I have to say, despite the colors of the suits, the visceral close-quarters combat and actual gunfire versus the lancing beams of the Universal Century are really appealing. I only have a few kits I've created of theirs, but they're growing on me with simplicity and individuality."

Assembling the funnel packs one at a time, she attached them to the completed backpack and pressed it onto the back of the Hi-Nu, finishing its almost angelic appearance with the deadliest weapons at its disposal. Kanoko took a light brush and a cloth, deciding to wipe it free of any flash or filing dust left over from her construction. "I picked the Hi-Nu because I already have the Nu at home. I thought it was a bit fanciful compared to the rest of UC, but after seeing some Zeon designs, it grew on me. That, and Unicorn sorta brought the standards to a whole new level, if not entirely in my taste.

She looked at the other suits, raising an eyebrow and suddenly feeling very out of place again. "Geez, you all come prepared, don't you? I'm gonna be out of boxing all the kits I'm using here when we get the chance..."

Her ears twitched as she heard Justin rattle off some of the more famous suits, grinning a little. "You actually know about the Blossom? That's pretty cool! Not a whole lot of people know about it, mostly because there were just resin kits for a long time~"

Cassandra

"Welcome Justin" Cassandra said as he joined them, continuing the assembly of her kit, and listened to the reason behind every one's choice of kit. "I always liked the 'frog' Gusion best. It's the least Gundam looking Gundam I've ever seen plus, it's kinda cute in a really bizarre way." she commented as she put the arms into the torso, and the 'cloak' on the shoulder. "Shame it was instantly changed to the Rebake after it was captured, would have liked to have seen a bit more from froggy." Then decided to turn to commenting on the others suits.

"I hope the Xamel works out for you. I've never seen one used well, ether by the AI or a person, but I've seen some one beat ass in an Acguy of all things. So I'm sure I just haven't been paying attention long enough to see some one do anything neat with one. Mom probably has though." She said to Justin as she put the legs in to the hip joints. "Not gonna lie though, not a fan of UC designs though. Far to 'cookie cutter' for my tastes, and I especially loath the ones that are identical to another suit save a different weapon or head, or some other really minor difference that has no right to be considered a 'full variant'."

Cassandra put that last few parts on her kit. "Maybe it's because my mom and her friends are builders and fighters, and that's what I've grown up around, but I have an affinity for suits designs with 'personality' to them."

Alexis

"Ha! Don't worry she says." Alexis snarked. "That's never gonna happen, but it's one of those things 'you'll under stand if you have kids'." she added. "But you sure you want it to mimic a human way of thinking? I've seen some pretty stupid people ... even in the higher rankings..."Alexis added, then that smirk they'd seen before, the one she got when some one was challenging her crossed her face. "But if you think 'Zero' is so tough an opponent, all i have to say to that is, 'bring it'."

"Fair enough all around." Jessica commented as she was finishing up the pale rider. It was soon all in place as she snapped the final couple of peices together. "They gave us one free suit, i wonder if i can grab another... Speaking of which...." she said, staring up at the main stage of the room. Some guy in an afro seemed to be making his way up there.

Dani smiled and was happy to be in company of good friends again. However, looking over at the stage. "Jesus christ no..." she said and face palmed. "Why did he have to be here... the lab is famous enough and has plenty of funding..." she groaned, putting her face into her palm as the Bearguys tried to comfort her.



"Attention faiters!" he called out in broken engrish. "I am Mr Gunpla! The First Proefeshawnal Gunpla Faitah!" he said, shine on his glasses and the entire outfit seeming to be from a time and era long wished to be forgotten. "I will manage Gunpla Store, SUPAHCEWL!" he said and did a couple of kung fu moves that obviously were ripped from tv. "For all the young laydays out there! and you fellas, you get 3 Gunpla kit.... FOR FREE! Yeaaah!" he calleed out and shoved a fist to the sky. "Building the first. Come get two more!" he shouted before moonwalking off the stage much to many of the Staff's relief.

Dani groaned. "i hate the fact he's our sponsor... i've had him hit on me five times alone today..." she said with a sigh. However, the male walked towards the group of the three standing there and smiled, pointing finger guns at him, he gave a wink they could feel from behind his sunglasses. "Laydays!" he said before walking off as a security guard glared at him.
