A sprawling metropolis with a population of 3.8 million, Rush City relishes in having a peaceful and prosperous. Busy streets, populated parks, businesses and pizza shops make up the day-today experience of Rush City. However, it is because Rush City is a sprawling metropolis that the city is no stranger to the extraordinary occurrences which threaten the peace and populace; the city erupts into panic when faced with villains, monsters and jaywalkers which threaten the stability of the city, causing crime and wanton destruction.

But it's at times such as these that the Teen Sentinels make themselves known - a group of teenage superheroes who spring into action to save Rush City from the clutches of evil, time and time again!

Sentinels, go!

Welcome to the Sentinels, Go! OOC! As I've detailed in the title, this is a roleplay takes heavy inspiration from the original Teen Titans television series, and focuses on the group known as the Teen Sentinels, who have given themselves the task of protecting Rush City - a metropolis in California - from threats both internal and external.

Despite taking heavy inspiration from the TT series, this Roleplay still fundamentally takes place in its own universe (which we'll call the Sentinels Universe™ for the moment) and as such it will be possible for players to create their own concepts, locations, etc.

Story-wise, I'd prefer to have a more villain-of-the-day approach, with a few instances of story arcs in between. Feel free to pitch in any arc ideas that you may have regarding your characters or otherwise.

Tone-wise, we're aiming to replicate the tone of the original TT series. It had a few dark moments, sure, but it was mostly lighthearted and lots of humour in between.

Basically, this is a lighthearted teenage superhero roleplay. Treat it as such and everything'll be fine.

By choosing to make a character, we will assume that you've read and accepted all the rules below

Customise the character sheet how you like, but make sure the relevant fields are present.
Refer to the Character Creation section in the rules for examples of the kind of character art we're looking for.

@Fabricant451 That's fine also hi

@Mr Allen J Glad to see additional interest, I don't want to exclude people who may have missed the Interest Check so "auditions" are still open to anyone else who happens to wander in.

The current deadline for character submissions is 23/04/2017 at 7:00PM GMT, after which I'll review all character sheets and choose the FOUR* characters that fit the vision of the Roleplay.

Not sure if Ki Manipulation breaks the energy manipulating rules, but it just lets him slightly enhance himself, minor healing of others and doing a really strong punch, along with some mystic energy sensing if he really focuses.

Character is a little bit like Shang-Chi or Iron Fist, but with backstory and quirks a little different than either.

@Poke Just making sure, the series you're referring to is the one where the team unites their super powers and never meet villains that they like?

A few questions if you don't mind. Are you looking for any specific balance in power types e.g. one robot, one normal gadget/weapon user, one alien, etc. I know Batman's existence was never stated explicitly in the show, but can we assume a sidekick of a famous hero within the world is fair game?

Also, minor thing... you mention both Rush City and Far Hills in the OP.

@Dblade26 Ki manipulation is fine. It's all-encompassing energy manipulation that's banned. In the same fashion that Matter manipulation is banned. Their sheer generality makes them too powerful.

@Counter CoupThis one.

EDIT: @Prints Avoid A specific power balance that mimics the show would be ideal, but while I do want a nice spread of powers, they don't necessarily have to correlate 1:1 with the show. Sorry if that's too vague.

You can create a character that was a sidekick to a famous hero (think Robin), although the idea of the RP is that these teenage superheroes have broke apart from that to make a team of their own.

Replace any mention of Far Hills with Rush City, Far Hills was the original name but it was changed during development.

Real Name:
Brent Waters

Superhero Alias:
Heavy

Age:
17

Gender:

Male

Species:

Male

Powers:
Brent is able to control the pull and direction of gravity. The ramifications of this are fairly obvious, thought he typically prefers to just increase the gravity around his opponents to keep their firmly rooted in place. His skin and bones are also more dense than a normal human's, making him a bit more difficult to injure, and he tips the scales at around forty pounds heavier than he appears. Currently, he's experimenting with his power to see if he can increase this factor, typically training at 10 times Earth's gravity (Yes, I am fully aware that is not how it works in real life.)

Abilities:
While he's not particularly book-smart, he possesses all the practical skills demanded of any proper good ol' boy; Mechanical skill for automobiles, reading sign, tracking, and basic negotiations. His religious background also, surprisingly enough, seems to come in handy with certain supernatural forces, though admittedly this is situational.

Equipment:
He typically eschews all but his communicator and other essentials, though on occasion he does take his motorcycle (a white and blue Harley-Davidson FXDWG Wide Glide with beige braid-trimmed seat, black leather saddlebags and rear-view mirror) out on missions. As he takes the license plate off for obvious reasons, the bike is in fact not street-legal.

Personality:
For the most part, Brent fits the bill for good-hearted, earnest naivety common among a religious family, preferring to see the best in others and quick to forgive a slight, and prone to blushing when certain topics are brought up. He is typically the first to try talking the villains down and appealing to conscience, and always attends court hearings to ensure they get a fair trial. He does however have this viscous side when his friends are put in immediately lethal danger, having to resist the urge to apply just a little more gravity than necessary to end the fight. When it comes to teamwork, he prefers to follow rather than lead, as he knows he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and though he is far from being an idiot, this lack of book-smarts is a notable source of self-consciousness for the boy.

Brief Backstory:

Like most metahumans, Brent Waters' story for the most part was marked with a mundane existence, a good ol' boy from North Carolina that most thought would lead an average life. Sure, some raised an eyebrow at the fact he tipped the scales despite being in peak shape for a kid his age, but it was easily ignored, especially when he put that weight to good use as the star tackle for the high school. Fate, however, had other ideas. A dispute between his friends and local punks turned out to be the moment he discovered his power, ending with several broken bones and one poor boy's right foot crushed flat. Shocked at both the discovered of his heritage and this sudden loss of control, Brent's thoughts raced, and in desperation he rushed to tell his father what happened.

"Son, you got big powers, like those supers in the city. God gave ya a gift, an' you gotta use it right." His father told him. And so the single father and his three children left their hometown, transferring to Rush City where there was talk of lots of supers, including one's Brent's age, gathering. After all, where better to learn to control this gift than among others with it?

Arc Ideas:
Crisis of Faith: Constant battles with the supernatural have taken their toll on Brent, as he's forced to question a greater good when faced with such a constant onslaught of evil. In his desperation to find some way of rationalizing his faith with all he's witnessed, he distances himself from the Sentinels and in the process makes himself a prime target for a vengeful sorceress eager to see a righteous soul damned.

Thicker Than Water: Brent's sister has always lived in the shadow of brother, and resentment has built in her heart as she watched him go on to do great things while she was stuck in mediocrity. Now, however, her own dormant metahuman genes have come into fruition, and now she sees the time to finally take her place at the forefront. A young meta, however, is a prize for any villain...

@The Whacko A very interesting character sheet. I don't see gravity manipulation touched upon very often, so it's a nice change.

Perhaps I'm being too pedantic, but in regards to your character's appearance, 3D/Screenshot-based images don't really fit the aesthetic that we're going for. Would it be possible for you to find a different image?

I would, but sadly this is really the best I could get. At least this gives a good idea of the costume. As for unmasked, well...the closest I could find to his face was anime-esc artwork of jocks making out with twinks. Not what I was going for. Think fairly generic good ol' boy jock; blonde crew cut, moon face, ruggedly handsome. Never failed before.

I welcome all feedback xD Let me know if the power is a no go. The no energy manipulation rules out magic and the like, though ki-energy seemed ok by you. If the power is a no go, would you mind something a long the lines of Raven's power or perhaps being a walking bag of holding? (infinite storage of nonliving matter xD - might need to change his equipment on that one though)

---
Tried to go with, conceptually, the neo versions of characters as for his current power. Like Dark Link or what have you. Appearing as the great hero's clone in terms of abilities, but this time as a hero. Not sure if I adequately explained myself in the description, but if he has an arm cannon, I have an arm cannon. If he can shoot fire, so can I. But I wouldn't know what he has until I actually knew what he had. And could only copy the at time of transformation version.

Also feel free to pick a better name xD I'll admit Nark is growing on me, but I don't know if its good enough for a hero.

@The Whacko Hm. That could prove to be a bit problematic, since I'd like to get a relatively consistent art style among the characters of the RP. I'll update the OOC/Character Creation Rules to reflect that, since I feel as though I've inadvertently mislead you by being unclear. Apologies.

@Er0r Mimicry as a power is fine, but probably limit the strength of copied powers/abilities to being weaker than the original.

Energy Manipulation doesn't rule giving your character things such as magic, pyrokinesis, etc. It just means that you need to be specific about what type of energy your character is wielding, be it solar energy manipulation, plasma manipulation, magical energy, magnetism, ki energy, etc. "Energy Manipulation" is too vague, basically.

In regards to the character image choice, it's a similar situation to @The Whacko, in the sense that the appearance doesn't match up to target art style.

Also, while I don't mind people borrowing concepts/ideas from the DC Universe (The various dimensions come to mind, for example), straight-up importing characters 1:1 isn't quite what we're going for either. In other words, Trigon isn't actually present in the universe this roleplay takes place in.

@TBKrunk@Orange Juice@Rin

Just thought I should mention the people who expressed interest in the interest check.

You guys still here/interested?

Just thought I'd give a bit of an update: I have the basic concept for my character down but I'm struggling to find time to just sit down and write out the sheet. So yeah, there's a chance I won't be able to meet the deadline. I'll try my best to finish it but if I can't then that's too bad I guess.

(I'm usually not this busy but there's been some issues with my car as well as the registration on it that I've had to sort out).

@PokeWorking on it! I seem to have ended up making the Starfire of the group, only she's half-demon rather than an alien. XD

...So basically Starfire with Raven's background I guess. But we'll see how this turns out.
