Hello good people, I come before you today to propose a roleplay I have been thinking of for some time, based in the world of Changeling, one of the tabletop rpgs from the Chronicles of Darkness line. I'd be looking for about four or five people, depending on interest.
A brief description, for those not in the know: Changeling takes place in an urban fantasy setting where fairies are very much real and very much of the terrifying variety. Players are normal humans who were kidnapped by beings known as True Fae, powerful alien entities, and dragged back into the Fae realm of Arcadia to serve as slaves for whatever bizarre purpose their master has for them - pet, laborer, pit fighter, entertainment, living furniture, you name it. Changelings, as they are called, are invariably twisted and transformed by their time in Arcadia, becoming part fae, part human, and they're often scarred and traumatized by the horrors they endured. Sometimes, changelings manage to escape, returning to the mortal world as something both more and less than human to find that the world and often their loved ones have left them behind, and that's where the story starts. I'm simplifying a bit, but it's an interest check. You'll get a deeper summary in the OOC.
So, the game as I see it would be essentially a story about a small group of changelings in New York City who have all recently escaped the fairy world, and are brought together through mystical means to a kind of... support group / adventuring club. They would deal with both their own traumas and a variety of supernatural threats, with a tone generally a bit lighter than most games of changeling - it's a grim premise, but I'd want it to be clear that healing was possible. It would likely be fairly episodic, monster of the week in nature - I'd probably run the first few plots, as I have some ideas, but players could eventually submit and run their own if they want. I'm relaxed about stuff like that. Also, I'd streamline the bajeezus out of a lot of the 'gamier' elements of the setting, so we wouldn't have to worry about experience and skill points and traits and dice rolls and stuff like that getting in the way of storytelling and character development.
So, who'd be interested in a high-casual game of horror and beautiful madness, of hurt and healing, heavily informed by poetry and song and folklore? A game of character development, friendship, adventure, mystery-solving and faerie fighting? A sort of Jessica Jones meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Pan's Labyrinth type game? Anyone?
