Just for clarity, the price Diana is charging is roughly equivalent to half a million US dollars, using the exchange rate mentioned before (assuming I counted the 0s correctly).

I feel like that exchange rate needs to be adjusted. That's a pretty terrible currency for a place like to UFP to have.

If we keep comparing it to real currencies (inadvisable), it's considerably stronger than the Yen, the Ruble or the Rupee. Inflation's probably been going on for a lot longer around here too- But a Federation credit is still stronger against today's dollar than today's dollar is against a 1900 dollar.

Not to mention the price of goods have probably changed quite a bit, given that production is faster and cheaper.

I mean, the ratio's right there on the first page. 60 : 1100. That's just above 1 : 20 and six times stronger than the Japanese Yen is now.

The ratio is arbitrary because it can afford to be. It's simple and it's realistic, and I don't want the in-game currency to be a lame ripoff of the dollar or pound that most English writers are used to.

If you'd rather write a fictional world whose subtle details are actually just a copy of what you see every day, suit yourself.
