History: The Ashton family has had a long history of serving Kanto patriotically, first and foremost. His father? A decorated Blackhat Ranger Major. His grandfather? A Kantonese Navy Sailor. His grandmother? A military nurse. His uncle? A now imprisoned, former director of A.C.E. Perhaps, the last on the list isn't a perfect example of a role-model to uphold but it doesn't matter.
A future military career was in Willis's blood and he couldn't resist the temptation.
Willis Robert Ashton was born in Pallet Town to Robert Ashton, whose accolades as a impressive private investigator in Interpol and a Blackhat Major earned him a retirement in the cozy valley country town, and Marissa Mason, a Pecha Berry Farmer. His father, tired with the long life of conflict and shedding his blood for Kanto's needs, wanted a safe, humble life in Pallet Town, despite the fact it was a downgrade from his former position of a Blackhat Ranger. A fresh start with a new pallet of paint for his painting. Safety and sanctity was all that mattered to Robert and if anyone came to ruin that, there would be a price to pay.
Unfortunately, it was his son who wanted to pay the price.
Willis was a hot-blooded, arrogant ruffian at his age, pumped full of aggression and a sense of justice like his old man. He attended the Pallet 2nd Precinct Public School from first grade to high-school where teachers often reported him for excessive acts of vigilantism against bullies and 'sociopathic violent behavior'. Robert was at his wits end. He didn't know how to communicate with his son nor did he know how to interact with him. He was ashamed to be the boy's father. Eventually, after a long argument with his wife, Robert decided that maybe he couldn't interact with him as Robert Ashton, the countryside berry farmer but his former identity, the Ratel, the psuedonym associated with his former lifestyle as a Blackhat Ranger could.
In order to curb Willis's pent up aggression and re-purpose it towards a more useful purpose, Robert took his son out to weekly excursions in the Viridian Forest and acted as an impromptu drill sergeant, training him in numerous Blackhat skills such as cartography, hunting, strategic pokemon-battling, cooking, rope-tying and hand to hand combat in hopes that he could restrain Willis's blood-thirsty nature. It did. For a while. Until Willis revealed his ambitions of becoming a Ranger. Just like his Dad. Without his permission.
Needless to say, Daddy wasn't happy with his son's future life prospects. He knew that one day, Willis was going to retire from a Ranger. Either with a bang or with a whimper. The problem was how the experience of retirement was going to be. All that Robert felt he could do morally was to support his son on his decision and hope that he wouldn't fall far from grace.
Willis rose to the non-commissioned rank of Corporal during his tenure in the Ranger Corps, specializing in the role of an Infantry Reconnaissance Unit. Willis made himself known as 'The Badger', a lesser mirror image of his father's nickname in the Corps, 'The Ratel'. While he was respected in the Corps as a able Ranger who knew the importance of what was at stake, veterans would mercilessly tease him about being related to one of the greatest Rangers in the Ranger Corps and how he would live up to his dad's legacy.
Willis decided to ante up. Anger and stress can do strange things to one mind. Make them unpredictable. Irrational.
He went to the Colonel's office and applied for SO training, commonly known as Special Operations Training. One of the most gung-ho and dangerous training programs within the Ranger Corps that promised to make recruits able to take down an Nidoking with a knife and a beret only in hand to hand combat and make them virtually indestructible.
Too bad that it had a 75% fatality rate at the most.
The details are sketchy but at the end of the program, let's just say Willis survived. But he didn't succeed. While his old man retired from the corps due to psychological trauma, Willis retired from the Corps at the ripe young age of 20 due to physiological trauma. His entire body was like a rag-doll, mauled and nearly torn to shreds by a Ursaring. His left arm was missing and once more, he just wasn't the same anymore.
The Corps couldn't use a body like that. And so, they tossed his body out into the gutter, with a cardboard box of all his belongings and a muddy beret. The experience had completely curbed Willis's desire for violence and his previous fire had now simmered into a smoking wick. Doused. At its end. He was lost. Lame. He walked back home to Pallet with a heavy head, wondering what to tell to his old man. He couldn't bear facing his dad like this. What would he tell him?
That the Ranger Corps had no future for him. But, maybe, the Pokemon League had a future for him and his broken body. Without the knowledge of his dad, Willis signed up for the P.T.A.E and the 1050th Seasonal Indigo Pokemon League, believing that it's his only chance to derive some sense of redemption for his fall of grace. While he doesn't want to admit it and doesn't believe it to be true, Willis subconciously believes that becoming a League Finalist is the only way of making his old man proud of him and measuring him to his achievements.
Because, once you've caught them all...., nothing can catch you off your guard. Ever again.
Exam Proctor Report:
Applicant 117464, Willis Robert Ashton, displays an unfound vast in mental fortitude during the practical aspects of the exam. During mock battles and simulated wild pokemon encounters, he was one of the few rare candidates who never lost his composure, almost to the point of being emotionally insensate, and exhibits a strategic mindset when battling. Despite the lack of compassion and worry towards his starter mon, it is this proctor's report that this applicant has the most potential for succeeding in League-sanctioned unrestricted format matches. Due to his Ranger Corps Background, this applicant has one of the highest scores in the P.T.A.E by far, above average in all skill categories essential for a Trainer to survive in the League, especially Wilderness Survival and Species Recognition.
However, it is prominent in the Practical Section of the Examinations that this applicant obstinance when it comes to his physical abilities may be his future downfall. While he is not physically hampered by his past injuries to the point of being physically inferior to a majority of candidates, it is obvious that he is not living up to the supposed regimented physical routines that Rangers are touted for. He is unable to run for more than a mile without breaking out of breath and risks injuring himself if he pushes himself beyond his standard physical abilities.

League Code: 95%

Confirmation of Starter Mon: Thrush - Oddish. Height: 2 feet. Weight: 30 pounds. Origin: Home-Bred. Gender: Male Status of Evolution: Near-evolution.
Pokemon Bio: Thrush is a G.I warmon produced by Waterloo Facilities as a means of serving a Ranger on a field. His enhanced physiological capabilities and the amount of unorthodox ways that an Oddish can be used to survive in the wild means that Thrush is above the average norm for his species as a whole.
Thrush is subservient and loyal to Willis, willing to sacrifice and die for his commander, and has no noticable personality traits due to being a Chloroplism.
