Brooks - The Bait Shop

“don’t worry Pal I also plan on spending abit here but with the atom attack we are gonna need all the guns and ammo available ... err do you know where Sandra is? She’s not in the shop”

"Might have taken off for a bit what with the recent hubbub going down at the docks. I expect she'd be back soon though." Brooks replied.

James then reached into his overcoat’s pocket and pulled out a bag of caps and two cartons of smokes “I’ll go find her in a minute in the meanwhile however I’ll 100 rounds of 10mm & a Mag, 4 combat amour chest pieces, 32 units of lead, 6 bottle of wondeglue and about 20 screws. Or if you have the leaded combat chest pieces I’ll just take them instead, will save me the trouble and time of having to assemble them.”

"I've got one old piece of combat armor for sale someone managed to scavenge up and that's it," Brooks replied, "This town ain't exactly swimming in military surplus after all. I've can probably get a few makeshift metal ones whipped up for you though. Almost as good as the real thing. The rest of the stuff I think I can pull together pretty easily. That'll be 800 caps total."

Sandra Lee - Lee's Guns and Ammo

After finishing his business at Brooks James followed his instructions and found Sandra lee "excuse me, Sandra lee? Is your store still open I'd like to buy some guns and ammo."

A sullen looking woman stepped up to the counter and looked James in the eye,

"I suppose so. But make it quick, I want to get everything locked up before nightfall."

James Williams-Far Harbour

"I've got one old piece of combat armour for sale someone managed to scavenge up and that's it," Brooks replied, "This town ain't exactly swimming in military surplus after all. I've can probably get a few makeshift metal ones whipped up for you though. Almost as good as the real thing. The rest of the stuff I think I can pull together pretty easily. That'll be 800 caps total."

“I thought there was a navy base on this island? Never mind I suppose metal plates will get the job done just as well enough.” James replied as he took two smaller pouches out of his cap bag, each with 500 caps inside and began to take 200 caps out of one of them along with putting the smokes back in his pocket to use another time.

1200 left but that should be enough for the guns.

Gathering up all the items James placed them in his backpack. It would take some time to make and then attach/apply the lead lining plates (ooc: not sure it’s an coating or extra plate?) and the gun store would be closing anytime now, thus James had decided to buy the guns and then get that handyman guy Steve to help make the plates.

Maybe get TG or brotherhood too...

Later on - Lee's Guns and Ammo

After finishing his business at Brooks James followed his instructions and found Sandra lee "excuse me, Sandra lee? Is your store still open I'd like to buy some guns and ammo."

“Don’t worry this will be quick, I need two of those level action rifles and about... 200 bullets.”

"Hmm. Sure thing," Sandra said gruffly as she pulled down the rifles and slapped a few boxes of .45-70 ammunition on the counter, "That'll be 1300 caps. I hope you've got the money to cover that up-front because I don't do IOU's with mainlanders. Harbormen only."

James Williams- Gun shop Dealing
No way it's that expensive... Must be overcharging me

"Seems abit steep." James replied "Especially since I plan on using these weapons to defend the town, like I did with Connie earlier on when she was attacked by a feral wolf." (Discount check?)

regardless of whenever Sandra gave an discount or not paying 1300 caps would drain/was more than his current cap supply and it was unlikely James would find another Vault of dead gangsters to loot.... he needed something he could trade to reduce the price..

The shotgun...

"I'll back minute, just need to fetch something."

After killing Bishop James had stashed his shotgun, since if he started using it rose and perhaps a few other islanders like Connie would ask where he got it but as far as James knew Sandra hadn't seen it and once sold it would just become another one of shotguns Sandra had for sale.

Should be able to get 100 or maybe even 150 caps for this...

checking to see he wasn't been watched (sneak check) James reached behind the barrel he stashed the shotgun, picking it up he returned to Sandra's gun store and placed the shotgun and his cap bag on the table "You should easily be able to get 200 caps if not more this, so 150? for the shotgun and the rest of the bill I'll pay in caps." (Sale check?)

After finishing his dealings with Sandra James made his way back over to where Steve, Brotherhood (and maybe Tour guide Connie) where working on that brotherhood transmitter and seemlying managed to get to work judging by the beeping.

"It works", Steve said happily. "if we had the time using the tracker and the radio we could probably triangulate the position to within a stone's throw but time is something we don't have. If we're going to get the armour and weapons, at least, we need to go in the next few minutes. Once everyone's back, we need to go if we're going to do this. What do you guys think?" Steve asked in concluded

"No need, I've done abit of shopping already" Steve interrupted as he walked into the area "You can pay me back with one of power armour suits... and maybe a plasma rifle." he chuckled on

Opening up his backpack James placed the chest plates and leading lining materials down on a nearby table. Turning to Steve James passed him one the level action rifles and several boxes of .45-70 ammo (ooc: 100 rounds.)

"Shop only had one combat chest piece, probably should give that to TGC if she only has an pistol.... Anyway For everyone I got these metal plates, heavier yes but should stop slighter more damage oh and since we are fighting the atom fruitcakes I brought supplies to make lead lining... should give us abit extra protection against those zapper things they use but if we are heading out soon I'm gonna need your help Steve to make them."
Doing two each will be faster..

"Also got Tou-Connie 10m magazines and some bullets” James added on “I'll give those to her later on.” OR (if she is there) “Here you go” Steve said as he pasted the bullets & Mag to her.

OOC: Did a 50/50 roll for the discount. Failed that one. Sneak check I gave a 5/6 chance for success. Passed that one. Did another 50/50 check for barter and failed that one as well. But since its just an easy trade, I won't punish James that much.

Sandra Lee - Lee's Guns and Ammo

"Seems abit steep." James replied "Especially since I plan on using these weapons to defend the town, like I did with Connie earlier on when she was attacked by a feral wolf."

"Is that so?" Sandra replied, unimpressed, "Well then you should probably know her name is Corrine and not Connie. You ain't fooling me mainlander. You think you're getting overcharged? Well you are. To anyone else on the island it'd be 1,000 caps but you get the mainlander tax because well, thats how it works around here. At least in my store."

"I'll back minute, just need to fetch something."

"Yeah sure take your time, not like I'm trying to close up or anything..." Sandra replied.

After a few minutes the mainlander returned toting a shotgun, "You should easily be able to get 200 caps if not more this, so 150? for the shotgun and the rest of the bill I'll pay in caps."

Sandra looked it over, "Doesn't look like much....but fine, I'll give you something for it. 100 caps, take it or leave it."

Sandra put all the guns and ammo in a small burlap sack and handed it over to James once he'd forked over the rest of the caps,

"Here. Now let me close up for the night." She said gruffly.

"It works", Steve said happily. "if we had the time using the tracker and the radio we could probably triangulate the position to within a stone's throw but time is something we don't have. If we're going to get the armor and weapons, at least, we need to go in the next few minutes. Once everyone's back, we need to go if we're going to do this. What do you guys think?" Steve asked in concluded.

Corrine visibly paled at the mention of leaving at night. If the most Island experienced one of them was afraid, then what did that say about the viability of the mission? Still, he would try to remain confident. Night ops in the Capital Wasteland hadn’t been anything to dismiss easily, and Lyon’s pride had been sent on them several times. “Sounds good to me”, James replied. “I need to put on my Brotherhood outfit for armor(OOC far left staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/mods/115… )
, even if it is dirty. The material is thick enough to offer some protection.”

Corrine took a slow breath. "I'll...go get my things. Be back at the gate in thirty minutes."

He nodded “I’ll be at the gate soon too.”, he turned to Steve “either of us could operate the device, though I have more weapons. It might be best if my hands weren’t full.”

With that said, he left the gun shop. The orange the sunset had cast on the town was mostly gone. The light was fading and Far Harbor citizens were hurriedly barring their doors. Children and pets were grabbed from the street and pulled inside, guns were being prepped, and women were rushing to bring buckets of water and food scraps inside. People threw him anxious glances as he he made his way, but everyone was in too much of a rush or fright to stop him. It didn’t take long to change and gather every useful thing he had. His duffel bag to carry whatever they found, a military flashlight, his weapons, and a key to open the hardboxes in the vertibird.

As he made his way to the gate, he half wondered what he would do if any of his brothers had survived. He had been so preoccupied with getting ready for this mission, that he hadn’t considered it’s implications. Scavenging brotherhood gear and giving it to strangers was a serious break with the rules. Those few who were in the bird would resist violently to such a plan, and he wasn’t sure if he trusted the townsfolk all the way… No. he would do what he had to to protect the innocent. If any of them got in his way he would deal with them.

He reached Corrine by the gate. She looked highly anxious, but grim and ready. He remembered knights looking the same way before combat against the Enclave. Reminding them of their training worked sometimes to give them confidence. “You have the most experience out of all of us with the island.”, he said frankly to Corrine. “I know that doesn’t mean you often spend time outside the walls at night, but it still should mean you’re better equipped than any of us to deal with this.”, he was silent for a couple minutes, letting her thoughts or replies play out. Then he tried to move off topic to calm the suspense. “How’s your relationship with Steve? He seems like a good man”.

CORRINE DOOLAK - Gate at The Hull

Her body felt like it was buzzing. Corrine rubbed her knuckles, both out of habit, and as a nervous fidget. How long had she been standing there? Where was Steve? Where was...anyone?

The sun was almost completely set. Her duffle bag of scant affairs was starting to feel heavy. She shifted her weight between her feet. Approaching footsteps caused her to turn, her heart doing a jump as she hoped it was Steve.

It was Castner.

“You have the most experience out of all of us with the island.”, he said as greeting to Corrine. “I know that doesn’t mean you often spend time outside the walls at night, but it still should mean you’re better equipped than any of us to deal with this.”

"Uh. Right," she offered as paltry response. "Generations of us have been told...been conditioned, to stay in after dark. The fog is disorienting on any given day. Add some scant moonlight and foolishness and you have a death wish," Corrine finished, bitterly. She paused. "I know my way around, that much is true. An' I'm committed to helping us succeed to the best of my...ability. Or, whatever." Corrine turned her gaze to her toes.

Castner replied on a different topic. “How’s your relationship with Steve? He seems like a good man."

Steve. Her body relaxed at the thought of him. She tried not to blush too hard, but it was impossible. "I only met him this afternoon," she admitted. "He was soft spoken and polite. Then, it turns out, he's smart, an' good at fixing things. Plus, he seems to like me, enough." She turned her gaze back up towards Castner's face, smiling sheepishly. "I don't know if it's just that I haven't felt like that in a long time, or if he's the real deal, but I..." She crossed her arms, pulling her coat tighter around her body. "I hope we live to see tomorrow, and many more."

She rolled her shoulders back. "Why do you ask, though?"

An' I'm committed to helping us succeed to the best of my...ability. Or, whatever." Corrine turned her gaze to her toes.

He only nodded to that, recognizing that his attempt to motivate had failed. It was always Sarah’s job wasn't it? He suddenly felt strangely awkward. Earnest conversations like this had been few and far between for him since Maxson’s rule.

He thought he could see her cheeks turn red in the moonlight when he asked her about Steve. "I only met him this afternoon," she admitted. "He was soft spoken and polite. Then, it turns out, he's smart, an' good at fixing things. Plus, he seems to like me, enough." She turned her gaze back up towards Castner's face, smiling sheepishly. This time his nod was knowing when he lacked words. It was like how it had been years ago. Standing at the Citadel gates, Colleen telling him she hoped they would live to see the future after the crawler was destroyed, he told her they would if they trusted Lyons and their training, she nodded and he nodded when they should have held eachother, and they went to work.

Colleen broke the reflection. "Why do you ask, though?"

He didn't say anything for a long moment. He had repressed those memories for a long time, and he was abashed he was being triggered like this. But when he spoke again there was an unfamiliar emotional quality to his voice, “You just need to hold him close, and enjoy the moments you have.”, he answered unsteadily, fighting to regain composure and succeeding. His tone returned to normal “Now, the device seemed to point west.(OOC not 100% sure on Far Harbor geography, and I suppose the status of the Vertibird is up to Andro) I'm guessing heading directly there isn't a good option. What's the safest route to head that direction?”

Steve Miller - Lee's Gun Shop

“Sounds good to me”, James replied. “I need to put on my Brotherhood outfit for armor, even if it is dirty. The material is thick enough to offer some protection.”

"I'll...go get my things", Corrine said, visibly nervous about the idea. "Be back at the gate in thirty minutes."

“I’ll be at the gate soon too.”, James said with a nod, he then turned to Steve. “Either of us could operate the device, though I have more weapons. It might be best if my hands weren’t full.”

"I'll hold onto it, then", Steve replied. "Need to pick up something then I'll be right down."

Steve then headed back to the Last Plank, and entered the bar, ignoring a couple of snickers as he jogged up the stairs to his room. He removed his pistol belt, wrapping it around the holster the .45 revolver was in then set it on the bed and then rummaged around in his haversack, pulling out another holstered revolver, a box of .38 shells, and some .357 on speedloaders. He put on the other belt, and stuck the ammunition in his left coat pocket. He then searched further until he found his compass, a old metal cased military model on a lanyard. He looped the lanyard around his neck then put the compass in a shirt pocket. He then emptied the haversack on the bed, then placed the items in the dresser, and slung the haversack over his shoulder. He then left, locking the door behind him, and left the bar and headed for the docks. On his way to the gate, he saw the Enclaver talking to a sour faced woman at the gun shop...apparently she was the owner.

"You should easily be able to get 200 caps if not more this, so 150? for the shotgun", he said to her as he handed her a old Combat Shotgun butt first, "...and the rest of the bill I'll pay in caps."

"Doesn't look like much....", the woman said, as she examined the weapon with a critical eye, "..but fine, I'll give you something for it. 100 caps, take it or leave it."

She then put all the guns and ammo in a small burlap sack and handed it over to James once he handed her a bag a caps.

"Here", she said gruffly as she handed him the bag, "Now let me close up for the night."

She began closing up the stall as the Enclaver noticed him. He pulled a lever action rifle out of the bag and handed it to him, followed by five boxes of shells. Steve took a quick look at the rifle, which appeared to be worn but well cared for. On the barrel was stamped "Marlin Model 1895 Caliber .45-70 Gov't."

"Thanks", Steve said, "but it's going to be a while before I can pay you back for this..."

"You can pay me back with one of power armour suits... and maybe a plasma rifle." The Enclaver replied with a chuckle.

"You'll have to take that up with James", Steve replied, "He has more of a claim on that stuff than Corrine and I do. Speaking of them, they are waiting for us at the gate....lets go."

As Steve approached, he saw Corrine and James waiting there for them. He walked up and stopped. He didn't really want to go out there, but there seemed to be no choice.

"Looks like we're all here...so lets get this show on the road", Steve said, doing his best to hide his apprehension as he turned on the device, and took a bearing with the compass on the direction it was in. He then pointed in the direction that the signal was coming from. "It's that way....what would be the best way to proceed, Corrine?"

CORRINE DOOLAK - gates at The Hull - late eveningtime or close enough

Castner seemed...unprepared for her question. It took him a moment to respond. “You just need to hold him close, and enjoy the moments you have.”, he answered quietly.

Corrine suspected he wasn't speaking entirely empirically, but didn't press him further. "Thanks, I will."

“Now, the device seemed to point west. I'm guessing heading directly there isn't a good option. What's the safest route to head that direction?”

Corrine couldn't help but give a sly smile. "Truth is, there ain't a direct route to anywhere from here. The town's kinda tacked on to the northeast side of the whole damn island."

Approaching footsteps caused her to turn. Steve and James were finally joining them. Steve drew up to the gate and pulled a dead stop. He walked up and stopped. He didn't really want to go out there, but there seemed to be no choice.

"Looks like we're all here...so lets get this show on the road", Steve said, as he turned on the device, and took a bearing with the compass on the direction it was in. He then pointed in the direction that the signal was coming from. "It's that way....what would be the best way to proceed, Corrine?"

"The road," she replied tersely, though more out of nerves than anything else. "Traditionally, only real danger along the road were the Trapper holdings. They'd set up outposts to try an' waylay travellers. Lucky fer us, seems the fog claimed the lot o' them." Corrine stooped to pick up her duffle bag, then motioned west. "Shall we?" She nodded at Castner. "Maybe it makes sense fer you to lead? Yer the one who knows what we're lookin' for."

She turned to Steve, some look of wanting in her eyes. There were a million things she wanted to say, before they set out, but none of the words would come. She reflected on the last thing Castner had said, before asking her the route. "Keep him close."

"You don't have to be at the front of the line fer that thing to work, right? Why don't we let James an' James take the lead." She slung the strap of her bag over her shoulder and gripped her spear. Despite the fact the pistol worked, she just didn't feel comfortable out on the island without her usual weapon. There was no way she would traverse into the dark without it.

"Remember, just stay on the road," she called ahead. Corrine looked to Steve again, wearing a sad smile. "So...here we go..."

Captain James William- Armour giving!

"Looks like we're all here...so let’s get this show on the road", Steve said, as he turned on the device, and took a bearing with the compass on the direction it was in.

“Whilst Steve is getting that sorted I got everyone armour and modified it with lead plating, should help with those rad zapper things the atom fruitcake use.” James stated as he handed out the metal armour plates Connie and Brotherhood (OOC: gonna assume he already have Steve his) with James giving Connie the combat armour.

“Only had one combat chest piece... but the rest of us should be able to make do with metal plates until we get to the power armour....”

As Brotherhood put the armour and Connie (as foolish islander) stubbornly refused too Steve managed to pinpoint the direction that the signal was coming from. "It's that way....what would be the best way to precede, Corrine?"

Connie suggested following the road, which would hopefully be mostly clear due to the fog driving away “trappers” whoever they where and asked who should lead? And suggested James and Brotherhood. "You don't have to be at the front of the line fer that thing to work, right? Why don't we let James an' James take the lead."

Probably for the best...

“Well we do probably have the most combat experience and in brotherhood’s case the better weapon but make sure nothing sneaks up on Steve if he’s gonna be focusing on that radar device...”
Or us for that matter

Drawing his new purchased 1895 level action rifle James turned to brotherhood “Let’s get moving before it gets too dark to see the road.” He stated before slowly walking down off the dock and into what use to be the town of far harbour....or perhaps it was called something else before the bombs?

"Remember, just stay on the road,"

“Main Road might be the safest route but I someone doubt your vetibird would have conveniently crashed next to it for us...Perhaps we could find a side road or something to follow?"

better than wandering off the Road..

West Road - Outside of Far Harbor

Tentatively, the group left the relative safety of The Hull and made their way west, sticking to Corrine's plan of keeping to the road whenever possible. They crossed into the fog-shrouded ruins of old Bar Harbor where the rotting buildings loomed overhead like twisted monsters all their own. The oncoming darkness of twilight mixed with the ever present fog to reduce their visibility to almost zero, which had the added consequence of causing them to jump at nearly every sound or imagine any number of lurking horrors in the shadows, waiting to pounce.

They passed through the town without incident (OOC: roll passed) and moved on to the western road, which led up to the small pond where the town had drawn most of its water from, although now the condensers lining the road to the reservoir were rusted and falling apart, as the residents had been unable to maintain them. It served as another stark reminder that the town was living on borrowed time, as sooner or later the water would likely be cut off.

The device indicates that the downed vertibird is close, perhaps a few hundred yards away, but the thick fog makes it impossible to see it. As the group approaches the reservoir, a number of glowing stalks can be seen lighting the pond, casting a sickly orange glow over the whole scene.

However, they start to get too close to the glowing stalks, perhaps out of curiosity or because some of them don't know any better, but suddenly there's a rumbling beneath their feet and they can see one of the glowing plants shaking violently above the surface of the water.

A creature bursts forth from the depths of the pond, a massive deformed blue tinted Angler with a gaping maw lined with razor sharp teeth glares at them. Its teeth are caked in the rotting gore of its past kills, and its breath is absolutely foul. The Angler gives a loud roar and spits out a disgusting mass of something at them, right at James C. Thanks to his instinctual reaction honed from years in the Brotherhood however, James is able to dodge the stinking radioactive spit of the creature. (OOC: Roll passed).

The Angler gives another roar and lurches forward, charging at the nearest individual in the group: James W. The creature takes a swipe at him with one of its malformed claw-like hands and it tears right through his armor and into his flesh. Sensing blood, it looks ready to pounce on the Enclave captain and finish the kill...(OOC: Roll critical fail)

(OOC: in case anyone is wondering, what I did there was assign each group member a number and then roll twice to see who would be targeted. The two Jameses were the ones that got picked. Then I did an equal-chance roll on both of them to see whether or not the attacks would succeed and how severe it would be.)

James William- James Vs the ugly Motherfucking creature at Night- Road

“Can’t see shit in fog...”

Leaving the dock the group was able to get though the remains of far harbour town without incident; it would appear Connie had been correct about the “Trappers” moving on and moved onto some type of per-war road. A short distance down the road the group approach what appeared to be a pond or perhaps reservoir? And judging by the various...Now rusted (And perhaps damaged since tracker indicated the vetibird had crashed somewhat close) condensers which presumably was or had been a key supply of water for the dock.

“Is this where you get water from?” James asked. If this was the only source of water then islanders where going to have to find another one.... perhaps whatever the atom cultist used? It’s not like their water could be any worst. Looking at the reservoir as they approached it James could see a number of seemlying glowing (and likey radiated) stalks... include one that began to move...

Before James could react the ground began to rubble, the moving plant James had saw violently shook up to surface of the water as some sort motherfucking ugly creature which had the glowing plant as horn of sort busted out of the water. The foul breath and rotting gore in its teeth suggested it hadn’t come to give them a ride across the pond.

Is that some sort of mutated frog?
Cocking his rifle James fired at the creature as it gave a loud roar and spat out some of last night’s dinner (or perhaps it was lunch?) at Brotherhood but thankfully he was able to Dodge the air flying gore... James however was not so lucky.

The UM creature roared again before charging at James and swiping at him with one of its malformed claw-like hands and stuck his left arm. James hadn’t brought arm armour at the shop, his coat didn't protect against this and his officer’s armour had been damaged since the brotherhood ambush several years ago. All this enabled the creature to easily tear though, crawling into James’s skin and knocking him back in the process.

Lying on the floor James glanced to his left... His arm was still attached but he oddly couldn't feel "all" of it but what he could feel HURT! and was difficult to move. looking at where the UM creature James could see several large claw sized slashes had dung deep into it his arm and were bleeding badly....

WARNING! 0b1111100111 Critical damage received Distress signal sent to Bureau 0b1111100111 0b1111100111

“arrgh.. fuck the distress signal I’m not dead yet.” James muttered to himself as he turned to face the Ugly motherfucking creature which had seemlying sensed James’s blood and looked ready to pounce.

"Fuck fuck fuck.... where’s my gun?"

With his rifle out of reach and pistol locked in its hostel James desperately search around his mangled arm for sawn-off shotgun, finding it just as the UM creature began to pounce James fired both barrels into the UM creature...

They easily passed through the crumbling pre-war edifices. They were oddly unnerving. He’d confidently made his way through the streets of D.C. for years in this same sickly twilight. But this was something different. Downtown D.C. had been all scorched earth, a dead land. Here he could sense there was sinister life behind every stone, with only malicious intent towards the invaders who trekked through their eldritch world.

Though the fog was thick, he could see they were approaching a shallow body of water engineered to be a water source. Fog condensers around the reservoir were rusted and dead, but there was a source of soft orange light coming from some weeds…

The earth shook, suddenly and violently, as a deformed monster burst from the pond. Before he could fire Shark, the monster roared an ear splitting challenge and launched radioactive spit directly at him. He remembered a behemoth’s tossed concrete block as he threw himself to the side, dodging the attack.

He quickly got up as another roar punctured the air. The monster savaged the Enclaver, and was preparing to pounce again. Even though they had once been enemies in a war for the wasteland itself, he instinctively drew Bear from it’s holster to defend his new comrade and fired three .44 shots at the creature...

The crew trudged over the broken pavement through the fog and the quickly darkening surroundings. Corrine had clutched her jacket around her body as tightly as she could while they walked. The pistol in her pocket felt heavy and awkward. She hoped she wouldn't ever have to use it. She was really grateful that Steve had cleaned and repaired her father's old pistol, and she was fairly certain he'd done it out of a genuine want for her to be protected -- yet she didn't at all have the heart to ever tell him she didn't want to carry it and hated the thought of it.

She swallowed her feelings and kept on.

Corrine stole a glance or two towards him as they walked, unable to read his expression. Perhaps that was just as well.

They made their way past the water purifier, chugging along in the reservoir. Corrine, not used to babysitting mainlanders, neglected to warn both James' about the potential for the little glowing stalks to be wildlife, and sure enough, an angler emerged.

The scene erupted so quickly, Corrine would perhaps never be able to piece together all of the details in her mind. The Fog had that effect on humans. Castner managed to evade being wounded, but James wouldn't be so lucky. There was so much blood, and screaming, Corrine suspected the angler had ripped the arm clean off.

Castner aimed and fired at the angler. Corinne cried out, twirling her spear over her head, then lunging towards the creature. She hoped the gunshot would distract it enough for her to tear a hole or two into the angler's side.

"Cover me!" she called to Steve, finding dexterity in the adrenaline pounding through her temples. Corrine thrust towards the angler, aiming for the soft spot behind its head in its neck.

Steve Miller - Far Harbor

The abandoned and rotting buildings of the pre-war town...called Bar Harbor according to the peeling signs....loomed up out of the fog as they trudged down the road. It was a downright creepy sight...Steve shuddered a bit even though he felt a odd warm feeling every time the fog touched him. Soon, they passed beyond the perimeter of working condensers, now the ones they passed by were silent and from a cursory glance, much worse for wear. Steve thought it might be worth it to retrieve some later and see if he could puzzle out how they work. From what he heard, the locals had relied on Acadia to provide the things....with them gone they had to figure out how to make them themselves, and fast.

Corrine was the only one of them who had real knowledge of the lay of the land, and from her body language, she was not at all thrilled to be out here. Neither was he...or the others....but he saw little choice. The people back at the docks had been making no preparations that he could see to repel an attack...for that matter, he could hear one of the sentries on the Hull snoring when they had left, which made him question whether they even took the Cultist's threats seriously. The equipment on the Vertibird should give them the edge they needed to buy time to get some real defenses in place...then perhaps they could figure out just what they were up against.

After they cleared the town, the needle on the devices gauge began to climb steadily. They were near...maybe less than a quarter of a mile....but outside the condensers the fog was so thick they could only see a few dozen yards. Soon, a pond became visible ahead...the line of silent condensers leading to it. The pipes running into it suggested that it was the settlement's water supply. Steve was no soldier, but he knew a vulnerability when he saw one....without condensers it would be simple for a Enemy to cut off their fresh water supply.

"We're not far", Steve said, pointing in the direction the signal was coming from, "About two-tenths of a mile, best I can estimate."

“Can’t see shit in fog...”, the Enclaver said as he wandered towards the edge of the pond. Suddenly, the ground began to rumble. Steve stuffed the tracker in his haversack and just as he reached for the leather sling of his rifle, a large mutated creature popped out of the water, roaring a challenge, then spat something at James, who dodged it with catlike grace, drawing his revolver. It then lunged forward, and knocked the Enclaver off his feet with a single mighty blow, sending his rifle clattering along the ground.

"Fuck fuck fuck....", the Enclaver yelled as the creature moved towards him, "Where’s my gun?"

Shots began to ring out as James began firing his revolver at the fetid smelling creature, and the Enclaver forgot about his rifle for the moment and reached for a sidearm. As Steve readied his rifle, he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. Corrine was rushing forwards, a spear in hand.

"Cover me!", she shouted at him as she moved to work her way behind it. Steve worked the lever to chamber a round as he brought it up to his shoulder. He took aim at where his best guess of where it's heart and lungs were and fired, chambered another round, and fired a second shot as quickly as he could. He then chambered another round and took careful aim at it's head, ready to fire again if necessary.

The Angler vs. Group

(OOC: Tried to do this as fair as I could think. I gave an equal chance for each of the team to miss, hit, or critically hit the monster and assigned a hit point value to it as well. Hit was -1 and critical hit was -2. Also gave the creature a chance to counter-attack on everyone but James W., since he's already been critically injured.)

With the wounded Enclave Captain lying on the ground and reaching for his shotgun, the monstrous creature moves in for the kill and pounces on top of him. James fires off both shots of his double barrel and they both hit home, staggering the angler slightly and making it rethink its choice of food. (OOC: critical hit for James W).

The rest of the group then lunges into action, with James C. leveling his rifle and firing three shots at the Angler. Each of the shots hits home, but compared with the hulking mass of the mutated fish, the .44 bullets are unable to bring the beast down, although it now sports some obvious gunshot wounds from where the bullets tore into it. (OOC: hit for James C.) Unfortunately, the Angler is quickly able to spit up another stinking mass of radioactive swamp sludge at him, and this time it hits its mark. James C. is covered in an ugly paste and his thrown back from the impact. (OOC: angler attack success).

Corrine is able to use the temporary distraction caused by the shots to get in close and thrust her spear at the Angler's neck. Owning to her skill as a fisher-woman and a hunter, she's able to successfully drive the spear point home, but the creature's unusually thick hide, which is strange even for an Angler, prevents her from getting the killing blow she was no doubt looking for. (OOC: hit for Corrine) Instead, the Angler lets out a frightening water-logged gurgle of pain before swiping at Corrine with one of its large hands and sending her crashing to the ground. (OOC: angler attack success). It then pulls out the spear she'd embedded in its hide, and in a horrific display of intelligence, throws it at Corrine as if trying to skewer her. It thankfully misses.

Finally, Steve raises his pistol, takes careful aim and fires, hoping to strike a vulnerable spot. His first bullet hits home and the angler reels in pain and clutches at the spot where the bullet entered. Now badly wounded, the angler immediately quickly begins to turn and run off into the fog. Steve's next shots miss the creature by a hair, but a trail of blue-green blood can be found on the ground following in the frantic beast's wake. (OOC: hit for Steve, angler attack failure. All in all, wasn't enough to kill it, but badly wound it).

James Williams- The retreat of the ugly mcfishface monster

Pushing the latch James popped open the sawn-off shotgun, placing the gun on his chest he pulled out the spend shotgun shells as ugly mcfishface monster thing spat out more of yesterday's diner but this time hitting Brotherhood before turning its attention to tour guide who had just speared the creature.

As ugly mcfishface let out a frightening water-logged gurgle of pain before swiping at Corrine with one of its large hands and sending her crashing to the ground.

Shells shells where are the shells..

Reaching into his jacket pocket James took out to fresh shells, popping them into the shotgun he picked the gun up, flipping the barrel shut he got read to aim again when ugly mcfishface, having just been shot by Steve quickly ran into the fog.

“That’s right fuck off!” James chuckled before sighing in relief and dropped the shotgun back onto his chest… he’d just barely avoided become whatever the fuck that was lunch but James couldn’t sit and relax, his arm was still bleeding..

“Hey can someone help me up?”

Brotherhood who had now cleaned some of the gunk off himself walked over and helped and helped James onto his feet. Taking off his backpack James sat down on a semi-comfortable looking rock which for the most part had avoided being covered in blood.

Opening up his backpack James took out a small white box which had “United States Army, Enclave general purpose bandages.” Written on the top, with a slightly faded “E” symbol in the corner. "anyone need bandages? got some here."

Placing the box on his lap and opening it James took out a bandage and began to wrap it around his arm wound... Whilst doing this he attempted to move his arm, we was now able to “feel” parts of his hand and it could see that he hadn’t lost it but attempt to move it cause severe pain...

“Probably gonna need surgery on this...” James grunted his arm stinging as he continued wrapping the bandage “How far is it to the crash site?”

“Will be alot easier, even crippled to get back to town with the power armour especially if we run into any more fish whatever the fuck face monster thing that was...”

"are they usually that big?"

Steve Miller - Town Reservoir

As Steve brought the rifle up to take aim, the creature ponced on the Enclaver, who let both barrels from what looked to be a sawed-off shotgun fly right into it at point blank range. It staggered back, roaring in anger and pain, then James fired three shots into it, all of which hit but seemed to have little effect. The creature retaliated by spitting another gob of goo at James, which he wasn't able to dodge. Distracted by this, Corrine charged it from behind, thrusting her spear into the base of it's neck. Steve, afraid of hitting Corrine, held his fire for a moment, holding aim until she got clear. Corrine's spear did not finish the creature, however, it swiped at her angrily, then pulled the spear out of it's hide and threw it back at her, much to Steve's horror, something he'd never seen an animal do before.

"What the fuck?", Steve thought with astonishment, "Just what are we up against out here?"

Now having a clear line of fire, Steve took his shot. The heavy 500 grain bullet bit deep, and the creature let out a horrible screech and clutched at it's chest. It then, even as he worked the action to chamber another round, whirled about and fled, his second shot sailing through the empty space the creature had been occupying a mere fraction of a second before. He chambered another round and fired at it as the creature fled into the mist, leaving behind a trail of disgusting blue-green blood that seemed to glow faintly. As it did not cry out again, Steve assumed he had missed. Steve chambered another round, then lowered the rifle and looked around. The creature had ben driven off...but at a cost. Both James and the Enclaver down, but still moving.

“Hey", the Enclaver said looking over at James, "can someone help me up?”

Steve then looked over at Corrine, realizing she was still lying on the ground. The spear had thankfully missed, stuck in the ground about a yard from where Corrine lay. He rushed to her side.

"Corrine!", Steve exclaimed, his voice filled with concern, "Are you alright?"

CORRINE DOOLAK - west road - after dark

Well, that ain't right, her last full thought as the spear met a thicker, tougher hide than ever before, just as the angler knocked her into the air and to the ground. There was a loud smack and an explosion of pain through her head. Everything was dark. She thought she heard the sound of her spear clattering down next to her, but couldn't open her eyes, let alone move, to see.

There was a sound of rushing air between her ears. Corrine's head pulsed over and over with a pounding ache. Her body felt heavy and thick, like her joints were sandbags.

"Corrine!", Steve called through the sound of the wind, "Are you alright?"

The sound of the rushing air was overtaken by a ringing, instead. Warmth rushed to her head and cheeks and finally she felt like she could open her eyes. Her breath hitched into the back of her throat in shallow pants. The pain began to radiate from what felt like the middle of her forehead. Corrine pushed herself up onto her hands and knees. "Fuh...fufuffing..." Her lips felt like rubber. She raised her head just enough to be able to look Steve in the face. There was only one of him looking back at her, so she figured that was a good sign. She offered a small smile, then flopped onto her backside back onto the road.

"Just a little...just..." She reached up and touched her forehead, wincing at the tender injured spot, then inspected her fingertips for blood. Sure enough, there was some. "I'll live." Corrine pointed towards both James'. "What about them?" She dropped her volume before posing the next question. "What about James W.? Did he lose the arm?"
