Character Name: Scott Valentine
Nickname/callsign: Heartbreak
Age: 28
Nationality: American
Gender: Male
Bio:
Scott is from the southern US, Georgia to be precise. He grew up in a military family, his father having served in the USAF during Vietnam, the invasion of Grenada and the first Gulf War as a gunship pilot. His mother was a medical nurse at a prestigious hospital.
He has one sister, Melody, who is three years his junior; she works in a technical firm that supports the USAF.
Scott was always a natural leader among his peers, and while he was often looked up to by his peers, he often came into trouble for leaping to stick up for people, and often giving into his curiosity and getting into trouble by coercing and convincing his friends to go with him into places he wasn't allowed, or staying out past curfews. This curiosity and fascination with danger was a hallmark of his, and he managed to shape and mold it - with the help of his counselors at school and friends of the family - into a direction and a purpose. Wanting to follow in his fathers' footsteps and also to push himself and put his best qualities to use, he signed onto college with a military scholarship, intending to join the air force.
He learned to fly while at college through associated programs, and did well as part of the ROTC, as well as graduating college with distinction, and going into the USAF. His training was somewhat rocky, his problems with authority and uniformity coming to bear once more, but his overall level of skill, aptitude and dedication were too hard to pass up.
Initially, he was barred from fast-jet and tactical aircraft due to interference from higher ranks. However, after his actions as a C-130 pilot during a dangerous mission, braving hostile fire and conditions to airlift personnel from a contested area, to the point of landing on unpaved and rough fields once runways were out of commission and even landing on a road at one point and taking off again with three engines; his successful actions got him noticed and he was given the opportunity to transfer to a tactical unit.
Still wanting the connection of working in close concert with ground forces and controllers, he requested assignment to a Ground Attack unit, and received full training on the A-10 Thunderbolt II.
This training came not a moment too soon, as barely a year into his first operational tour, the Yerrill invasion occurred.
Scott found himself quickly thrust into the heart of battle, performing attack, close air support and interdiction missions with alarming frequency. His aptitude as a pilot and skill in combat soon came to the fore and were quickly recognised, and he received promotions for bravery for his actions during several missions.
His unit were instrumental in the destruction of one of the Yerrill hives, and were part of the forces that destroyed the Yerrill's land-crawlers, the biggest and some of the most dangerous units that needed to be taken out before the final assault on the last of the hives.
Following the end of the war on Earth, Scott volunteered to be part of the Expeditionary Forces, and was assigned to the 101st.
Personality:
Scott is a cheerful, outgoing and personable man for the most part. He is strong in moral conviction, and has an affable and easy-going personality that makes him easy to get along with.
While he is relatively easy going, this hides his steel core of dedication, bravery and practicality that make him an effective and deadly combat pilot in the right situation. He is excellent in his element and fights with great skill and dedication, often bargaining his skill against the risk to come out on top. He is tenacious and quite ruthless in combat, utilizing his aircraft and its' weapons to the limit of their performance in the accomplishment of his missions.
His bristling against authority still remains, and manifests itself often in the resistance and dismissal of what he calls 'meaningless' regulations, orders, or directives; things that exist only as red tape or chafe against the ability to carry out a mission or objective, or more often to help people that need it and can't be aided due to regulations. He is willing to push the envelope and bend the rules if need be to ensure people get the help they need, and has speculated that if the result would help the greater number of people, he would defy the rules in a serious way if need be.
Nonetheless, he is not an anarchist or a lawless renegade, and will enforce and follow regulations for the most part, especially when there are others' lives on the line, or the risk is too great - especially to innocent civilians or allies.
Outside of his duties as a pilot, he enjoys rock music, hiking and the outdoors, climbing and movies. He has a soft spot for women and quite an eye for them - something else that often leads him to trouble - and resulted in his callsign 'heartbreak' which has stuck with him ever since.
Appearance:
Approximately 5'9" and relatively muscular, more athletic than a weightlifter build. Dark eyes and hair, usually with a spark of mischief and humour to them, but when that goes away is when it's obvious he's angry or upset.
Wears a normal USAF flightsuit and gear, fatigues when not flying. Out of the cockpit tends toward Converse-style sneakers, jeans or cargo pants, checked shirts and the like. Comfortable but practical clothing.
Personal Gear:
Standard pilots' gear and equipment
Helmets' visor cover has a broken heart painted on the left side
Personal Weapons:
Beretta M9 handgun
Gerber LMF ASEK-II Survival Knife in sheath on calf
MP5A5 Sub-machine gun with flashlight front-grip
Aircraft: A-10C Thunderbolt II
Aircraft Colours: Standard Euro-1 Camouflage with a 'hog mouth' painted on the nose around the cannon.
