Welcome to Heartshine High! Here, we train the next generation of magical girls to fight evil. Located in rural Japan, Heartshine takes girls from all over the world. The dorms are top-notch, the classrooms are cutting-edge, and the faculty are the most respected among retired magical girls. So come, join us, and become a the best heroine you can be!
So, obviously, we will be playing as magical girls-in-training. All the usual tropes will be involved: making friends, beating villains, yada yada yada. There's a few things you need to know before we get started, though, so check the spoilers for a whole lot of info.
The classrooms are updated with the latest and greatest technology. Voice activated smartboards, high-quality laptops for every student, the works. In fact, many of the students who go on to universities complain that the university's equipment can't hold a candle to HeartShine. That said, the classes are also very rigorous, and designed to push the students to their limits.
The school includes a full scale gym with a pool, cafeteria, and courtyard/park as well as a museum devoted to the history and contributions of magical girls. Dorms are in groups of five, with a common room and individual beds.
School schedule is very simple. Mundane subjects in the morning, power practice and teamwork in the afternoon. Friday afternoons are monster hunts and patrols.
The school uniform is either a sailor fuku or Western-style top and skirt, student's choice. The tops are pink, and the bottoms light blue.
Asako is a small, nearby town of about 5,000 people. Perfect for those who enjoy a slower-paced life, there's nonetheless plenty of good shopping and eating in town, as well as a movie theater.
Upon acceptance to the school, every student gets a Spiritstone. These items look like colored pearls in their undifferentiated state, but transform into a gemstone when worn by a magical girl, often a shape appropriate to the girl's powers- i.e. a girl with fire powers might have a Spiritstone that looks like a red flame. A magical girl's powers are boosted when wearing her Spiritstone, but be careful- if magical girl dies when wearing her Spiritstone, it must be purified quickly, lest it turn into an extra-powerful Demon (see below). Purified Spiritstones of fallen magical girls are on permanent display in the museum, in the Hall of Heroes.
Demons are the personification of negative emotions: terror, rage, hatred, jealousy, etc. They are stronger physically than ordinary humans, and have dangerous powers. When defeated, a Demon leaves behind a Demon Shard, a black crystal of varying size. Demon Shards can be purified to give a magical girl a permanent power boost, or with luck, an entirely new attack. Note that magical girls are often called in to deal with mundane criminals as well.
As of right now, I will be controlling all enemies. My rule is to be tough but fair- you take a high-risk move against an enemy, you better be prepared to face the consequences. I will not kill off a PC without their player's approval, unless said player has been absent without warning for a week. I will also work with you to determine fallout from a fight gone bad, such as injuries. I am open to doing a dice system if people want it, but be warned, I have never created a dice system from scratch.
1. Uniforms are to be worn at all times during classes and patrols, unless the girl is actively transformed.

Civilian Appearance:A young girl. Boxy shape and more masculine. Has a crooked grin and bright ginger hair. Has Brown eyes. Wears uniform when required. Hates both uniforms

Personality:Fiery and very blunt. Explodes easily and angered easily. Can be nice one second and brutal another. Unpredictable. Arrogant and has a sense of self-righteousness. However she is not completely evil, only troubled and may have some mental problems
Bio: Lucia was a young girl growing up in a small town until her family was robbed in their own home. Tied up and helpless, she summoned her first power: An extreme version of "Crazed", Which while killing the burglars also killed her family. She is in a deep sense of denial and tries to ignore any mention of her past. She had lived in multiple foster homes before coming to this school. She has trouble controlling her powers combined with a sense of emptiness from the loss of her family leave her a true wildcard as she is today.

Utility Abilities: Know it all: Knowledgeable in all manners of explosives and able to activate or deactivate and explosives Karisma: Can reverse any charismatic act by another person Only uses it when she's mad Burning ring of fire: can set anything aflame whether she means to or not.

Personality: Electric. Melissa is loud, bubbily, and excitable. She lives the high life, and it shows in her actions - money has never been an object for her. Those who she befriends and cares for, which is a select few, can see her other side; loyalty, protection, Melissa would do anything to protect those who matter to her.
She's grown up as a bit of a party animal though - and got in trouble more than once for breaking curfews to throw a dorm party.
Bio: Daughter of a great rock guitarist, it came as no surprise as Melissa's powers came from music. She has been around instruments since birth, and could play a guitar from the age of three. Money was always easy to get, and she always had the best stuff.
Melissa's powers came out accidentally on stage, when her dad let his twelve year old girl play guitar on stage during a pre-show. The guitar burst into life as she played, almost blinding the crowd, hypnotising them to chant for her without ever knowing her name.
Her parents, unsure how to treat this sudden power, tried to hide it. They allowed her to play still, but only in private. She rarely hit the power surges that she had on stage, and when she turned 14 the school contacted her parents. They were more than willing to send their locked-away daughter to learn how to control her powers. She arrived at the school with a huge amount of belongings including five guitars and a drumkit, much to the teachers horror.
She only seems to play the drums when she's in a bad mood though, thankfully for those at the school.

Musical Fingers - Melissa can play any instrument perfectly, regardless of the instruments state of tune or if she has played it before

Smokescreen – Special effects! Melissa causes mist to spread around her, making it harder for her targets to breathe

Chorus – A continuous attack – Melissa cannot do anything else while she is singing her song. While her song is being sung however, her allies are powered up and her enemies are weakened
Let me hear you scream! – A scream that draws attention to her. The target of this attack cannot look away from Melissa while she is screaming
Pyrotechnics – What is a performer without her stage? Fireworks are summoned out of the ground and fired in the direction of Melissa’s choosing

THUNDERSTRUCK - quite literally, a bolt of thunder from her guitar (or other instrument). She has to channel it through an instrument, and cannot use it if she's not playing. The damage is explosive

Civilian Appearance: Yuki typically is found in her school uniform. However, much unlike the others, she had somehow convinced the head of the school to issue her a rather unique uniform - one that she had slacks instead of skirts. Her uniform is styled more to fit a rather masculine type of uniform, making her quite an odd sight amidst the usual short skirts. However, she can be forced to wear the usual uniform of Heartshine High if there is absolutely no choice. When not in her uniform, she can be most often found in jacket and jeans.
Magical Girl Appearance: As depicted by the picture above, she has arguably one of the more 'everything changes' transformation. Her top becomes a short sleeved black shirt with sleeveless military jacket and her bottom becomes khaki shorts that go all the way to her knees. She also gets combat boots and black fingerless gloves. This has been attributed to her love of the military and LARP. Once more, because of its unconventional appearance amidst the magical girls, she sticks out like a sore thumb.
Spiritstone Appearance: Takes the form of an electric blue orb with flashes of white zigzagging in the middle.
Personality: Yuki is an action-loving, adrenaline seeking type of person. She thrives in the battlefield, much better than in a classroom for sure. Her thrill-seeking has certainly gotten her into trouble for the past three years in the academy and most are expecting that it would continue even after she is done in Heartshine. She may be reckless, but she isn't stupid enough to get herself in a situation where she can't get out alive. This also shows that she's rather stupidly brave, especially if someone is in trouble. She typically has enough energy to spare by the end of the day, despite being cheery and energetic for the whole day. She's a social type of person, finding talking with people very easy. She is pretty much approachable at all times, even on the battlefield if the situation permits it. Yuki is very optimistic and almost never loses hope, even in dire situations.
Hidden within the very cores of Yuki is a scared girl. She has anxiety issues thanks to her past which leads her to always want to stay in everyone's good side. Though, of course, she has a problem with actually thinking that some people are talking behind her back and she gets a little paranoid about it. She might not show it but she's really having trouble fighting herself to become the optimistic girl people see her as. She is only one hundred percent comfortable and confident when she's on the battlefield, fighting demons. Yuki also has a deep, seething hatred for being touched by others; though oddly, she seems alright when she's the one who touches somebody.
If there's one thing that can piss her off, it's someone messing with her close friends. Once you do, she's sure to act on it, physically if needed. She's not afraid of getting in trouble if it means setting someone in their place. Once she's thoroughly pissed off, it gets hard to talk her out of it. She can barely restrain herself from beating someone to near-death, so that's saying something. This kind of level of pissed off from her is really hard to attain and is usually invoked by demons who hurt her friends. No human has attained it... not yet at least.
Bio: As you can already probably tell, Yuki isn't your typical Magical Girl nor is she your typical highschool girl. Born and raised under the influence of multiple military men, she grew up adoring the military. She would often sit down with her two brothers and sister, listening to the stories of her father, or uncle, or grandfather, about their time in the military. They even went as far as making a small freerun course in their backyard for the kids to play and practice on. As she grew older, they began to realize that Yuki was actually androgynous but there was without a doubt that she was biologically female - even though her direct physical appearance and personality will lead you to believe that she isn't. It doesn't seem to bother her at all; no matter what gender they called her, she would respond anyway.
Of course, life wasn't exactly smooth. School life had been harsh on her because of her appearance. Boys actively bullied her and girls avoided her, or inflicted what pretty much amounted to psychological damage because of their rumors and gossip. She hated going to school. She would often come home with bruises and her older brothers would often accompany her as much as possible, but the bullies always found a way to torment her. It wasn't a very fond memory and she'd rather not look back to it. It certainly didn't affect her personality that much... well, that's what she lets on at least.
When her older brothers got involved in Live Action Roleplaying, or LARP, she followed suit. That was when she began to find out her love for actual being on the field. Nothing was better than getting her blood pumping as she ran around. One day, as she was playing with her brothers and their friends in LARP, she had accidentally sent a bolt of lightning when she panicked and it blew up a box to bits. Shocked and amazed at the same time, they began asking how she felt - knowing immediately what would happen afterwards. They quickly went home and excitedly told her parents who were proud of her and wondered if her younger sister would also become a Magical Girl.
Once she got her letter form Heartshine, she packed up and left, bidding goodbye to her family. She had originally expected a lot of things to go wrong, especially because of her experience with bullying. However, she was received warmly by the student body. The headmaster also found that she was extremely uncomfortable in her school uniform and knowing the kind of anxiety that she goes through after a serious psychological evaluations (which ended up with having a one on one talk with the headmaster), she was permitted to wear an altered uniform to make her feel comfortable. Yuki always found that she belonged in Heartshine and found out that it wouldn't turn out as bad as she expected.
Power Theme: Lightning/Electricity
Utility Abilities: Military Knowledge: With almost every male in her family in the military, she was bound to get some tactical knowledge from them, and some physical training. LARP: Before, and even during, her attendance to Heartshine, she involves herself in LARP which led her to be physically fit and learn parkour or freerunning. Cooking: She is an exceptional cook. Give her ingredients and she'll whip up something you would probably like. Marksman: Thanks to some LARP and Airsoft battles, she has quite the aim. Photographic Memory: She never forgets a detail. Never.
Minor Attacks: Lightning Bolt: Sends a bolt of lightning towards the enemy Electric Charge: Coating a part of her body with electricity, it powers up the attack Stun Grenade: Used as support, she sends a small ball of electricity to momentarily paralyze an enemy (lasts two seconds) Lightning Web: Lightning crawls around her in a small two meter radius to damage enemies surrounding her. Shockwave: By charging both hands and slamming them together, she creates a shockwave around her that can lift a small demon (or a grown man) off their feet.
Moderate Attacks: Lightning Storm: A series of precise lightning strikes that can have multiple targets damaged simultaneously Lightning Boost: Practically covering herself, or another, in lightning, it boosts her, or another's, overall physical capabilities. This lasts for ten minutes. She's been known to use this frequently in tandem with other attacks to speed herself up at the cost of her energy for a quick fight. Lightning Spear: Definitely more damaging than Lightning Bolt but acts almost the same way.
Major Attacks: Wrath of Zeus: It is as devastating as it sounds, it sends a bolt of white-hot lightning coming down from the sky (or the ceiling depending on where they are) and to the enemy. It sends a shockwave capable of lifting a car off the ground around an eight meter radius.
Okay, Lucia is now accepted. As for your question about whether powers are inherited or random, I'm going to say a combination. It takes a certain combination of genetics to become a magical girl, but it also takes a certain "awakening moment" that may never end up happening.
A couple of other things: I forgot to mention that you can make teachers as well, they just have to be 21 and up. The headmistress will be up today or tomorrow.
Personality: Liv is a kind, soft-spoken woman who easily gets flustered. Though she's gentle on her students and will never turn down a call for help, it is very easy to take advantage of her naivete and is often bullied in class by the more rowdy bunch. However, if another student is the target of ire, she will quickly step in and punish those misbehaving. Around other teachers and experienced magical girls, Liv becomes shy and slinks into the background, but she's more than willing to lend a hand when needed. She feels uncomfortable in her civilian form and often remains as a magical girl even out of combat. Most students never get to see her true form.
Bio: Olivia was born in a small town along the coast of Denmark. Her early life was uneventful, spending her childhood years hanging out with close friends and helping her mother in the garden. On her 13th birthday, the town's school was attacked by a demon. Liv sprung into action, ushering other kids to safety. When a lone 5 year old caught the monster's wrath, the girl ran and shielded the boy with her body. There, her magical abilities emerged, shooting a beam of life energy out from her chest. This gave them just enough time for a team of magical girls to arrive and finish off the weakened monster.
Seeing that the girl had innate talent, the leader of the magical girl group gave Olivia an application for the school. Excited, but also nervous, the girl accepted. Leaving her country behind, Liv went to Japan to attend Heartshine High. Upon going there, she would find she was not alone. Three other girls, who shared the same birthday as her, happened to have their powers realized on the same day. Becoming best friends immediately, they would all find that they all shared the same power: angelic wings that enabled flight. So, they named themselves the Angel Hearts.
For the next four years, Liv honed in her magic, finding herself more of a utility mage than a battle one. This was fine by her- after all, she wanted to help people, not hurt them. Though she was quite popular, Olivia never had any interest in the dating realm, instead focusing her free time on time with the magical girl group and tending a small school garden. With the other girls at her side, she became more confident and outgoing, growing into a beautiful young woman.
After graduation, Angel Hearts fought crime all throughout Europe, becoming one of the best in the EU. But good times can't last forever. When the girls were 21, a rivalry between the leader and the second-in-command grew into a fight, causing the group to fall apart. Heartbroken, Liv spent her days as a drifter, helping those in need but never fighting directly against criminals or demons.
Life picked back up, however, when she was offered a job as a support magic teacher at Heartshine High. Eagerly taking the job, Olivia has spent the past 6 years training the magical girls of tomorrow. Though she's friends with all the other faculty members, she yearns for the days of her tight knit group, feeling loneliness take over her heart.
Power Theme: Life/Angel
Utility Abilities: 1. Angel's Blessing: Angel Heart Spirit has a set of wings she can manifest at will. She can passively float and glide without effort, but actively flying takes energy. 2. Emphatic Horn: Highly attuned to the feelings of others, she can tell when someone is feeling a strong emotion without effort and can read more nuanced feelings upon physical contact with her horn. She can also use this ability on animals, but demons coming in contact with her horn causes extreme mental harm. 3. Years of Practice: As a magical girl for over 10 years, she's had quite a bit of time to hone her skill. She understands the difficulty of traits of monsters, the vast array of powers, and everything in between. At this level, she can teach others what she knows. 4. Halo: An angelic glow of sparkles surrounds her at all times. This is a passive layer of magical protection, defending against most minor attacks. Physical attacks are not effected by this. 5. Gardener: Liv's hobby is to tend to the school garden. She can identify most common Japanese and European plants, plus knows basic concepts such as soil pH, hydroponics, etc.
Minor Attacks: 1. Guardian: Angel Heart Spirit can actively spread the Halo effect from her body onto others. It provides a minor level of magic protection to all nearby magical girls, but only in a 30 foot radius around her. 2. Blessing: Grants a single person a boost of energy, recharging their stamina and mana. 3. Life Bolt: Sends a bolt of emerald-tinted life force from her staff. It hurts demons, but heals humans or magical girls. 4. Cherubim's Protection: A bubble shield that absorbs magical attacks. Thin and can take only a few minor attacks or a moderate attack. Requires her staff to use. 5. Gabriel's Grace: A short-ranged dash attack that turns her ethereal and harms demons she comes in contact with. If an ally is hit instead, they receive a small boost of energy. She can still be harmed in the ethereal form, but she can phase through solid objects. Requires her staff to use.
1. Lifesaver: AH Spirit marks a target with her staff. If they are injured with magical while marked, the energy from the attack is instead used to heal them. Can only have a mark on one person at a time. 2. Gabriel's Ray: Sends a ray of emerald-tinted life force from her staff. It inflicts major damage on demons, but heals humans and magical girls. Much bigger and stronger than Spiritual Smite. 3. Sacred Ground: A 30 foot radius around her glows with green energy. Demons within the radius find themselves both physically and magically weakened, while humans and magical girls get a double dose of Halo's effect. She can leave the area after being cast. Lasts 2 minutes.
Major Attacks: Virtue of Heaven: Angel Heart Spirit enters a stasis state, turning ethereal and emitting a golden glow. A 50-foot radius around her bursts with pulses of life energy for the next 30 seconds, healing any humans/magical girls it comes in contact with and damaging any demons. For a few seconds after exiting the stasis, she is extremely vulnerable and cannot take any actions.
Personality: Elizabeth is a kind and sweet young lady but sometimes shy about personal things but brave and have the courage to fight.
Bio: Elizabeth born and rise in a high class family with two sisters, while growing up She start to question her gender so Elizabeth try to keep her secret from her family, while the family is a away, Elizabeth would try her sisters clothes and practice her voice.
While at Middle school she also try to keep her secret from her students but one person know about her secret also try to keep secret as possible his name was James and told her that is ok to feel this way cause that what makes her her.
So as Years gone by, she stated fencing sport to gain a enough courage to tell her family her secret, when their family was having a party in their house, she have a plan to tell her secret and tell them about what she want to be, she was practicing in the backyard but when she try to finish on her truth she get lost in talk, after the party and everyone was gone, Elizabeth tell for a family.
Elizabeth about to tell them the truth but no matter how hard she try, she just can't say the truth, she scare what her mother would react, what her father would react, what her sisters would react. She couldn't think, couldn't talk, couldn't move, She feel like she was frozen but when she came to focus to see her family with a surprise expression but she didn't say anything, why are they so surprise? well when she look around, she see half of the living room frozen.
When she turn 15, some school contacted her parents to tell them that their daughter have be accept to a school call HeartShine High, After a goodbye to her family, her father and mother tell her no matter what, they love for who she is. So after that, she finally she feel a warmly accepted from her family and the school.

Utility Abilities: fencing sport- Violinist-
Minor Attacks: Ice ball- Elizabeth can create and launch spheres made of ice or containing ice energy Ice Spikes- Elizabeth can create and project needles/spikes of ice/cold to impale targets Icy Surface- Elizabeth can cause surfaces (often floor) to emit ice/cold, causing ice-damage on anything in contact with them or the ice. Ice Infusion- Elizabeth can infuse objects (usually a weapon), beings or powers with ice/cold, empowering and energizing them and allowing the user to manipulate their qualities and efficiency, causing the freezing sub-zero properties to damage and freeze almost anything. Ice Sword- Elizabeth can summon a ice sword to cut down any demons
Moderate Attacks: Ice Bomb- Elizabeth is able to create explosive constructs with freezing properties Ice Bullet- User can create/generate and fire bullets of ice. Ice Wave- Elizabeth can release waves, spirals, rings, pulse, blasts, balls, and bursts of ice/cold and use them to damage, push, bind and/or paralyze people
Major Attacks: Goddess of Ice - Elizabeth can release ice over a specific target area causing great damage and/or delivering great shock waves of pure force
