@Pathfinder No, the Academy was built after, and the order didn't become renowned until shortly after the Empress' death and the rise of each Noble line to positions of actual power.

Alright, then I guess the rivalry came later then. My idea so far is that this "Order of the Black Sun" was around pre-unification war under the banner of the Blackguard of Morr, an old god of Death and Dreams. They fought hard but eventually their patron kingdom decided it was better to give in to Queen Avelier rather than being slowly ground into dust, so the Blackguard was ordered to stand down and surrender. When the Queen outlawed religion there was a minor conflict with the blackguard but they eventually gave in and rebranded themselves as the Order of the Black Sun after an eclipse happened over one of their battles.

However the inner circle, "The Black Ones", still worship Morr behind closed doors.

Functionally they do what the Silver Shields do but cheaper and offer their services for pennies when guarding gravesites.

@Pathfinder Sounds fine, but make a few alterations please.

Firstly, change the name of the God from Morr as to not take too much Influence from Warhammer Fantasy.
Second, remember that in-universe gods are either dead and gone or have been disproved and though scholars argue on the odd occasion, noone alive really knows which of the two it is but the fact is there are no gods left.
Third and lastly, the gods being gone doesn't stop cults or individuals from worshipping gods on the down low, in some places it might carry more social stigma than in others, and in the Empire it's illegal, but you're more than welcome to write your characters as gods-worshippers with all that in mind.

The name change is inconsequential, I just liked the sound of it.

What's your stance on magic potions? Stuff that enhances the body or cures diseases, I know we have mages but I don't want to jump the gun with magic strength potions if there aren't any.

@Pathfinder Hmm, having not thought about it before I've decided on the spot that "potions" exist, but they aren't magical in nature, think of them like caffeine shots and energy drinks that some warriors might use to give themselves an edge in battle, at the cost of possibly becoming addicted and gaining a resistance to their effects if used too often.

Among the very, very few that exist, all magical objects, abilities and artefacts belong to select Lore characters and might be discovered or even obtained through IC interaction.

Standing at six feet, Lukasz would not stand out if it wasn’t for his height. Other than that, he’s just your regular lowborn trying to survive the harsh world.

Profession: A sellsword-for-hire, Lukasz will take the odd job here and there though he prefers caravan guarding and fur skinning to make his coin.

Starting Equipment/Belongings: A well-maintained iron sword, a red oak longbow and bundle of wooden arrows, and a leather armor set adorned by a green cape.

Background: Hailing from a remote village deep within the Velucian mountain range known as Byston, Lukasz was taught to hunt and fight at an early age instead of having any formal education. The village of Byston had been a frontier against nomadic raiders for as long its people can remember. Even under the imperial banner of the Aleviaryans, tribal raids were still a frequent occurrence that forced their people to take up arms and stay vigilant.

Having grown tired of the Bystonian way of life, Lukasz eventually left his home and seek riches elsewhere in his early 20s. Though it has only been a few months, interesting things have happened to him but the best is, hopefully, yet to come.

@GeekFactor This is my first time DMing of even RPing here as well, so don't sweat it.

As I just got back home I'm going to give everyone the go ahead to start posting IC. I will check back as often as I can to keep the RP flowing especially for people with don't have other player characters starting in the same area. Of course, people are welcome to keep joining and creating new characters as time goes on, the more the merrier as far as this particular setting is concerned.
