In 1967, humanity encountered an alien life form on the Moon, the BETA--Beings of Extra Terrestrial origin which is Adversary of human race--and soon were locked in battle with the invaders. However, with the arrival of BETA on Earth, the United Nations Space Command treated the situation as an emergency, and declared the abandonment of the permanent lunar base Plato-1 and the complete withdrawal from all personnel from the Moon, bringing to an end of six years of fighting on the lunar surface. From 1973 and onward, the BETA began their conquest on Earth, killing millions in mere weeks and strip mining the planet for any valuable resources. The nations of Earth attempted to fend off these foreign invaders, but despite their valiant efforts, it seemed nothing would stop the BETA.
Seemed.
In a daring operation across the world, humanity struck the core of the BETA leadership on Earth. Eliminating the Superior within Kashgar--the original hive on Earth, humanity was able to deal a devastating blow, weakening the BETA forces throughout the world. Casualties on both sides were massive, and despite the grand successes of the operation, humanity was refused the chance to lick their wounds. Gathering their forces once more, UN Command rallied the victorious forces, preparing to strike the BETA and retake the heartland back from the invaders whom sought it theirs.
The year is now 2004, and the BETA still control most of Europe. But there have been further victories since the destruction of the Superior. In Korea the Cheorwon Hive has been completely subjugated by a joint UN and Japanese force, paving the way to the complete recapture of the Korean Peninsula. In Western Europe, the UN along with the United States, Britain, Warsaw PACT forces, and a scarce amount of Soviet Army prepare for the most daring invasion in human history. A three pronged assault, with the Americans and British landing on the very same beaches of nearly 70 years ago in Normandy, the Soviet and Warsaw Pact forces landing in Norway and Denmark, and the UN landing along the northern and southern coasts of Spain. The hope is to begin the recapture of all of Europe, and with it the destruction of every last Hive on Earth. The BETA still have the numerical advantage, and the battle will be hard fought. Victory is not assured.
This is where you come in. Thrown into the fire of war, the multinational 231st Tactical Armored Battalion--"The Grey Wolves"--fight alongside the UN forces in Northern Spain, yet whether they ride for ruin or victory is all but unknown.
Greetings to whomever may read this, and welcome to our interest check. This RP is the brainchild of @FrostedCaramel and I with advice from a friend, created from our love for the Muv-Luv series, and we hope that you will share in it with us no matter your knowledge on the rather expansive base (We're both willing to answer any questions you may have).
To start, the world of Muv-Luv is far from the world of today. Besides the alien menace that has taken over a large portion of the world as we know it there is plenty else different. For starters jet plane development has come to a grinding halt with the appearance of the Laser Class BETA, who fire with such precision that they can strike down a fighter jet from some 30km away. In response to this, the forces of the world began to develop a weapon from an exo-skeleton walker that was first deployed on the moon during the First Lunar War against the BETA and proved to be one of the few things capable of standing toe-to-toe against them. This development eventually gave way to the Tactical Surface Fighter, or TSF as it is commonly referred to, which is what your characters will be piloting.
The Soviet Union and her Warsaw PACT satellites are alive and kicking, although without countries for the most part and with nearly all of the PACT forces being absorbed into the UN Military Forces they are still a force to be reckoned with. Communists and Capitalists still hate one another, and despite working together for the mutual benefit of survival both forces still play a deadly game of espionage and spying behind the expansive curtain of the war against the BETA. Media is highly controlled, with only active serving military members and those who have seen the BETA first hand even knowing what they look like. The Internet as we know it does not exist. The KGB, East German Stasi, US G-Men and other nations secret services still exist, and are a very real presence everywhere one goes with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner. Much of the surviving people not fighting against the BETA live in terrible conditions in refugee camps and survive off of algae-based food stuffs grown in mass.
