Have you heard about the mission board? Do you know where to find it? I'm looking to post a contract...
No, not just any board! Damn it! THE MISSION BOARD~! The only notorious one... Forget it! Now f*** off girl, you are just useless...
The story will be about a very mysterious mission board located in a random dark alleyway in the City of No Names. In this city, crime is breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper; and here nobody cares about who you are or what you do... and when they care, they want you dead.
About the Mission Board It is RUMORED that there is a mission board somewhere in the alleyway filled with random posts of assassination contracts. Day after day, anonymous killers will come and pick up one of the contracts to fulfill them. It is said that when you have finished a contract of your picking, a mysterious pouch of money will appear in front of your doorsteps in the following day; no matter where you live or who you are.
You can also post contracts on the board. They say that you don't even have to pay for it; as whoever is in charge will make you pay somehow... I wonder if it is a money payment, or something else...
The Bigger Lore: Urban Creatures So I'm planning on a series of role-plays about creatures lurking around in urban areas. They are monsters that are highly specialized in stealth and OBVIOUSLY they hunt humans down for meals. So, most of the people in this universe have no knowledge or even awareness about their existences.
"Contracts" will be the first part of the series, and we will first focus on the human inhabitants of No Name City. you can role-play as a killer, a contract-poster, just a local, or even a curious detective *wink wink* ;). "Contracts" will reveal more about the nature of this universe overtime (and you can help me build it! :D) and I'm really looking forward to seeing how the game goes.
The City of No Name is an uncharted map that is never owned by any countries around the world. The size and exact location of the city is currently unknown. People who have heard rumors about the city may access it by booking an entry ticket from certain sources.
Dock Place where (rarely) outsiders and citizens come into contact. This is the place to book a ticket off hell; though for some reason it is really hard to find boats willing to bring passengers away from the city. Also, this is the only main route citizens of the city get things that they cannot manufacture themselves such as medical supplies
Lower & Upper Districts These are the only places where inhabitants get to buy their own houses and not be worried (although not guaranteed at all) that someone would take ownership of their homes; as military forces will (supposedly) patrol the districts and secure their safety... or that is what claimed by our new Mayor Jess.
The houses in the lower district are just like the ones at the slums; while the upper district offers more luxurious houses and places to go for the rich and powerful. As to how to access the districts... Mayor Jess personally handpicks people who are qualified.
Market District The busiest and most lively place in the city. People of all walks gather here to trade and sell/buy services. You can buy just about anything here as long as you have the money...
The Slums This is where most citizens of No Names city live. Crimes and deaths occur on a daily basis; and houses have to be fully barricaded and guarded heavily before they are considered (slightly) safe to live in.
This is also the place where the legendary mission board is said to inhabitat.
Military area Our Mayor Jess owns a military force and it is located right north of the upper district. She personally commands the army (they have tanks, ships, and highly trained infantries) and has the power to annihilate the whole city anytime she wants. So this is absolutely a place to avoid.
Industrial Complex A place where manufacturing of goods from canned food to military weapons are done here. Controlled heavily by the military. A secret subway entrance can be found here.
The Abandoned People who are too poor or sick are often left there to die. It is a very remote place with minimum amount of survival supplies.
Tradings
The City of No Names has three circulating currencies: the Euro, the gold and the Js. As you can guess, the Euro comes from the real world - Europe's currency. The gold stands for gold bars. People melts them down into smaller weights (like coins) and use them as currencies. The Js is the city's local bill created and circulated by the Mayor Jess... It has her face on it. For now 100 Euro = 1kg gold = 10Js.
The year is 2017 and technology advancement in this universe will be similar to the one our current world is in. However, because of the poverty and crime rate of No Names City, local technology seems 20 years behind. Laptops, smart phones, or the internet (Yes, no wifi) are not a common knowledge to the local inhabitants. You may have brought in modern items (electronic devices) on your own if you were from the outside world, or if you are rich and have the connections.
Politics/Law Enforcement
No countries have ever tried to claim the city. Whether or not the world leaders know about the city's existence is still a mystery. The city was fundamentally lawless; until the day self-proclaimed Mayor Jess took over the city by military force two years ago. No one knew her origin, or why she would want to take over a city like this; but everyone knows she is not mayor material - she is a nutjob.
Role-Players' Guide
General rules Don't be scared by the wall of words, but at least skim through most of them to get the general theme before posting. Although I really like to read elaborated stories, you don't have to feel obliged to post as many paragraphs or keep up with any grammar standards (as long as everything is readable). Also feel free to ask questions and make suggestions on anything. I am open to ideas. :)
Role-play characters You can be any roles you want as long as they fit the universe and they are humans. Sorry but no abominations/creatures up for role-play in chapter 1 yet.
Style the sheet with your own creativity if you want. :)
Name: Anything you want to be called. Can have a real and a fake one.
Appearance: Describe or photo.
Age: As long as it makes sense.
Birth Country: You can be a local or lived somewhere in the real world (USA, India, etc.)
Family members: you may have side characters and you can include them into the role-play as well.
Role/Occupation: What you do everyday.
Starting Fortune: how much money you have. What equipment did you bring with you. Do you own a house in No Names City? If so how does it look like?
Strengths: What you are good at that help you survive till now. Make sure that your strengths and weaknesses balance out.
Weaknesses: What traits you have that might one day get you killed
Greatest Fear: What do you absolutely hate to have under your bed when you sleep at night
Background/History: Where were you from; why are you here; what do you want to achieve; and anything you want us to know.
*Hidden background: If you have something you only want to reveal at the end, and you want other RPers to try figure out, PM me to make sure it is lore friendly. We can also lay out clues to make things more fun. ;)
This is essentially a survival mystery game. You will explore the city in your own way, and gather information about mysteries over time to better help you survive.
For Killers: Several contracts will be posted on the mission board per week, and you get to pick whichever you like on a first come first serve basis. Contracts will have information on the background of your victims (or even posters so you can track them down for reasons ;3), and you will have to use them and do your own information gathering before you make a perfect kill (you may choose to poison, shoot, stab, burn, eat, etc. your victims)
For Contract-Posters: Get an additional role as well (maybe someone living in the upper district, or a mercenary serving under the mayor); because posting too much is bad for your health for reasons. You may either send me contracts in PM (and wait for the killers/detectives to track you down), or post it yourself. Anyone including a killer can post.
For Detectives: Depending on your goal, you may track down killers or contract-posters or investigate the secret nature of the city. I'll give corresponding clues on areas you investigate.
Also, I didn't plan to use any dice-rolling mechanism for now, but you can make further suggestions as to how this game can be carried out.
Hi @Yogananda! :3 Sorry still halfway working on it, I totally had to rush to work today so I left the OOC undone xD.
Year and tech level would be the same as our current real world technology advancement. I’ll put in more details in a bit later today. And how’s the side stories? xD
Starting Fortune: She has the basic tools of a mechanic and an electrician and a motorcycle. Drake also carries with her a violin that she has had since she was young. She keeps on her person the minor tools of her trade.
Strengths: Anything mechanical or Electrical Playing the violin making deaths happen from far away
Weaknesses: She is fond of children and would like to be a mother one day Caffeine addiction terrible at close combat is a shit shot with firearms
Greatest Fear: not having her tools/being barren/losing her hands
Background/History: Andria grew up in Ireland, where her father was a car mechanic. Her mother was a stay at home woman who was very loving and has a fondness of cooking and violins. In her younger years, Andria showed great potential in the realm of violin playing. She also happened to be gifted at many mechanical or electrical endeavors that she set about completing.
When she was merely 8, her mother began to plant a garden every year. While Andria inherited her father's brown thumb, she thought that it would be nice to meet a guy who had a green thumb one day.
Her interests in the violin and mechanics grew throughout her high school years. After graduating, Andria got a job as a ship mechanic. The captain, being a friend of her father's allowed Andria to bring her bike along. However, the trip was cut short when a storm hit, throwing the ship off course. Eventually, the ship lumbered its way into the ports of the City with No Name. Andria had been the only survivor of the ordeal.
She has lived in No Name for nearly two years now and has been accepting contracts for only the past 6 months or so. As such, she is considered a complete noob, but her skills are no trick.
*Hidden background: If you have something you only want to reveal at the end, and you want other RPers to try figure out, PM me to make sure it is lore friendly. We can also lay out clues to make things more fun. ;)
Birth Country: Born on a boat, raised on a boat, then delivered unto the Slums
Family members: Mother- Irene Father- Richard Little Sister- Tasha
Role/Occupation: Hireable criminal brute. Used to be a dock worker.
Starting Fortune: Always has at least 50 dollars on him. (In his front left pocket) Pocket knife (Kept in belt) Hunting knife (Kept in belt) 5 Throwing knives (Kept in belt) Metal bat (Tied onto back)
Strengths: Melee combat (Knives, Fists, etc.) Durable (Can take a beating) Sneaky (When he wants to be) Intimidating (When he wants to be)
Weaknesses: Dealing with emotions (Easily angered, thinks he can never show anything other than anger or impassiveness. Not a very good judge of character Doesn't care about anything (Except the people that are very, very close to him) Ranged combat (Bows, guns, etc.) Being diplomatic (He punches people. He doesn't have a way with words.)
Greatest Fear: Internal Fear - Weakness. (Showing it, feeling it. It doesn't matter. If he's seen as weak in any way and he can recognize it, it'll be all he thinks about.) External Fear - Claustrophobic (Can't handle small spaces. He would rather die than go in a crawl space. Elevators are pretty bad too.)
Background/History: Childhood: At a younger age he used to be a sweet little boy who wouldn't hurt a fly. He was never really scared of much and he felt the sight of blood was oddly welcoming. Ronan always wanted to protect his friends, not so much his family. He hated his father for not being there for him, and his mother for ignoring him completely. The only family he really cared for was his sister, the only person that has ever always been there for him. At school, people picked on him, called him names, pulled nasty pranks on him. Ronan was seen as weak and pathetic. One day it was too much and he finally snapped, he couldn't deal with it any longer. After hospitalizing a bully on the way home, the beast inside had been awakened and he began to crave violence like a drug. Now Ronan is unapologetic. He misses the sight of blood like an old friend. Ronan is easily provoked since he doesn't care about his actions getting him in trouble. He would sooner break a kid's nose than apologize to him, and he rarely backs down from a fight or opportunity to feel someone's bones crunching under his blows. Ronan also has a slight fascination with guns, although he would never use one. He loves seeing fruits explode on impact, but can't help but wonder if heads do the same thing as watermelon.
Where, Why, and What: Ronan was born as a Gypsy. Not your typical Gypsy though. Oh no, he was a Gypsy of the sea. Instead of riding a wagon from town to town, he would ride ships and help with the sailors while his mother robbed them with her "magic." When he was no older than 10, his parents would constantly be traveling. That was, of course, before his sister came around. When his mother was pregnant with Tasha, the family finally settled down in their current home, the last port before delivery. Although, always being in close quarters with his parents didn't mean they really gave him much attention. His mother was always focused on the next client, and his father was never really there to begin with. Ronan's father was always off ship, but sometimes found his way to the port they were loading onto. They saw him at most three times a year, sometimes less than that. After Tasha was born, Ronan never saw him again. His mother loves The City of No Name, even though her lack of a well-paying profession has left them in the slums. Then, his mother got sick. He was only 17 when his mother fell ill. She was so sick she could barely move and he, being the oldest, had to take over. Ronan was never really into the Gypsy stuff, nor was he good at it. He would rather take the things he wanted by force rather than by finesse. So, that's what he became. Ronan had always been a big kid. That, combined with his violent nature, he did fairly well in the streets. He started out as a mugger, providing just enough for his mother and sister. But, it soon became addicting. Seeing the blood splatter against the stone, and hearing the crunch of bones, it was his drug. Ronan couldn't stop, nor did he want to. He quickly became what he his today, a brute for hire. Handing out hits didn't also pay better, it was more fun. He had found his purpose. Something that not only entertained, but provided for what little family he had left.
Appearance: Think grizzled detective. Now add hallucinogenic drugs, a cloud of cigar smoke, and a Pfeifer-Zeliska .600 Nitro Express revolver. Yes it's an enormous gun.
Age: 42
Birth Country: Originally from Chicago and then Fort Leavenworth Sol landed in No Name City fifteen years ago and has been there ever since.
Role/Occupation: Mercenary/Detective
Starting Fortune: Not much money. It goes to drugs, cigars, bullets, and the occasional bribe. He has a house. Well, a ramshackle house. Alright its more like a barely standing shack. Still. Home sweet home. And office.
Strengths: Solomon is a bear of a man, as such the ridiculous over-sized revolver and a tendency to act like a wrecking ball makes him a nasty, hard to take down, close quarters fighter. Despite his lack of education and addiction the Detective pursues his jobs with a determination very seldom rivaled. Hell or high water, he gets the job done or kills everyone trying.
Weaknesses: A strong taste for Hallucinogenic drugs. A foxy dame. And cigars. Ill tempered and a bit uneducated... And... well you get the idea.
Greatest Fear: Solomon fears leaving the No Name Nity. The bleak days and black/white/grays of the night suit his color blind nature. The bright world out there holds nothing but the worst memories of his life. Dead family. Angry authorities. Two-faced friends.
Background/History: A perpetual cigar smoking mercenary/detective, color blind, and drug addict (hallucinogens) who takes up contracts to track down missing persons in the No Name City. Lost a relative? Wife run off with the dentist? Human trafficking waylaid your teenage daughter/son? Call Solomon Firenz. Kidnappers rescued, hostages slain. No job too easy, no price too high.
Can you clarify a bit where exactly were his family before settling in No Names City and how they got there though? The City of No Names isn't exactly connected to any other countries in a way you can travel freely in between.
