Russian forces in the Crimea number more than 12,000 today as Vladimir Putin offers Ukrainian forces in the region an ultimatum: “Be out by 5:00am Tuesday morning, or there will be consequences.” With Ukrainian troops telling Putin that they have vowed to defend Ukraine and her people, the Crimea is not a hotspot for conflict. The world’s eyes are on Russia as troop numbers grow by the hour.
Leaders of NATO and the EU have set in place more than $5 billion in aid to Kiev as well as placed embargos on Russian oil and natural gas. What will happen next, the world wonders.

Ukraine has failed to meet with President Vladimir Putin’s deadline today and the Russian Federation shocked all of the world when shots were fired. Fully committing to the invasion of the Ukraine, Crimean basses were seized and a reported 312 Ukrainian troops were killed. Ukraine has officially declared war on Russia as more than 20,000 Russian troops have crossed the border by 10:00PM Moscow-time. As a response, the Obama Administration has committed 12,000 US Marines (in addition to 3,000 troops from assorted NATO nations) to defending the Polish-Ukrainian border. Heavy sanctions have also been put in place on Russia.

It has been 18 days since the war in Ukraine began and Putin’s forces now draw within 100 miles of Kiev. United States Marines crossed the border into Ukraine today, after pleas from the Ukrainian President, and were en route for Kiev when Russia’s commanding General in the conflict issued this statement: “Any US Armed Forces within 50 miles of Kiev will be followed with the immediate declaration of war on the United States.”
US Marines halted their advance at Berdychiv, 90 miles outside of Kiev.

After the fall of Kiev under Russian pressure and the brutal bombing of the city, Ukraine has officially signed a peace treaty with the Russian Federation, assimilating it completely under Putin’s control. US Marines were escorted back across the Polish border by a Russian tank battalion and the UN Sanctions on Russia are lifted.

One of the world’s little known countries, Mongolia, is caught in the midst of an uprising today as a National Separatist movement calls for Chinese intervention in Southern Mongolia, where nearly 70% of the population speaks Mandarin. Chinese President Xi Jinping sends humanitarian aid to the Mongolian-Chinese border and nearly 10,000 Chinese troops in Northern China are placed on high alert.

After Putin and Xi Jinping agreed to split Mongolia along the 46th parallel, Mongolian president Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj declares war on both Russia and China. North Korea has bolstered border defences and China has made it clear that NATO and the EU are to stay out of Mongolia (threatening war as a response). Mongolia’s 12,000-man military is now locked in combat with nearly 60,000 invaders.

Forming with Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, and its protectorate, Cuba, Russia has formed the United Federation for Eurasian Defence (UFED). The UFED (called the “Russian Union” by NATO) is insisting that each member is a sovereign state.

We are part of a company from within the 2nd Ranger Battalion, members of the Elite 75th Army Ranger Regiment. Currently, as of November 30, 2014, our Company is the first ever "coed-combat unit" with both men and women serving side-by-side in combat operations as well as having women in the Army Rangers, which was allowed as of October 3, 2014. For one month now, our Company has been in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan Province, a province with a population of 820,000 with its capital in Fayzabad. Below is a documented report of our Deployment!
Viper Company deploys to Badakhshan, Afghanistan. Company Strength at 140.
Black Viper (1st Platoon) strength at 37.

Viper Company determines its deployment objective: "The Neutralization of JAA Forces in the Badakhshan province."
Company Command sets up north-eastern Forward Operation Base Dragon (FOB Dragon) in the Ishkashim region of the province outside the town of Eshkashem; the north-eastern most FOB in the country.
FOB Dragon Mission set up as: "Local outreach and defense of the Wakhan Corridor where Afghanistan borders China, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. Combat Operations against JAA Forces is major center point for Deployment."
COMBAT REPORT JAA Forces ambush 2nd Platoon patrol in the valley below FOB Dragon at 1532hr. HMMWVs took fire for eight minutes before JAA retreat. One friendly WIA. 2ND PLATOON WIA SPC Alfred Williams, Age 23. SPC Williams hit in the right shoulder at 1536hr. Successful CASEVAC to Battalion Field Hospital.
COMBAT REPORT JAA Forces brought into contact in Uzai Deh, Afghanistan at 1952hr LOCAL. After Action Report states combat lasted fifteen minutes and 5 JAA Forces were confirmed KIA.
COMBAT REPORT 2ND PLATOON reports contact at 0630hr in Uzai Deh where they were reported as setting up an Operations Post for the duration of the deployment. JAA Forces ambush with small arms and heavy machine guns. Combat lasts 32 minutes. 2ND PLATOON KIA SGT Steven Sim was struck by 7.62mm round in the chest. DOW at 0652hr.
SHURA Company Commander meets with local elders of the Ishkashim and Wakhan regions and discusses the Company’s capabilities in aiding the locals. Elders seem willing to help and accept help.
COMBAT REPORT 1ST PLATOON first contact with JAA Forces in Sar Jangal at 1100hr LOCAL. Sporadic fire taken from across the Tajikistani border for over six hours. No friendly casualties. Conflict ended when Battalion Command received go-ahead to use gunships on Tajikistan-territory. Estimated 15 JAA KIA.

REPLACEMENTS ARRIVE SPC Robert Michaels and SGT Mike Durin replace the out-of-action members of 2ND PLATOON.
COMBAT REPORT JAA Forces engage 1ST Platoon in Sar-e Sang, a village 4mi from OP Sim at 0825hr LOCAL combat lasts 22 minutes. 1ST PLATOON KIA SGT Robert Cameron takes round to the head; instantaneous KIA.
COMBAT REPORT JAA Forces engage 1ST PLATOON from the river on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border at 1950hr LOCAL. Combat lasts 2 hours. Chinese gunships end combat and PLA Troops are seen at Forward Observation positions across the river. 1ST PLATOON WIA PFC Marvin Meekins is wounded during firefight, taking round in the foot. Successful CASEVAC to FOB Dragon.

Premise: We are playing as members of a US Army Ranger Platoon, part of a larger Company, conducting combat operations in Northeastern Afghanistan. In combat with Jundallah al-Afghani, we are in the middle of the hotspot that could potentially boil-over into a WW3 scenario. This roleplay will be highly mature and hold a lot of gore, fowl language, and suggestive materials. Realism is extremely high, and technorealism as well as realistic strategies and etiquette is expected (ask me or any other member for aid if you need it!).
Rules: Standard Rules, etc, blablabla. Just use polite etiquette, please.
Character Sheets: Waiting for AT LEAST two interested players for a character sheet to be made. I will possibly be playing the Platoon Leader, as well as members of Jundallah and other hostile forces as a GM Tool (however, I may surrender the PL position to a highly experienced military professional if one presents themselves).
QUOTED FROM GUNTHER: "The terrain in Northern Afghanistan is mostly mountainous terrain. Light Infantry is better suited for mountains and wooded terrain. Use your Mech and armor forces in the low open terrain. But when fighting against insurgents, you are better of going with a Light/heavy mix. This means, a Light Infantry Battalion supported by an Armor Company or Mech Company to be used as a Quick Reaction Force (QRF). The Mech and Armor can react and move to a hot spot faster than light infantry. In a Mechanized Infantry Battalion, each vehicle has one or two vehicle radios, with channel hopping capabilities. This SINGCAR radios all hop to the same radio frequencies every fraction of a second. They may have forty channels that they all change to at the same time. For someone with the proper encryption codes dialed into their SINGCARs radio, they can hear the conversation. For someone who does not have the encryption codes which are called Signals Operating Instructions or its acronym, SOI, they cannot hear a thing. You need all 40 channels to listen in. When the Platoon leader dismounts, he has a Radio Telephone Operator who carries a man portable version of the SINGCARs radio. The Platoon Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Section Sergeants and Squad Leaders all carry a Platoon Radio which is the size of your smart phone. These simple communication devices have a range of less than 1200 meters. The Man portable radio has a range of less than 8Km and the vehicle radios have a range much further.
The Army uses Communications Nets to relay information up and down the chain of command. Each Platoon has its own frequency which they operate on a dedicated radio inside their vehicles and on their squad radios. The Company has its own frequency which the CO, XO, 1SG, Supply SGT, and three platoon leaders listen in on. The Platoon Leader's track has a platoon radio and a company radio. This way, the PL can listen to Platoon chatter as well as the Company Commander. The Battalion has its own frequency which all the primary staff, the TOC, ALOC, and maneuver company commanders listen in on. So the company commander has two radios; one for the company net and one for the battalion net. The SOI changes every 24 hours.
Units speak to each other using call signs. They use a Pro Word to designate a unit and a two-digit number to denote a specific position within the unit. If a Company's pro word is Dagger, the Company Commander would be Dagger zero six or Dagger-06. The XO is Dagger 07, the 1SG is Dagger 05. Each platoon will have a proword based on the company's proword. 1st Platoon may be White Dagger, 2nd platoon is blue dagger and third platoon is red dagger. The PL would be 06, the PSG would be 05. Each squad leader or section leader would be 01, 02, 03 and 04. The FO would have a different proword and numberical designation. These numbers and prowords change every 24 hours with the change in the SOI. For an RP, you may want to stick to the same prowords and numerical designations throughout just to make it easy on yourself. admittedly, I do that.
The Platoon Leader, who may have a Forward Observer Team (Target Acquisition) with him, has three radios at this disposal. The first is the squad radios that operate on the platoon net (frequency). This is the vehicle radio or the small radio they use when dismounted. The second radio is on the Company net (Frequency). This is the vehicle radio or the man portable radio is RTO carries with him when they dismount. The third radio is the Fire Support Net which is carried by the FO's RTO. This radio operates on his a different net (frequency). The FO can turn to the Battalion mortar platoon's net (4x 120mm Mortars), but his default net is the one owned by the Fire Direction Center (FDC) at the Artillery Battery supporting the Mech Infantry Battalion. The FDC receives calls for fire from Forward Observers, platoon leaders, Company Commanders, Scouts or anyone else who authorized to be on his net. The battalion commander will prioritize the use of Field Artillery assets depending on the situation and this will be spelled out in the Operations Order. One company will be designated as the main effort. The main effort of any operation will receive priority of fires. Likewise, the Brigade Commander sets a main effort for the brigade op. If there are four maneuver battalions in the brigade, then only one of them receives priority of fires. This does not mean that a Supporting effort cannot call in fires. If the main effort is not calling in fires, the supporting effort can and the FDC will respond.
An Infantry Company can defend a Battle Position, Defend in depth, Defend a Strong point, conduct an attack or conduct dismounted patrolling. They may also be used to conduct Cavalry Scout missions like Guard, Screen and Reconnaissance and Surveillance (R&S). Those are usually decentralized execution, meaning platoons operate independently of one another."
