Hogwarts: Before the War

Hello there! Thought I'd test the waters for my first roleplay, and see if anyone would be interested in a Harry Potter inspired roleplay. The plot will be centred around a group of fifth years (Perhaps adding fourth or sixth years, not sure as of yet) living at Hogwarts during the 1950's; after Tom Riddle has graduated, but before his true reign of terror began. Rumours will begin flying about as he consolidates his power out in the wizarding world, but as of now, he's not a real threat. Our characters will be facing original antagonists in and around the school. This means I'll be taking a bit of liberty with canon lore, but I assure you I won't be doing anything as ridiculous as introducing another "Delphini".

This will be a mainly slice-of-life venture (As I've found I need to delve more into that area of writing), but I will be keeping it as fast-paced as I possibly can, just to keep the action aspects of it more alive.

I'll also be looking for a Co-GM to help out. I've never ran an RP on this site before, so if I could find someone willing to help (bounce ideas off of, maybe give some ideas on a decent character sheet, etc.) it would be appreciated. I'll likely manage by myself, but I figure it's always worth to ask for help as well to see if anyone is interested.

More details will come about if interest is garnered and I can make a thread for the roleplay; if people are interested, I'll be launching the OOC 7th of December, as that's when my schedule becomes more clear and I can dedicate enough time to the roleplay. In the meantime, I'll be releasing a character sheet for interested parties to fill out. I haven't made one yet, so if anyone has any ideas for a sheet before next week, just let me know below.

I'm interested! I don't know that much about the Hogwart's universe though- besides the general idea that I got from the movies when I watched them several years ago. Is that something that will hinder me in this roleplay? Or can I get by pretty easily still?

I think you should be alright; I don't think the 50's were covered all that much in Harry Potter lore in terms of important things happening. Either way, I'll be putting up timelines of recent important or relevant events that have occured in both the wizarding and muggle world around that time, for folks to read. I guess you'd just have to be aware of spells, creatures, etc? Even then, it would be a case of just googling it whenever it comes up in the IC, but I'd say having just watched the movies will be more than enough to join in. :)

Wonderful! I'm very okay with googling things I don't know, and am not afraid to ask questions when I don't know. I just know that sometimes people are very much strict when it comes to the Hogwarts world in their roleplays. I had one that I joined where the GM constantly would belittle me for all my writing. "They wouldn't be eating that" when it was something like a basic egg. "They wouldn't wear that" when it's MY character in their pajamas. I just don't want to feel over my head if I'm not a super duper fan- just love the idea of it all :)

Thank you. I'll keep my eye on this and am ready whenever!

Wow. I haven't been in all that many roleplays here, but that sounds like one shitty GM. I think the only thing I may be a bit strict about will be more muggle references - I don't want a muggleborn talking about his iPhone in the 1950's, but I assume people will use their common sense there. XD Glad to have you aboard, Cap'n!

Great! I think after two or three more people, I'll get to work on the OOC and the character sheet. :)

I've always wanted to lean towards a slytherin character.

Because well, the other houses get to me to death at times.

I don't think I have a preferred house over another; it's the actions of it's current members that would make one seem more or less favourable over another. Slytherin gets a bad rap thanks to Voldemort and his followers (And I guess, it's founder) but some of the greatest witches and wizards came from Slytherin house. Merlin, for one!

Oh, and if anyone is torn between putting their character in a certain house, I'll likely be allowing multiple characters. :D

True. The class of voldenort, Belatrix and others set its reputation in modern books..

Before that the last major dark wizard would be grimdalwwld.
Durmstrang, I'd imagine that slytherin of that era would still have superiority complex, still be somewhat asshole, still be arrogant. Just not straight up evil.

Durmstrang rep would be worse by far.

Pure blood bias just less violent, more disdain than warfare.

Also given 50's some other houses might carry a few traits in less dedicated and strong form as they do then in modern.

I think it'd be fun to do that um quiz of sorts (as your character) to figure out what house they'd fit into ^^

Yeah, I thought things would be more low-key back in the 50's. For the wizarding world, at least. *Glares at the racist, sexist muggles.* I planned on throwing in some racial tension here and there, depending on the antagonist.

@MissCapnCrunch
Oh, you mean the Pottermore quiz? Yeah, if people wanted to do that, then go for it! I did take that quiz and got Ravenclaw, which was cool. Eagles are pretty awesome.

Hey, we always need some badgers! Besides, the Hufflepuffs have the best common room ever. Right next to the kitchens, on the ground floor, and it's been modelled to look as cosy as a Hobbit-Hole. There's literally not a thing wrong with it.

Yup, but question, could we use our Pottermore scores?
